Re: 2020 Season Part 4

And another L! Up and down season, Jets keep matching my wins and losses week to week to hold onto the division lead (as of Week 14). Brady is down to 80 throw power (was 85 but dropped it after he injured his throwing shoulder) and it's really making things tough.

Did the game drop it or did you drop it?

I dropped it, my bad. Figured it would add the feeling of a lingering injury.

Don't need to apologize. Just was curious. I was gonna say I didn't think Madden was that realistic and was going to be very surprised if the game did it itself.

Re: 2020 Season Part 4

Yeah it's a shame that the only time you get ratings drops with injuries is when you return the player early, but usually it's so severe the backup is a better option. Would be a good addition in the future if the injury system was aligned more with the questionable/doubtful tags. Open the injury return earlier when a player is injured, having a player participate in practice can help the player return faster but risk a setback to lengthen the injury time.

Anyways, in my CFMs from time to time I edit players based on injuries. Often it's towards older players who have perhaps career altering injuries, having ratings drop corresponding with an injury type, while younger players are left alone.

Foxborough, NE - The Browns started off with the ball but couldn’t get much going, forced to punt it away after just six plays. New England started from their own 29, with Dye getting down to the 40 two plays later. After a short White run and Kennison catch, the Patriots faced a third and short just shy of midfield. Kennison snagged the ball in coverage and New England was setup in Browns territory. White got the ball to the 21 on a screen pass, followed by a Michel touchdown run that was called back on an illegal block penalty. Kennison converted a second and long to get the offense down to the 4. White got stuffed on first down, but Kennison finished the drive off to give the Patriots an early 7-0 lead. The Browns got a drive going on their next drive with both Chubb and Landry featured heavily. In the final seconds of the 1st Chubb tied the game up on a 4-yard power run.

Valentine made a clutch catch to keep the Patriots next drive from going three and out. Archer took a toss to the 50 a few plays later to pick up another first down. Three plays later Valentine couldn’t hold onto another third down pass and the Patriots punted it away. Clevelands next drive also died out at midfield but an excellent punt pinned New England down at the 2. White was able to run it to the 6, giving Brady much needed breathing room. Miller got it to the 16, then Montgomery hauled in a 46-yard pass lined up out wide. Larry Ogunjobi sacked Brady on a play fake and the Patriots faced a third and forever from the Cleveland 49. Valentine snuck behind the safeties and scored on a perfect throw from Brady. The Browns moved downfield quickly on two passing plays, then Njoku got down inside the redzone. Antonio Callaway scored from 9 yards out to tie the game with 45 seconds to go in the half. New England couldn’t moved the ball and the game went into the break tied 14-14.

Michel converted an early third and one to give New England a fresh set of downs at their 38. Two plays after Michel went untouched to score from 49-yards out. Down 7 early in the 2nd half, MVP candidate Baker Mayfield led a drive to midfield before having to punt it away. LeBlanc, the rookie out of X, got things going on the Patriots drive with a 13-yard run. Michel was then taken down by the face mask to move the ball to the NE 49. The Cleveland pass rush forced a Brady throw away, contained White on a run, and broke up a pass to Kennison. Going for it from the CLE 48 Valentine hug on at the 35 for the first down. New England ran a little trickeration on a play action pass to their backup OT Garcia, who was uncovered and got the ball all the way down to the 8. Leblanc powered his way to the 4, then White stuffed for a loss. Myles Garret blew threw the line and sacked Brady which forced a Ghostkowski field goal with 3:21 to go in the 3rd. The Browns couldn’t get anything going and gave it right back after a three and out.

In the final minutes of the 3rd the Patriots took over from their 30. Going uptempo they got the ball to midfield in just three plays. A couple drops stalled the drive out at the CLE 43. Up 10 Belichick decided to go for it on fourth and ten but Brady missed Kennison and New England turned it over on downs. Cleveland again got nothing going and again punted it right back to the Patriots. Brady took a short and hit Dye deep to quickly move past midfield. Robinson got grabbed on another deep shot and the ensuing pass interference penalty setup the Patriots in the redzone. Patterson got the ball to the 2 but the Browns defense was able to hold strong to force another field goal.

Down 13 the Browns got the ball back with 7:24 to play in the game. Four plays into the drive Gilmore jumped a pass for Landry for an interception. Kennison scored on the next play, but a holding penalty erased the touchdown. Miller got it to the 11 to setup a Michel rushing score two plays later. White converted a 2-point try to make it a 21-point game. Facing a must score situation the Browns went for it on a fourth down but failed at their own 27. Another pass interference committed by the Cleveland defense moved the ball to the 9. Valentine caught a touchdown pass on the next play to solidify the blowout.

The Browns next drive ended in disaster when Landry fumbled after a catch and New England scooped and scored. Signaling defeat the Browns punted after Mayfield was sacked for a huge loss on their next series. New England didn’t have to work too hard to run the clock out as back to back face mask calls converted the couple first downs needed to run it out.

Divisional @ Baltimore (11-5) W 37-28

Baltimore, MD - A good four inches of snow had accumulated prior to the kickoff. Baltimore started with the ball and Le’Veon Bell got a heavy workload on the opening drive, but towards the end went down with an upper body injury. 12-plays into the drive Michael Crabtree caught a fade pass from Jackson to cap off the drive with a touchdown. New England came out throwing to start their drive but Brady threw three straight incompletions and Pinion came out to punt it away. The Ravens moved downfield again, this time threw the air as Jackson hooked up with Crabtree and Fuller for big gains. Hayden Hurst scored from 6 yards out to extend the lead.

Michel had a huge run to open the next Patriots drive, spinning past Weddle on a 40-yard run. On the final play of the 1st Kennison got open deep over the middle and got all the way down to the BAL 2. Two plays later White ran in to cut the lead to 14-7. Baltimore once again drove down the field, this time with Gus Edwards leading the way. Crabtree grabbed his second score to extend the lead to 21-7. Valentine made a beautiful diving catch to keep New England’s next drive alive. Weddle sacked Brady to setup a third and long, but Brady was able to find Braxton Miller who had beat the safety deep for a huge 63-yard strike. Lamar Jackson was held in check on the next drive and the Patriots got the ball back with 1:38 to go in the half. After big White catch and run the Patriots nearly tied it on a deep pass to Dye that just drifted out of bounds. Two plays later Weddle sacked Brady a second time to force a punt. Baltimore wasn’t able to get into field goal range in time, but entered the break up 21-14.

Patterson got things going in the 2nd half with a 22-yard catch on the Patriots first play. Valentine capped off the drive with a touchdown from just outside the redzone to tie the game at 21-21. New England forced a punt and got the ball back midway through the 3rd. Patterson nearly made a huge grab downfield but Weddle forced it out. However, Tyus Bower hit Brady late on the play to move the ball up to the NE 35. White then made a huge run up the middle, juking the safety and getting it down to the BAL 35. Brady missed Montgomery deep to setup a third and long. White got it to the 30 and Ghostkowski knocked it in to take the lead for the first time today.

Baltimore slowly moved down the field, picking up 3 to 4 yards per play. At the end of a long drive, that started in the 3rd and finished early in the 4th, Hurst scored his second touchdown on a 5-yard toss from Jackson to retake the lead. Valentine made a huge catch on a third and long to get New England across midfield to the 45. Kennison got separation on the next third down and took it all the way down to the 3. White ran it in on the next play and the Patriots went up 31-28 with 7:08 to go. Baltimore got down to the NE 45 and opted to go with a long Tucker attempt. The kick fell short and with 5:52 left to play the Patriots took back over looking to run out some clock. Two good runs by Michel setup the Patriots just outside of the redzone. A face mask on White moved the Patriots to the 5. Facing a third and goal from the 4 Brady dropped back and tried to hit Dye on a slant. The ball bounced off his fingertips and Ghostkowski extended the lead to 6 with 2:33 to play. On a fourth down attempt Jackson was stripped sacked at his own 25, turning it over just shy of the 2-minute warning. Ghostkowski made it a two-score game after three runs were stuffed by the Ravens. Jackson led a drive down the field but without any timeouts the offense ran out of time just shy of the end zone.

Inglewood, CA - A rematch of last year’s AFC Conference Championship game, this time in sunny Los Angeles. The Patriots defense started off strong, forcing a three and out against the top-seeded Chargers. Meanwhile the Patriots quickly moved across midfield on a big White catch and run play. White made two defenders miss and got it down to the LAC 24. Valentine scored three plays later to put the first points on the board. Melvin Gordon got going on the next drive, touching it on 9 of the 14 plays. Rivers fumbled inside the 10, recovered it, but the long drive resulted in only a field goal.

Driving early in the 2nd the Patriots went for it on fourth and 3 at the LAC 46. Michel took the handoff but was dropped inches shy of the first down. Gilmore intercepted Rivers just three plays later and the Patriots started the next drive past midfield. Dye was open over the middle, moving the ball down to the 25. Bosa sacked Brady on second down to force a third and long from the 32. Ghostkowski added a field goal after a Brady’s third-down pass fell incomplete. Keenan Allen got the ball into Patriots territory quickly into the next Chargers drive, then down into the redzone a few plays later. Gordon ran it in to finish off the drive and tie the game 10-10 with 5:16 to go in the 2nd.

New England went uptempo on the next drive to get near midfield. Bosa got his second sack later to put the Patriots into a second and long situation. Brady was nearly picked off, instead a pass intended for White was tipped back to White who then broke a tackle to pick up the long first down. Montgomery added a big reception to get the ball to the 12. After the 2-minute timeout Valentine got it to the 5, the Patriots hurried up but Bosa got to Brady again to push the offense back to the 16. Kennison dropped would-be touchdown pass which sent out Ghostkowski for a field goal with 53 seconds to play. New England led at halftime 13-10.

New England’s opening drive of the 2nd half came to an end near midfield after Brady was dragged down on a third and long. The Chargers drive also stalled out at midfield and they punted it back for a touchback. One play later Michel housed it from 80-yards out to extend the lead to 10. Stephen Gilmore picked off Rivers just two play later to put the Patriots at the LAR 17. Montgomery got the ball to the 4, then Michel pounded it in to make it 27-10. Los Angeles went three and out, with the Patriots taking it back over with 3:25 to go in the 3rd. Up a couple of scores New England still went for it on fourth and inches from their own 46. White ran it up the middle for three to convert. Dye then caught a deep ball in traffic and moved it down to the 25. He stayed down, appearing to injure his collarbone. Three plays later Archer ran it in from 8 yards out to push the lead to 34-10.

Los Angeles quickly moved downfield to open the 4th until Hightower stepped in front of a pass intended for Gordon and picked off Rivers. New England punted it back after three plays. Los Angeles got to midfield and went for it on fourth and short, with Gordon being stuffed for a 2-yard loss. Michel got it across midfield, then Patterson made a huge contested catch to get it all the way down to the 12. Casey Hayward jumped a pass for Valentine for a much-needed turnover. Unfortunately Rivers couldn’t convert a fourth down pass on the next drive and gave to ball right back at their own 22. Derwin James committed a pass interference at the 11 on a third and long pass. Brady hooked up with Miller on third down to put the icing on the cake and sealed any hope of a Chargers comeback. One last effort by the Chargers ended after Rivers couldn’t hit Mike Williams deep.

Inglewood, CA - Both Isaiah Wynn and Marcus Cannon practiced in full this week and both will be active this week. The defending Super Bowl champion Rams had added home field advantage, due to the game being held in their new state-of-the-art stadium in Inglewood.

The Patriots received the opening kickoff and quickly picked up a first down with a Brady to Patterson connection. Two plays later Brady was picked off by LB Heath Novak at midfield. Todd Gurley later broke a 23-yard run to put the Rams up 7-0 early. Aaron Donald sacked Brady to setup a long third down on the next Patriots drive, leading to a three and out. The Rams drove down and Gurley scored his second touchdown of the day, this time on a 9-yard reception from Goff.

Down 14-0 in the 1st the Patriots came out for their third drive with 2:32 left in the quarter. A long strike to Valentine got the Patriots into the redzone in the final seconds. Valentine made a clutch catch on third down for a touchdown to cut the lead to 7. A three and out by the Rams gave the ball right back to the Patriots, setting them up at their own 25. Michel got the drive going on the ground, picking up 3, 3, and 6 yards on runs. White got across midfield on a short pass, then Kennison took a pass over the middle and bulldozed his way to the 1. White ran it in on the next play and with 5:20 to go in the 2nd the game was tied 14-14.

Goff ran for a key first down on the next Rams drive to get them a first down at midfield. Four plays later they were inside the redzone on a Cooks catch. Kupp later scored from 14-yards out to retake the lead with 1:03 left in the half. Los Angeles used their timeouts to get the ball back with 36 seconds to go but were unable to get in field goal range. The Rams led 21-14 at halftime.

Los Angeles started the 2nd half off with a bit of a sloppy drive, picking up a few holding penalties and quickly punting it away. Patterson made a catch deep on the first play of the Patriots drive but couldn’t get both feet down. A couple pays later Patterson did make the deep catch and got the offense down to the LAR 41. Miller got pulled down short of the first down line and Ghostkowski came out for a field goal to cut the lead to 4. Los Angeles went three and out, but a defensive penalty gave them a new set of down. However, three plays later, the Rams punted it away. Gurley injured his knee on the drive and would not return.

Dropping back from his own 25, Brady hit Patterson deep on the outside for a gain of 23. Four plays later the Patriots offense lined up to go for it on fourth and four at the LAR 42. Not only did they pick it up on a quick pass to Robinson, but a face mask moved the ball all the way down to the 21. Two plays later White took a dump off 20 yards for the score and New England led 24-21. The Rams next drive got to midfield and they also went for it on fourth down. John Kelly picked it up and the drive continued. Six plays later they were inside the 10 of the Patriots and on third and goal Kelly ran it in to retake the lead with 8:50 to go in the game.

White got the next drive going with a 20-yard gain in second down. Hurrying up to the line Brady connected with Kennison to move across midfield. A couple Michel runs later the ball was at the LAR 37. White got it down to the 26 after back to back short passes. Michel then broke free and took it in on the next play to put New England up 31-28 with 5:15 to play. Robert Woods made two huge plays on the next Rams drive, a 33-yard catch to move into Patriots territory then a 25-yard touchdown grab to put Los Angeles up 4.

A face mask on the first play of the Patriots drive quickly moved the ball across midfield to the 47. Facing a fourth and four at the 41 Brady dropped back and hit Valentine over the middle for a first down at the 2-minute warning. White got the ball to the 19 with 1:33 on the clock. A few plays later Robinson dropped a third down pass to setup a fourth and seven with 38 seconds to go. Brady hit Valentine in stride over the middle and he slipped into the end zone for the go-ahead score. The Patriots, leading 38-35, kicked it off back to the Rams, still with two timeouts to use. After hitting Kupp to get it to midfield Goff had one more chance to get in field goal range. He got it to Everett in Zuerlein’s range but Everett got tackled in bounds and time ran out. Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, two future HOF’ers, get their 6th and perhaps final ring together.
