Re: The Alaska Warriors Reboot

Year 1 - Week 9

@ Boise State

After a brutally disappointing game last week, it would have been very easy for Alaska to lay down for Boise State. Today, however, was not the case. Alaska got up early, controlled the clock, and for the first time ever, won a game.

The MVP of the game was Jared Martinez. The receiver caught 7 balls for a school record 216 yards, including 124 in the first half. He caught two touchdowns of 65 and 53 yards respectively in the first half as well, which allowed Alaska to build a two-score lead.

The defense held strong as well, forcing two interceptions. Boise would come back however, scoring 10 straight to tie the game out of the break. Late in the game, tied 27-27, Alaska was driving but Riggs threw a pick in the red zone. This was a point where I kind of expected the wheels to come off, but the defense was able to force a quick punt and Alaska was in good field position.

One of the stories was runningback Josh Roberson, who was benched for two fumbles last week. Derrin Pierre got the start and played the majority of the game, but in the fourth quarter with two minutes remaining, Roberson broke the game's biggest run of 16 yards for a go-ahead touchdown.

Alaska would stuff Boise on third and fourth down and 1 before finally running out the clock to secure their first victory in program history.

The fans weren't able to storm the field, but we all know there will be plenty of celebration back home.

Re: The Alaska Warriors Reboot

Year 1 - Weeks 10-11

@ LSU

When you look back at this season, this game will epitomize a lot of what happened. Alaska came in a heavy underdog to a 3-6 LSU team but they played extremely tough football. Ultimately it came down to turnovers: Jeremy Riggs had a red zone pick early in the game and Jared Martinez had a fumble on an end-around. Those two turnovers took away two possessions, which is what Alaska lost the game by 56-42.

Make no mistake, this was probably Jeremy Riggs' best game passing. He went 30/41 for 406 yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. As has been the case this year, the defense couldn't get the stops it needed to win the game.

Vs. Fresno State

Alaska stayed at home for their final game of the year. Yes, Alaska only played 11 games this year. They faced Fresno State who got out to a quick 10-0 lead. Alaska played tough but trailed until 1:28 left in the third quarter. Jelani Sullivan scored Alaska's first ever pick six. The lead would change hands twice in the fourth quarter, but Alaska's defense would hold for the final 5:22 and would win their second game ever 35-30.

Re: The Alaska Warriors Reboot

Year 1 - Season Stats/Review

Stats

It wasn't an ideal season statistically from many perspectives. QB Jeremy Riggs threw an astounding 22 interceptions yet he was always the best option at the position. After RB Darrin Pierre took over for Josh Roberson, the rushing game felt much better and smoother. More consistent. Jared Martinez looked like he was beginning to break out before injuries sidelined him for the last few games. A fun note about receiver Chauncey Madison: he only had 4 catches this season for 108 yards. All 4 receptions were touchdowns.

The line wasn't terrible. The scheme was such that the quarterback got the ball out very quickly. Right tackle Tramon Little did give up 17 sacks, nearly three times the amount as the second worst lineman. This will be looked at by the coach next season and adjustments will be made.

Defensively there was a lot to be desired. Santonio Bullock was the sack leader with 6.0, and was only the second person on the team to have more than one. The team only had 15 total sacks.

Re: The Alaska Warriors Reboot

Year 1 - Playoffs, Recruiting, Housekeeping

#1 Notre Dame vs. #4 Ole Miss

A defensive showing, Ole Miss lead most of the way by two scores. A late rally got Notre Dame within two, but Ole Miss eventually prevailed 17-15

#2 Kansas State vs. #3 Miami

This game had quite the fireworks. Both teams went back and forth the entire game. Miami was able to pull off the win in the end by a final score of 37-34.

National Championship:

#4 Ole Miss vs #3 Miami

Miami dominated the majority of this game. At halftime they were up 24-7, and at the end of three quarters they were up 38-20. Ole Miss roared back and took the lead finally with 1:24 to go in the game, but Miami was resilient. They drove all the way down the field and with just five seconds left, they scored a touchdown and won the national championship.

Housekeeping

I decided to extend my playbook. Football teams often have hundreds of plays with just a few concepts which is what I wanted to do. So I have more plays but the concepts are the same, I just have many different formations.

Recruiting made me sad because the CPU gave me a 3* 76 overall quarterback with 85 speed that I didn't recruit that I had to cut. I did get a 73 overall RB transfer that I decided to take on.

This year I made sure I had 12 games. I scheduled 7 away and 5 home games. I had no coaching changes. The only HC offers Don got were lateral moves, and I decided that the OC offers he was getting weren't worth him leaving. If he gets a good job offer next year I'll let him go and create a new coach.

Sorry I took such a long break. I hope to do this more regularly but I had some RL issues come up. I really enjoy the way the game is playing and I can't wait to delve deeper into the dynasty. Last year had some wild stats. The in-game Heisman winner I didn't agree with. The guy I chose as the Heisman winner was the quarterback of SMU, Chris Bell. His stats were:

370/517 (71.6%), 5,617 yards, 61 PTD, 6 INTs. 175 Rushes for 431 yards, 10 TDs (71 total TDs).

The actual Heisman winner the game chose was DJ Marshall. His stats were:

285/414 (68.8%), 4,206 yards, 51 PTD, 10 INTs. 179 rushes, 903 yards, 9 TDs (60 total TDs). I don't know what the criteria was that they chose him, but I can't name him the Heisman knowing what Bell did. It was historically good.

I look forward to next year and what the dynasty holds. Thanks for reading and following along to all you who do. I appreciate it and would love to hear from you.
