SLIPPERY WHEN WET? HAWKS AND TROJANS PLAY FUMBLEROOKSKI ON WAY TO VICTORY #6 FOR WARHAWKS
It an all too familiar down pour, ULM and Troy combined for a total of nine fumbles in a wet and sloppy football game.
The fumble-itis started early for the Warhawks. After receiving the ball on the kickoff,
Caleb Evans hit
Marcus Green on a first down pass play. When Green turned up field, he was hit by a Trojan defender and promptly lost grip on the old pigskin letting it fall onto the field and into a Trojan player's hands.
This gave Troy excellent field position. The defense would step up and force a field goal attempt. Luckily for the Warhawks, the field goal would be pushed wide left and the score stayed at 0-0. The Warhawks would get their offense moving on the next drive as
Caleb Evans hit
Brian Williams on two long passes, one of which was a 31 yard TD. 7-0 ULM. A TD that would be quickly answered by Troy on their ensuing drive as
Kaleb Barker hit
G. Hill on a 4 yard TD pass of his own.
Game tied 7-7 The Warhawks would get back on top late in the first quarter when
Ben Luckett ran the ball in from five yards out.
14-7 ULM
The second quarter would see bring the Warhawks back to fumble town as
Caleb Evans had three of his six fumbles in this quarter. Two of those fumbles were recovered by the defense. Luckily this would only result in a second quarter field goal for the Trojans. The Warhawks would add a field goal of their own to bring the half time score to
17-10 ULM
Although the
Evans' inability to hold onto the ball would continue in the third quarter, The Warhawks would take charge of the game. Evans' hit
Xavier Brown on a 10 yard TD strike and FB
Demarcus Smith ran the rock into the endzone from one yard out on fourth down after the Trojans stopped the three previous runs by Derrick Gore.
End of 3rd quarter 31-10 ULM.
In the fourth quarter, The Trojans would do their best to get back into the game. First, Troy kicker
B.Underwood would knock through a 43 yard field goal that ricocheted through the uprights after bouncing off the left upright.
31-13 ULM. The Warhawks would finally get the ball to bounce in their favor in the fourth quarter when a Troy receiver fumbled the ball. The Warhawks would however, fail to capitalize on this as the Trojans would quickly get the ball back after a three and out. The Trojans next drive would end with a
Kaleb Barker 49 yard TD pass to Deondre Douglas. 31-21 (2pt coversion) ULM. The Hawks would be able to hold onto the lead as time ticked down, even adding to it with a Craig Ford FG.
Final Score 34-21 ULM
