Barkley Makes a Statement in Season Opening 32-10 Win

The Giants put the ball in 2nd overall pick RB Saquon Barkley and he delivered in tonight's 32-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Barkley had 172 rushing yards on 25 carries for 3 TDs, 33 receiving yards on 7 receptions, and 126 yards on special teams. The rookie had 231 total yards and 3 tds in his career debut.

Barkley's first score came in the first quarter with a 1 yard touchdown. He then scored twice in the 2nd quarter; the first coming on a 4 yard dive up the middle. He then showed off his speed, breaking loose on the outside to the tune of an 80 yard score.

The Giants offense very much clicked and the veteran QB Eli Manning did his job in his role as the field general. Eli completed 73% of his passes for 160 yards, while limiting his turnovers to only one interception, which was a tipped ball off the hands of wideout Sterling Shepard. Eli also controlled the clock as the Giants had the ball on offense for over 60% of the game.

Speaking of turnovers, the Giants defense gave Jags QB Blake Bortles fits, intercepting him 4 times. They also sacked the QB for a safety, which was the cherry on top, with less than 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter.

Cowboys Defense Overruns Giants as Cowboys win 27-13

The Giants offense struggled to bring much to the table today as the Cowboys defense had them at their mercy in the 27-13 loss. The Cowboys were able to force 3 turnovers, as well as 2 blocked punts.

The Giants turned the ball over twice in the endzone, one on a fumble, and another on an Eli Manning interception. Eli was also sacked on 4th down in the redzone, turning the ball over. The Giants also had 2 punts blocked, both leading to Cowboys points.

The game had a sluggish start, with neither team able to get into the endzone. In fact, the score was 6-6 with both teams converting a pair of field goals heading into halftime.

In the 3rd quarter, a blocked punt let the Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliot walk into the endzone untouched from 4 yards out. After a Giants fumble in the redzone, Cowboys QB Dak Prescott nearly avoided a safety when he was sacked on the 1 yard line. The very next play Elliot would strike again, taking a 99 yard run to the house.

The Giants would rally late with a touchdown following a pick Six, but they ran out of time, and ran out of points to keep up with "Dem Boys". The Giants fall to 1-1 on the year.

Breaking: Giants, OBJ Reach Extension

One of the main story lines for the Giants over the offseason was if they could come to terms with star WR Odell Beckham Jr. OBJ, who was vocal about wanting to extend his tenure in Giants Blue, was able to come to terms with the Giants, and accepted a 4 year, 65M extension. The contract is heavily loaded on the back end, with Odell making $12.5M in '19, $14.6M in 2020, $17.3M in 2021, and then a staggering $20.8M in 2022.

Odell has 8 receptions for 125 yards in 2 games this year. Before last years injury plagued season, Beckham had 91 and 96 catches for 1,305, 1450 yards for 12 and 13 touchdowns respectively.
