Re: Rock Chalk, Jayhawk! | Maize's Kansas Dynasty
KU Announces Beaty Fired, Will Finish Season as Head Coach Since the day of Jeff Long’s introductory press conference at the University of Kansas in July, the school’s athletic director made it clear his evaluation of the football program and fourth-year head coach David Beaty would truly begin once the season kicked off, on Sept. 1. After nine games, that assessment is now complete. “After a thorough evaluation of the program, I believe that new leadership is necessary for our football team to move forward and compete at the highest level of the Big 12 Conference,” Long stated in a KU release. “I know that Coach Beaty cares deeply about his players, and I respect that. The student-athletes on this team have continued to play hard – and I am confident they will do that for the rest of the season.” Long informed Beaty of his decision Sunday and met with the football team directly afterward. “The search for a new head coach will begin immediately,” he said. Beaty’s contract calls for him to be paid $3 million (payable in six equal payments) in the event of termination without cause; Long said Kansas will fulfill the terms of that contract. Just weeks before the coach’s most recent loss with the Jayhawks, Kansas reached its highest season win total under Beaty — three — by defeating TCU 10-7 on the road. On that Saturday, KU’s offense looked functional for the first time in conference play this season, a little more than two weeks after Beaty fired former offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Doug Meacham and placed himself in those vacated roles. Jeff Long would later take to Twitter to announce that the University's Athletic Department will start their coaching search right away. They'll be working for "an experienced Head Coach" who is excited about the prospect of building a winning program at Kansas. David Beaty will finish out the 2018 season as Head Coach. The team has three games remaining, including their rivalry game with a similarly struggling Kansas State. There are rumors that Manhattan could be starting a coaching search this offseason as well. Kansas made this decision to likely get a jump on their competition. Beaty's current overall record sits at 6-40, even though his team is enjoying their best season in his four years at the helm. Still, a three win season and an already guaranteed losing record is not enough for new Athletic Director Jeff Long. Long, due to his past experience, already seems tied to certain coaching candidates. From his time at Arkansas and in the SEC, it seems he might prefer coaches he knows have won at the Power 5 level. That potentially means the University having to spend more money on a Head Coach salary, needing to compete at a higher level. Kansas has three games remaining this season. There have been highlights and lows, but there is some hope for the future. Beaty's recruiting has brought in players that could make the team more competitive in the next few seasons. After Sunday's announcement, it won't be David Beaty leading those future Jayhawk teams. |

Re: Rock Chalk, Jayhawk! | Maize's Kansas Dynasty
Bill Snyder to Remain Head Coach at Kansas State Just this past August, Kansas State Athletic Director Gene Taylor announced a new contract extension for legendary Head Coach Bill Snyder. Snyder, who turned 79 this past October, had a new contract in place that would keep him in Manhattan until 2022. Many speculated that the new contract was really a way to negotiate who Snyder and the University would move on and find a new Head Coach. Snyder will be a part of the process, when he chooses. This season, as Kansas State struggled to 3-9, there were fans and alumni speculating that this could be his final season. Instead, the University announced that Bill Snyder will be the team's Head Coach for the 2019 season. Even with a disappointing season, Snyder will have an opportunity to rebound and also move into the top sixty in the all-time coaches wins list in college football. Over the past decade, Snyder has led K-State to 76 victories – advanced to eight-straight bowl games, won a conference championship in 2012 and finished fourth or better in the ultra-competitive Big 12 Conference seven times. The Wildcats' eight-year bowl streak is tied for 13th in the nation and third in the Big 12. Kansas State under Snyder has been a model of consistency, and that hasn't changed in his second tenure. From 2009-17, only 11 FBS programs had the same head coach but only four – K-State, Alabama, Clemson and Oklahoma State – have totaled at least six wins in all nine seasons. Even more impressive has been Snyder's continued dominance over their in-state rival, Kansas. While Kansas starts the search for their next Head Coach, Snyder moved to 10-0 against the Jayhawks since returning to Manhattan as Head Coach in 2009. Overall, Bill Snyder is 23-4 versus Kansas. Kansas State has a strangle hold on the Governor's Cup. The last time Kansas beat a Bill Snyder coached team was 2004. Their last Jayhawks' win in the series came in 2008 against Ron Prince. Snyder would take over the next season and has opened the gap between the two football programs. No one knows how long Bill Snyder will coach past 2019. There is also much speculation about his role in picking a successor. He has not been quiet in support of his son for the position: Sean Snyder, the team's Associate Head Coach and Special Teams Coordinator. In the near future, both Kansas schools will be led by new coaches. Kansas will look to reverse the Wildcats' dominance, but they'll likely have to wait until Bill Snyder is ready to move on. |

Gotta say I’m surprised Snyder didn’t retire - but without him Kansas State is nothing - looking forward to you building Kansas. Keep up the good work!

Re: Rock Chalk, Jayhawk! | Maize's Kansas Dynasty
KU Releases List of 15 'Finalists' for Coaching Job The Athletic Department for the University of Kansas released a list of 15 football coaches that are being considered for the head job. While it's not clear if all the names on the list have been contacted, Athletic Director Jeff Long said he believes the next Head Coach is 'on the list.' The list was released so the University's Board of Regents could begin vetting candidates ahead of the interview process. The University will be making a larger investment in the football program. Coming with that larger investment is added oversight to the hiring process. The only coach that has been directly tied to the position is former LSU Head Coach Les Miles. Miles, 65, was immediately rumored after Long announced the firing of David Beaty. Miles has shown interest in the position, but no formal interview has been completed. As the college football season heads into championship weekend, the process for Kansas will begin to intensify. Of the 15 coaches named, 13 are currently coaching in some capacity. Thus, with their seasons ending, the search can start to take shape. The list consists of eight current FBS Head Coaches, three former FBS Head Coaches and four lower-level Head Coaches. Those coaches were released to the media in alphabetical order: - Major Applewhite, Houston Head Coach - Bret Bielema, Former Arkansas Head Coach - Craig Bohl, Wyoming Head Coach - Neal Brown, Troy Head Coach - Jason Candle, Toledo Head Coach - Rod Carey, Northern Illinois Head Coach - Willie Fritz, Tulane Head Coach - Todd Graham, Former Arizona State Head Coach - Butch Jones, Former Tennessee Head Coach - Chris Klieman, North Dakota State Head Coach - Seth Littrell, North Texas Head Coach - Les Miles, Former LSU Head Coach - Jeff Monken, Army Head Coach - Bo Pelini, Youngstown State Head Coach - Jeff Sims, Garden City CC Head Coach Some of the names listed have direct ties to AD Jeff Long. Bret Bielema was Long's hire at Arkansas in 2013; Les Miles was on Michigan's coaching staff when Jeff Long was a Graduate Assistant in 1987; Seth Littrell played at Oklahoma when Jeff Long was the Senior Associate AD overseeing the football program in Norman. Even with those ties, it seems the search is wide open and no one knows what type of input will come from the University and its' Board of Regents. This will also be Long's first major decision as Athletic Director. Long said, following the firing of Beaty, that the next coach would have experience and would lead Kansas football to the next level. The bar has been set and it seems the field has been chosen - now comes the decision. |
