Amy Adams Sells Titans For $2.2B

June 16th, 2019

NASHVILLE -- In a shocking move, Tennessee Titans' controlling owner, Amy Adams Strunk, has sold the Titans for $2.2 Billion. The ownership group, led by Arlie Spencer, finalized the deal earlier today.

Bud Adams bought the Houston Oilers in 1960 and was in control of the team
until he passed away in 2013. His daughter, Amy Adams Strunk, has been the controlling owner ever since.

This deal now breaks the American Professional sports record for the largest amount a team has sold for. The Los Angeles Dodgers sale was the previous record holder, when they sold for $2.1B in 2012.

In a press conference led by Spencer, he stated, "I've been a fan of this organization ever since they moved to Nashville. The days of 7-9, 8-8, and 9-7 records each year are long gone. The city of Nashville deserves a professional sports Championship and we're going to make that happen."

Spencer commented on the fans later in the press conference. "Everyone says this, players, coaches, owners, but this is true for us. We have the best fans in the NFL. All you had to do was witness the uniform reveal before the 2018 season to see that. Thousands showed up to a uniform reveal for a team that had made the playoffs twice since 2004. The stadium isn't packed each and every Sunday like everyone in the organization wants. But like I said, when you make the playoffs twice in about a 15 year span, that should be expected. The fans deserve more, and I guarantee you, you're going to support a winning football team from here on out."

Spencer later had this to say about current personnel and staff, "I think we have all the pieces to get to the playoffs this year. The roster is solid from top to bottom and I believe in the coaching staff. But if improvements are not made, we will make changes. This new ownership group is not going to tolerate anything but the best from this organization."

Spencer ended the Press Conference with this, "I guarantee that the Tennessee Titans will win a Super Bowl within in the next 5 years."

It will be interesting to see how the season plays out for the 2019 Titans. It will be the 2nd year for HC Mike Vrabel, so the offensive and defensive schemes will be more familiar to the players. Former #2 overall pick, Marcus Mariota, is in a make or break year at QB as his contract ends following the season. They also have additional key players with expiring contracts; like HB Derrick Henry, CB Logan Ryan, and former All-Pro RT Jack Conklin.

However, it's clear, that if the Titans don't make the playoffs, or at least come close to playoff berth, there will be a lot of changes made within the organization.

Re: #TitanUp | A Tennessee Titans Franchise (M20)

2019-2020 Season Recap

Record: 4-12

Pre-Season Recap

The Titans went 2-2 in the Pre-Season. They won their first game against the Eagles. Then lost the next two games against the Patriots and the Steelers, respectively. But, they bounced back and won their Pre-Season finale against the Chicago Bears.

In the Pre-Season, the Titans made two trades. First off, they traded WR Tajae Sharpe to the WR needy Seattle Seahawks for a 2021 3rd Round Pick. Then they traded HB Dion Lewis and their 2020 7th Round Pick to the Miami Dolphins for their 2020 4th Round Pick.

They also went out and signed quite a few players. The biggest signing, was former Tennessee Vol star, SS Eric Berry. Berry signed a 1 year deal and is looking to re-sign with the Titans this off-season.

Here is a full list of players the Titans signed during the Pre-Season:

SS Eric Berry: 86 Ovr: 1 Year, $5.75M
RG Clint Boling: 76 Ovr: 1 Year, $4.65M
LE Willie Henry: 75 Ovr: 1 Year, $2.8M
LE Vic Beasley Jr.: 74 Ovr: 1 Year, $2.65M (Moved to OLB)
CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun: 74 Ovr: 1 Year, $2.25M
RE Taco Charlton: 73 Ovr: 1 Year, $2.02M
WR Tavon Austin: 73 Ovr: 1 Year, $2.2M
HB Josh Adams: 71 Ovr: To Practice Squad
SS Josh Jones: 71 Ovr: To Practice Squad
RE Jachai Polite: 68 Ovr: To Practice Squad

Meanwhile, these Titans were cut:

WR Darius Jennings: 65 Ovr: $720K Cap Space
MLB Daren Bates: 63 Ovr: $2.05M Cap Space
CB Chris Milton: 62 Ovr: $900K Cap Space
CB Tye Smith: 61 Ovr: $2.03M Cap Space
RG Kevin Pamphile: 59 Ovr: $1.25M Cap Space
LT David Quessenberry: 58 Ovr: $0 Cap Space
HB David Fluellen: 57 Ovr: $720K Cap Space
LG Aaron Stinnie: 55 Ovr: $0 Cap Space
TE/LS Beau Brinkley: 44 Ovr: $950K Cap Space

Regular Season

The Titans got off to a rough start. They started 0-3 when they finally got their first win against the Falcons to push their record to 1-3. However, they lost three straight as they fell short against the Bills, the Andrew Luck led Broncos, and not surprisingly, the Los Angeles Chargers.

At this point, owner Arlie Spencer decided it was time to build for the future. He fired GM Jon Robinson and hired GM Danny Carmichael in his spot. Carmichael worked his way up through the ranks within the Giants organization and followed that up by signing within the Seattle Seahawks organization.

Carmichael immediately started making big trades as the Titans traded key players for Draft Picks. The trading began just before Week 7 and Carmichael traded players to playoff contenders.

The best trade Carmichael managed to make was trading CB Malcolm Butler to the Kansas City Chiefs for their 2020 1st Round Pick. They were firmly in the lead of the AFC West, but they were allowing the 3rd most passing yards in the league. This managed to get the Titans out of Butler's contract that the new management deemed as a terrible deal. So they saved about $7M while also incurring a Cap Penalty.

The next trade was a bit of a stunner. The Titans traded Derrick Henry to the surprisingly good Buffalo Bills, who held a 4-2 record heading into Week 7, for their 2020 2nd Round Pick. Frank Gore had just gotten hurt for the next 3 weeks and Henry wanted a 5 year, $38M extension from the Titans. The new management was unwilling to pay him an average of nearly $8M a year, so Henry was sent to Buffalo. Henry quickly signed a 5 year, $36.8M extension with the Bills that will keep him there through the 2024 season and the Bills followed that up with releasing Gore weeks later.

The final trade of the season came in Week 8 when the Titans traded now backup SS Kenny Vaccaro and LE Brent Urbin to the Buccaneers for their 2020 2nd Round Pick. The Bucs were also surprising the league and had a 4-2 record heading into their Week 8 matchup against Tennessee. Tampa Bay has had one of the worst secondaries for the past few years, so getting Vaccaro was an understandable move. Especially for a team so desperate to make the playoffs. Vaccaro, who's deal was expiring also, quickly signed a 3 year, $16.8M extension with the Buccaneers and looks to be their starting SS throughout the duration of the deal.

The Titans would win 3 more games throughout the rest of the season. They won their Week 13 matchup against the Colts, their Week 14 matchup against the Raiders, and their Week 17 matchup against the Texans.

Tennessee let up the 2nd most points in the league, falling just short of the Giants, who happened to land the #1 pick in the Draft thanks to their 3-13 record.

The Baltimore Ravens and the Seattle Seahawks squared off in the Super Bowl. And the Seahawks came away victorious as they defeated the Ravens by a score of 34-27.

Coaching/Front Office Changes

Tennessee's collapse prompted changes throughout the entire Front Office and the Coaching Staff.

Head Coach Mike Vrabel was fired along with all assistants. The Head Scout and the Trainer for the Titans were also fired.

Carmichael brought in Scout Tony Dubb (Level 29) on a 5 year, $1.5M deal and Trainer Ryan Glickowski (Level 28) on a 5 year, $1M deal.

Carmichael then hired Head Coach Jeffery Benn (Level 1) to a 3 year, $9M deal. Benn runs a Spead offense and a 3-4 multiple defense.

Heading into the Off-Season, the Titans still have decisions to make on QB Marcus Mariota, RT Jack Conklin, and 26 other Titans that have expiring contracts.

It's safe to say that the 2020 Titans are going to look much different than the 2019 Titans.

Re: #TitanUp | A Tennessee Titans Franchise (M20)

Tennessee Won't Re-Sign Marcus Mariota

In a somewhat predictable move, the Tennessee Titans announced that they won't re-sign QB Marcus Mariota.

Mariota, 26, threw for a career high 3,612 yards with 21 TD's and 14 INT's during his 2019 campaign. He wanted a 5 year, $119M extension with the Titans that would pay him north of $20M each season.

The Titans new ownership decided it would be best for the team if that money was spent elsewhere.

And with the Titans electing not to re-sign either Mariota or Ryan Tannehill, they will enter Free Agency without a Quarterback on their roster. That makes them a lock to Draft a QB in the 2020 NFL Draft as Mariota will be the most talented QB on the Free Agent Market this summer.

While the Titans did not re-sign either QB, they followed that up by re-signing CB Logan Ryan to a 1 year, $11.7M deal. They also re-signed SS Eric Berry to a team friendly, 2 year, $8.4M extension. RT Jack Conklin bounced back from his dreadful 2018 season and that convinced the Titans' front office to bring him back as well. Conklin signed a 4 year, $31.8M extension.

As we move forward into Free Agency here is the list of players that have Re-Signed with the Titans:

CB Logan Ryan: 84 Ovr: 1 Year, $11.7M
SS Eric Berry: 84 Ovr: 2 Years, $8.4M
RT Jack Conklin: 80 Ovr: 4 Years, $31.4M
CB Briean Boddy-Calhoun: 76 Ovr: 2 Years, $3.22M
LE Willie Henry: 76 Ovr: 3 Years, $5.16M
RG Clint Boling: 75 Ovr: 1 Year, $2.45M
RE Taco Charlton: 74 Ovr: 3 Years, $5.22M
LOLB Vic Beasley Jr.: 74 Ovr: 2 Years, $4.34M
HB Corey Grant: 74 Ovr: 2 Years, $3.18M
SS Josh Jones: 73 Ovr: 2 Years, $2.88M
DT Austin Johnson: 69 Ovr: 1 Year, $1.56M

And here is the list of players that will enter Free Agency:

QB Marcus Mariota: 80 Ovr
C Ben Jones: 77 Ovr
CB Leshaun Sims: 72 Ovr
ROLB Kamalei Correa: 71 Ovr
ROLB Reggie Gilbert: 71 Ovr
QB Ryan Tannehill: 70 Ovr
TE Mycole Pruitt: 70 Ovr
TE Anthony Firkser: 69 Ovr
K Cairo Santos: 69 Ovr
MLB Wesley Woodyard: 68 Ovr
WR Cameron Batson: 66 Ovr
WR Darius Jennings: 65 Ovr
CB Chris Milton: 64 Ovr
LT Dennis Kelly: 62 Ovr
RG Kevin Pamphile: 59 Ovr
C Hroniss Grasu: 58 Ovr
ROLB Jordan Williams: 58 Ovr

Owner Arlie Spencer and GM Danny Carmichael have already made it public they are going to be extremely aggressive this off-season in acquiring top players in Free Agency and acquiring Draft Picks to build quality depth for the team.
