KYLE HICKS RUNS OVER KENTUCKY'S CODY QUINN AS HE SCORES A TOUCHDOWN

Whatever the Louisiana coaching staff did in the 13 days since their last game worked. The Ragin' Cajuns went from a too close for comfort win over Akron at home to absolutely undressing Kentucky on the road in a 35-0 landslide win.

"Back to the basics." Coach Porter Davis answered when asked what their strategy had been. "Put the right players in the right positions to make plays then call the right plays."

ULL sat in their press cover two that has become a signature of sorts for the bulk of the game, swarming the few times Kentucky chose to run the ball and giving senior quarterback Maxwell Smith nowhere to go with the ball in the passing game. After giving up over 400 yards and four touchdowns to Akron quarterback Kyle Pohl the Cajuns held Smith to just 7 of 13 passing for 57 yards and picked him off once. Jalen Whitlow was subbed into the game in the fourth quarter and went 3 for 3 for 48 yards against a backup, prevent defense. Sophomore cornerback Troy McCollum picked off Smith as well.

Defensive ends Dominique Tovell and Courtney Miggins each recorded a sack in the game, Tovell's was also a forced fumble when Smith coughed up the ball.

Louisiana's offense leaned heavily on the running game, rushing the ball 34 times for 242 yards and four scores. Kyle Hicks led the team with 126 yards on 16 carries and scored twice. Hicks also scored on a 20 yard pass from Brooks Haack on a wheel route. Effrem Reed ran 10 times for 75 yards. Fullback Thomas Singleton and backup quarterback Jalen Nixon each added rushing scores.

Haack threw the ball just 12 times, completing nine of them for 139 yards and a score. He did throw an interception as well but it came on the final play of the first half as the team was pressing to get into field goal range. Tight End James Moody led the team with three receptions for 52 yards.

Overall Louisiana out-gained Kentucky 381 yards to 123. Louisiana did not punt while Kentucky punted four times. ULL picked up 18 first downs including 5 of 5 on third down.

Louisiana takes on Louisiana Tech next week.

BIG BOY A.J. JEFFERSON RUMBLES FOR A TOUCHDOWN AFTER A FUMBLE RECOVERY

Louisiana was a heavy favorite coming into their road game at rival Louisiana Tech. The Cajuns left no doubt as they secured a 49-14 victory.

On the game's first offensive play Louisiana runningback Kyle Hicks ran up the middle for what appeared to be a short gain before breaking a pair of tackles and going for a 55 yard score.

The ULL offense would put up six touchdowns on the day with the defense adding one as well.

The ground game was the key once again as the Cajuns rolled up 224 yards rushing and four scores. Hicks, quarterback Brooks Haack, Torrey Pierce and Montrel Carter all scored on the ground.

Haack also connected with senior receiver Adam Savoie on a pair of scores.

Defensively the team recorded nine sacks including three by senior defensive end Dominique Tovell, who became the school's all time leader in career sacks. Linebacker Chad Polk forced a fumble on a sack and tackle A.J. Jefferson scooped it up and rumbled 12 yards for a score in the second quarter.

Jefferson's score came less than 30 seconds after Haack's second TD pass to Savoie and made the score 35-7, all but putting the game away at that point.

Haack was extremely efficient once again, completing 10 of 13 pass attempts for 157 yards and two scores, he added 10 yards rushing and a score.

Redshirt sophomore tight end Hunter Henry, who transferred to Louisiana Tech for more playing time and touches, led his team with six receptions for 62 yards and a score.

Junior quarterback Ryan Higgins played well when he wasn't being sacked, completing 18 of his 30 pass attempts for 213 yards and a score. Kenneth Dixon carried the ball just four times for 30 yards. Tevin King ran once for a five yard score and caught three passes for 38 yards.

"It's all on the offensive line and those guys behind me." Haack said after the game. "Those guys open things up so much and the play action passes become so effective that it makes things pretty easy on me."

Punter Daniel Cadona had an interesting play when he tucked the ball on a punt and ran 15 yards for what would have been a first down before fumbling the ball away after attempting to take on an La Tech defender.

"Dan's got the green light on those in certain situations." Head Coach Porter Davis said after the game. "We've got to work on the slide apparently so we'll put that in practice." He continued with a smile.

Louisiana improves to 3-0 and will host Massachusetts on October 3rd.
