PENN STATE CONINUES DOMINANCE OVER OHIO STATE WITH 28-7 WIN
Press Clippings from Coach Duane's post-game presser...
On beating Ohio State for the tenth straight game …
“We’ve had some great teams and so have they. I don’t know if we are in their heads or not – that’s a question you can ask Bo Pelini or their players. We just get amped up for them and truth be told, we just seem to make the big plays when we need them. Justin Scott’s pick six was another example – it blew the game wide open.”
On the first quarter which saw PSU go up 14-0…
“We were surgical on offence. Two drives, one 11 plays for 76 yards and a touchdown, the other 13 plays for 71 yards and a touchdown. That might have been the best quarter of football we played all year long. We ate up so much clock. And we were nine for nine on third downs in the first quarter – that’s insane. It’s a true testament to the focus and preparation of our players and coaching staff.”
On CB Justin Scott’s 96 yard interception return for a touchdown with 1:42 left in the second quarter to give PSU a 21-0 lead at the half…
“Now you know why he won the Thorpe last year. Big time players make big time plays. That was the ballgame right there. They’re on our four yard line. They score and it is 14-7 heading into the locker room and given how we weren’t up by more, you know it would have given them a boost. Instead it’s 21-0 and it’s the biggest play in the ballgame.”
On QB James Madsen, who was 26 for 32 for 225 yards…
“This are the type of games we expected from James last season but the injury didn’t allow us to see that. He was awesome today. Great decision making and he had some zip on the ball. He had some chemistry going today with Terence Hairston, who I think had eight catches and Tykiem Moore, who I think had six.”
On MLB Ahmad Stanford’s seven tackle, 4 TFL, one sack performance…
“He’s maintaining the standard of excellence that we have had at the middle linebacker position over the years. A lot of people wondered how the new defence would impact his numbers this year but the last time I checked, he’s leading the country in tackles, so I’d like to think it hasn’t been a problem.”
On holding Ohio State’s offence to 10 first downs and 196 yards in total…
“It was a true team effort. Everyone contributed in one way or another. I think the big thing was that we limited their time of possession (12:42) and they just couldn’t find any rhythm. They really only got going in the fourth when we played some softer coverages. I’m telling you, I just love watching the 4-2-5 that we are running this year. If I knew it was this much fun, we would have implemented it years ago.”
