Davis Garnering Significant Interest
December 12, 2012

PORTER DAVIS AT HOFSTRA IN 2009

Porter Davis' career on the football field ended abruptly.

"We played that last game and that was it. I wasn't prepared for it. I knew it was coming but I wasn't prepared."

Porter was a star linebacker at Hofstra in 2008 and 2009. Hofstra elected to suspend their football program following the 2009 season.

Porter, and undersized linebacker, walked on at Eastern Michigan where he saw limited playing time in 2010 and 2011.

Porter finished his degree then stayed on at EMU as a graduate assistant.

"I hadn't thought too much about coaching before that." He explains. "It was basically a way to put off finding a real job."

Porter worked closely with the defense and coordinator Phil Snow, reportedly picking things up very quickly.

"He had always been like a coach on the field." Snow says. "He picked things up extremely quickly and was doing way more than I had ever seen a GA do before."

With teams looking to find the next young "genius" coach a number of schools are eager to get the 25 year old Porter on board as their next defensive coordinator.

Porter, who wasn't heavily recruited as a player, is taking it one day at a time.

"Lot's of phone calls, lot's of bouncing things off people I trust. It's been a whirlwind."

Re: Legendary - The Career of Porter Davis

djp good luck with this chise man. These have been such a nice part of my life, a place to just deposit an hour or two of my time and forget about the frustrations of the day, money issues (it costs nothing), and anything else going on. I'm sure it's that way for many of us. I'm happy to be able to follow this.

Thanks man, I appreciate the sentiment. I'm really hoping to get elbow deep in this one. You and Geezey (and a few others) inspired me to dive back into NCAA14. Seems like some of us have been at this forever.

Things are a lot different in the 'chising world and in life from when a bunch of us got started. I've got a son now and a lot less time to game in general but this is really how I like to spend the gaming time I do have. Hope you'll all enjoy the ride.

ARMY FOOTBALL
Army Interviews Porter Davis for DC Position
Coach Ellerson "Impressed"

By Karl Jackson @karlsjackson68 Jan 10, 2013, 5:05pm PST

Porter Davis has quickly become a hot name as a number of mid level schools have interviewed him for their defensive coordinator positions.

Davis most recently sat down with Army head coach Rich Ellerson.

"He's got a great mind for the game." Ellerson said after the two met.

"He's been on the field recently so he has a great perspective of what offenses are trying to do these days."

Davis starred as a middle linebacker at Hofstra in 2008 and 2009 before they eliminated their football program. He then transferred to Eastern Michigan where he was a reserve linebacker and special teams player in 2010 and 2011. He served as a graduate assistant for Eastern Michigan last season.

"Overall we came away very impressed and I would say he's definitely on our short list at this time." Ellerson elaborated.

Davis has met with U Mass, New Mexico State, Akron, UAB, Texas State, Eastern Michigan and Memphis over the past week and has indicated that he was close to making a choice.

"It's been pretty crazy these past few weeks." Davis said. "I'm just taking my time and getting a lot of good advice so I can make the best choice. It's very exciting."
