Yea, the Bears, Lions and Vikings losing does help me out a great deal, since the back half of the schedule is extremely stacked. Matchups against the Lions and Bears in the coming weeks are very important.

Definitely love the old logos and uniforms which is one of the reasons I am doing this report.

Re: Restoring Titletown: A Packers Franchise

Packers Preview: Week Two
By Dan Witherspoon

-------------------------
After escaping with a three point victory against the Minnesota Vikings, another rival comes to town this Sunday when the Detroit Lions (0-1) travel to Lambeau Field. The Lions are coming off of a disappointing 19-17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, allowing a Greg Davis field goal with 14 seconds left.

For the Packers to win, they will have
to contain the dangerous Barry Sanders.

Despite that loss, the Lions did get good production out of quarterback Scott Mitchell and halfback Barry Sanders. Mitchell threw for 244 yards and two touchdowns while Sanders rushed for 120 yards. The Packers will have to prepare for those two and the ever dangerous Herman Moore at receiver. The Packers defense, still reeling after the loss of future hall of famer Reggie White, generated no pass rush against the Vikings last week and allowed halfback Robert Smith to go over 100 yards and three touchdowns. Their secondary also allowed Warren Moon to throw for 415 yards and two touchdowns.

Packers linebacker Fred Strickland-"Definitely going to be a test. We are talking about, in my opinion, the best in the league with Sanders. Guy's like lightning. You think you have him in the backfield and then he breaks off a 75 yard run. And if you stack eight in the box, Herman Moore will do damage. We just have to play to our assignments and avoid the mental errors."

Luckily for the Packers, their offense seems to be firing on all cylinders early. Quarterback Brett Favre was named NFL Offensive Player of the Week after throwing for 389 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for another on the ground. Detroit has some talent along the defensive line and in the linebacking corps, though there doesn't seem to be much in the secondary. Expect Favre to have another stellar game in the air, no matter who wins.

Antonio Freeman fumbles the opening kickoff.
First Half Turnovers Doom Packers
By Dan Witherspoon

-------------------------
From the opening kickoff, the Packers had no shot at winning. Call it not showing up, call it overlooking, call it what you want. The Packers were not prepared for the Lions team they faced today. Capitalizing on three first half turnovers, the Lions built up an early lead that eventually ended with a 40-13 victory.

Quarterback Brett Favre-"We just weren't prepared. We didn't execute well on anything. You are not going to win turning the ball over four times. Kudos to the Lions. They were hungrier today."

The Packers won the coin toss and elected to receive, but that ended quickly when Antonio Freeman fumbled the opening kickoff essentially giving the Lions both opening possessions. Five minutes later, the Lions would put seven on the board when quarterback Scott Mitchell found receiver Aubrey Matthews for a five yard touchdown. And it just got worse from there. Favre would toss interceptions on back to back drives and the Lions never looked back.

With the Packers focusing on stopping halfback Barry Sanders, the Lions receivers feasted upon the Packers defense. Double covering wideout Herman Moore kept him in check, but at a price. Both Aubrey Matthews and Brett Perriman went over 100 yards receiving with Perriman catching a 72 yard bomb from Mitchell on their second drive. Mitchell also hit Matthews for an 80 yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. And after Mitchell went down with a chest injury, backup Don Majkowski (the quarterback that was replaced by Favre in Green Bay) came in and held his own as well. Mitchell and Majkowski combined for 349 yards and three touchdowns. It was so bad that even containing Barry Sanders was a chore. Sanders would finish with 122 yards and a rushing touchdown.

While the Lions offense was scoring at will, the Packers offense could never get going. Quarterback Brett Favre kept having to play catchup as the Lions dropped points on the them. With Detroit able to solely focus on the pass, the defensive line harassed Favre all game compiling five sacks and the secondary picking off the gunslinger three times. The Packers lone touchdown was an 11 yard pass from Favre to wideout Mark Ingram in the fourth quarter where the quarterback had to run for his life and throw a prayer into the endzone.

At (1-1) the Packers will look to rebound as they travel next Sunday to Phoenix to take on the Cardinals (2-0).

Re: Restoring Titletown: A Packers Franchise

Tough loss to the Lions. Not much you can do with Barry Sanders posting a solid 122 yards, and giving up 4 turnovers

Re: Restoring Titletown: A Packers Franchise

Packers Preview: Week Three
By Dan Witherspoon

-------------------------
The Packers look to rebound this week after their blowout loss to the Detroit Lions when they travel west to take on the Arizona Cardinals (2-0). The Cardinals are surprisingly in first place in their division and have played some good football under head coach Buddy Ryan.

Defensive End Keith McCants (#90) has
five sacks in the first two games.

In week one, the Cardinals shocked the Lions winning the game 16-14 on a last second field goal. Then, last week, the Cardinals dismantled the Seattle Seahawks 34-16. A lot of that has to do with the success Arizona is having on defense. That line is fierce, already tallying thirteen total sacks with their sack leader, defensive end Keith McCants, already having five on the season. With that being said, the Green Bay offensive line had a letdown last week giving up five sacks though some of that had to do with how quickly Green Bay was down against Detroit. The Packers might have to keep a tight end in to block to give Favre some time this time around.

Although they are ranked 21st in the league, the Cardinals offense has not had to be spectacular. Instead, they are relying on game management. Quarterback Dave Krieg has not disappointed, completing 68% of his passes for 466 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions. Rob Moore, the leading receiver for Arizona, has played out of his mind. He has compiled 222 yards receiving (almost half of what Krieg has thrown for) and two touchdowns. The Packers secondary has struggled against the pass, but that is due to the lack of pass rush. With Reggie White gone for the year, and virtually no pass rush to be found, the secondary is being exposed having to cover receivers for so long.

Defensive Tackle Gilbert Brown-"We really haven't done the secondary any favors. We have to face it that Reggie is gone and he's not coming back this season. Time for us on the line to step up and start making some plays. Arizona is a good team. Should be a good game."
