LAMAR MILLER DIAGNOSED WITH DISLOCATED ELBOW

Houston - Bad news out of Houston, as it was announced that Texans leading rusher Lamar Miller will be sidelined for a month with a dislocated left elbow.

Miller injured the elbow midway through the 3rd quarter of the Texans victory over the Panthers.

After a mediocre preseason, Miller has been looking strong with a 116 yard performance against the Jaguars and 84 yards on Sunday. Devonta Freeman, who the team signed before the start of the season to provide depth to the running back room, will now become the starter for the next month.

"I told you when we signed Freeman, that we would be taking the snaps on a week to week basis, and playing off of matchups. We feel confident in who we have." Head Coach Bill O'Brien said.

Devonta Freeman is looking forward to his first start of the season next week against his former team, the Atlanta Falcons.

"I still have friends in Atlanta, but I love the guys in this room." Freeman said on Tuesday.

"Sure, I would be lying if I didn't say this is a revenge game for myself. The Falcons didn't believe in my ability anymore, and I can't wait to show them that they were wrong."

TEXANS REWARD DT DJ READER WITH 2 YEAR EXTENSION

Houston - The Texans have announced that they have re-signed DT DJ Reader to a two year deal worth 6 million dollars annually. Reader, who started 37 games in 3 years heading into this season, has 4 career sacks (2 of which came in the 2018 opener against Tom Brady).

"We feel stability is of the upmost importance, and DJ brings stability, and is growing into a leader on this team. We wanted to show him the appreciation we have for him as a player and as a person." Head Coach Bill O'Brien said.

Technically not a starter in 2019, Reader usually replaces Poona Ford on passing downs. At 6'3 347 pounds, Reader has been instrumental in the past two games by using his frame to take on the opposing teams center and guard, which has opened up space for JJ Watt, who has 5 sacks in the past two contests.

Re: Everything Is Bigger In Texas: A Houston Texans Dynasty

TEXANS SURVIVE SHOOTOUT WITH FALCONS; WIN 31-28

Houston - Thanks to a career day by TE Austin Seferian Jenkins, the Texans were able to survive a nail biting shootout with the Atlanta Falcons, winning 31-28.

The Falcons got on the board first, with a 65 yard catch and run by Julio Jones in the first quarter. Veteran CB Johnathan Joseph, a free agent after this season, had trouble containing Jones who had 7 catches and 136 yards.

After RB Devonta Freeman, calling this a revenge game, fumbled in the Texans red zone, the Texans defense forced a Falcons punt that was downed on the Falcons 8 yard line.

Needing to march 92 yards to tie the game up, it only took highlight reel play to march down the field for a TD. TE Austin Seferian Jenkins caught a Deshaun Watson pass on what would've been an ordinary 3 yard gain, however Seferian Jenkins shook De'Vondre Campbell off, and spun out of a Keanu Neal tackle, and was untouched the rest of the way for the 92 yard play.

However, Atlanta was able to march down the field on the next series and capped it off with an Austin Hooper TD, putting the Texans down 14-7.

The Texans was able to tie the game up heading into the half, with Deshaun Watson's feet on a 4 yard scramble.

Watson looked particularly good against the Falcons, throwing for 392 yards and 2 TDs, he also was able to score 2 TDs with his feet, and ended the game with 45 yards rushing.

However, Watson's only real mistake was a costly one, as Foyesade Oluokon picked off a Watson throw and rumbled 44 yards for a score, tying the score 21-21 in the 4th.

After Atlanta backup RB Qadree Ollison scored on a 23 scamper, the Texans were in a 28-24 hole with under 4 minutes left to go in the game.

The Texans marched down the field thanks to the sure hands of DeAndre Hopkins (7 catches 135 yards) and slot WR Keke Coutee (5 catches 80 yards) brought the team down into scoring position, it was Austin Seferian Jenkins who came up big in the closing moments of the game.

Watson connected with Seferian Jenkins on a crossing pattern at the 3 yard line, with De'Vondre Campbell and Ricardo Allen closing in, Seferian Jenkins stretched out and scored the touchdown.

However, Seferian Jenkins couldn't celebrate his career day, as the TE writhed on the turf grabbing his knee as teammates rushed down to celebrate.

"He is getting an MRI on Monday, however, the initial feeling is he just tweaked it. We will know more in the coming days." Head Coach Bill O'Brien said.

"I feel fine, I am looking forward to playing next Sunday." Seferian Jenkins said at his locker, his knee wrapped up.

"Huge win. ASJ is a warrior. He is a phenomenal talent." QB Deshaun Watson said.

If Seferian Jenkins can't go, Jordan Thomas will be the next man up, as the team travels to Kansas City to take on the high octane offense of the Chiefs. Having your playmaking TE in street clothes would put the Texans in a disadvantage in what is sure to be a shootout.

SEFERIAN JENKINS RULED OUT VERSUS KANSAS CITY

Houston - The good news: TE Austin Seferian Jenkins doesn't have structural damage to his right knee, and was diagnosed with a knee bruise.

The bad news: The playmaker has been ruled out for Sunday's matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Seferian Jenkins is expected back the following week against division rival Indianapolis Colts.

"He is in some pain, and his cuts weren't looking sharp, so as a precaution we decided the best course of action is to hold him out this week, and get him healthy for the Colts." Head Coach Bill O'Brien told reporters.

Preseason standout Jordan Thomas will replace Seferian Jenkins on Sunday.

"We don't epect any drop off in play. Jordan is young and hungry, and has an exciting skill set." O'Brien said.

TEXANS LOCK UP TWO MORE ON DEFENSE

Houston - The Texans continued to extend members of it's defense on Tuesday by agreeing to a 3 year, 10.9 million dollar extension with starting SS Jahleel Addae and a 2 year, 5.4 million dalloar extension with backup FS Briean Boddy-Calhoun.

"As I have said in the past, we like the guys we have on defense and we want to keep that core together for as long as possible." Head Coach and defacto GM Bill O'Brien said.

Addae, 29, came over this offseason from the San Diego Chargers where je started all 16 games last year. For his career, the 6 year veteran out of Central Michigan has 372 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 1 touchdown.

Boddy-Calhoun, 26, has spent his entire 3 year career with the Cleveland Browns. The University Of Minnesota alum signed with the Texans this past offseason, and has 138 career tackles to go with 3 interceptions, and 1 touchdown.

One defensive player that probably will not be re-signed is All Pro CB Johnathan Joseph. Joseph, a defensive captain, is starting to show his age at 35, getting beat routinely by opposing teams top receiver.

Re: Everything Is Bigger In Texas: A Houston Texans Dynasty

MAHOMES NEARLY PERFECT AS CHIEFS DEFEAT TEXANS 35-23

Kansas City - The Texans couldn't stop Patrick Mahomes, and they couldn't contain him either, as Mahomes went 31-32 for 344 yards and 4 touchdowns as the Chiefs defeated the Texans 35-23.

Despite sacking the young superstar QB 5 times, Mahomes connected with TE Travis Kelce for 2 TDS, and led WR Bruce Ellington to a career day (9 receptions 97 yards and a TD). Mahomes also connected with speedster Tyreek Hill for another TD.

On the opposite end, Deshaun Watson threw for 342 yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs.

"The weapons that Kansas City has is incredible. When you can relatively contain Hill and Watkins, they have someone like Ellington who has a career day. They have a tough team, and we look forward to possibly seeing them in the future." Head Coach Bill O'Brien said.

If they do see them in the playoffs, the Texans defensive backfield will have to play better. The defensive line and linebacker did their job as they sacked Mahomes 5 times (JJ Watt collected 2, his 4th consecutive game with at least one) and recently re-signed DT DJ Reader sacked Mahomes while also tackling Damien Williams in the end zone for a safety.

Playing without Lamar Miller, Devonta Freeman had a quiet day, rushing for only 24 yards. D'Onta Foreman had his best day as a pro, rushing for 46 yards and a score.

TE Jordan Thomas, starting in place of an injured Austin Seferian Jenkins, caught 5 passes for 63 yards.

Rookie WR Johnnie Dixon was left wide open in the 3rd Quarter, and Deshaun Watson found him for an 80 yard pass and catch.

With DeAndre Hopkins (4 catches, 68 yards) being doubled by Kendall Fuller and Tyrann Mathieu, Will Fuller was able to take advantage with a 6 catch - 78 yard - touchdown game.

Pass catching back and returner Taiwan Jones left the game with an abdominal injury and will be evualated Monday. Coach Bill O'Brien said he expects Jones to miss multiple games.

A banged up Texans offense (Lamar Miller, Seferian Jenkins, Taiwan Jones) will look to rebound against divisional rival Indianapolis Colts (4-1), who are coming off their bye week.
