If I Flop... The Story of Vince Rockne (NCAA 14)

Knute Rockne's biography describes him as "without a doubt" the greatest football coach of all time. Rockne was born in Norway in 1888 and was brought to the United States when he was five years old. He attended Notre Dame, where he found his love for the game of football. He was an All-American in 1913. In 1918, Rockne became the Head Coach at Notre Dame. Over the next 13 seasons he would lose just 12 games. His all-time record of 105-12-5 gives him the highest winning percentage of any coach to ever set foot on a football field. The Irish were crowned national champions three times under Knute Rockne, which is surpassed only by Frank Leahy.

Rockne's children had no interest in coaching the game of football. But his grandson, John, became a football coach. John never found the success that his grandfather did, and he even publicly admitted that he felt held back by his family name. John never made it past coaching at the high school level, but his son Vince is a rising star within the coaching profession. "He's the most determined person I've ever met," John said of his son.

Can Vince Rockne return his family name to coaching glory, or will the pressure associated with his great grandfather's success cause him to fail?

**Note - My Oklahoma State dynasty file corrupted, and I came up with the idea for this.

About Coach Rockne

Vince played quarterback at Plano Senior High School in Plano, TX where he led the Wildcats to a 22-15 record in his three years as a starter. In 2001, Rockne committed to the University of Memphis. Rockne earned the starting job his junior year and led the Tigers to a 9-3 record, including a New Orleans Bowl win over the University of North Texas. During his senior season, Rockne tore his ACL six games in to the season. Since Rockne knew he wouldn’t be able to return to finish the season he transitioned into a coaching role. After two years of work as a GA at Memphis, Rockne took his first full time position at Chattanooga as the quarterbacks coach. He spent three years there, then joined the Kent State staff for two years. In 2012, Rockne joined the Indiana staff as the quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator. In 2015 Rockne took his first offensive coordinator job at Western Kentucky. In the next two seasons the Hilltoppers averaged over 520 yards per game, and scored over 44 points per game. In 2017 Rockne returned to his alma mater to be the offensive coordinator where his offense averaged 532 yards per game and 45 points.

Coaching History:
Memphis (2005-2006) Graduate Assistant
Chattanooga (2007 - 2009) Quarterbacks
Kent State (2010 - 2011) Quarterbacks
Indiana (2012 - 2014) Quarterbacks/PGC
Western Kentucky (2015-2016) Offensive Coordinator
Memphis (2017) Offensive Coordinator
Ohio Bobcats (2018 - Present) Head Coach

Re: If I Flop... The Story of Vince Rockne (NCAA 14)

Athens, OH --- After Frank Solich announced his retirement Ohio University athletic director Jim Schaus compiled a list of successors. Applicants ranged from FCS head coaches, to FBS coordinators. After narrowing down the list, three finalists were invited back for a second interview.

After the second round of interviews the university announced that Vince Rockne had been hired from the University of Memphis. Rockne will move in to his first role as a head football coach.
