Larry Legend: An Arizona Cardinals Franchise (Madden 20)

Larry Legend
An Arizona Cardinals Franchise

I'll tell you what, we are going to get Larry Fitzgerald a ring either as a player or as some version of a coach following retirement...

Arizona has never really been on my radar until this year when they hired Kliff Kingsbury, drafted Kyler Murray, and became the bottom feeder (thanks to the Niners explosion) in a very tough NFC West. This team has a ton of talent I really want to see do well, including the obvious, Larry Legend.

Staying with the same team your entire career is something I really respect. It's not easy, it's not for everyone, and it's certainly not always fun. The 2008 Cardinals were the closest Larry has ever gotten to the Lombardi and my intention is to get this class act player & struggling franchise to the Super Bowl as fast as possible.

Yes, I will definitely be keeping things realistic. However, this is Madden and I definitely want to see some oddities happening around the league. Injuries will be on, trades will be active, and we will begin with the current Week 11 rosters at the start of the season. I like to compare and contrast what goes on in the Madden world vs. real life & there's really no better way to do that than starting around this time in the season.

Kliff, Larry, Kyler...let's do this thing!

Re: Larry Legend: An Arizona Cardinals Franchise (Madden 20)

Roster Preview
September 1st, 2019

Hopeful Heisman

Glendale, AZ - The 2019 NFL Season for the Arizona Cardinals brings three things most sports fans love, but also loathe: A new season, new coach, and a new quarterback. Expectations are all over the place, overreactions are plentiful, and at the end of the day, everyone is rarely satisfied. The Cardinals published their final starting roster today as the 53-man list was put in stone. Below are the starting lineups for each respective unit:

Offensive Skill

Starting Offensive Skill
#OFFENSEPOSAGEHTWTCOLLEGE
1Kyler Murray (74)QB225'10"207Oklahoma
31David Johnson (81)HB276'1"224Northern Iowa
41Kenyan Drake (79)HB256'1"211Alabama
11Larry Fitzgerald (85)WR366'3"218Pittsburgh
13Christian Kirk (78)WR235'11"200Texas A&M
14Damiere Byrd (73)WR265'9"180South Carolina
85Charles Clay (78)TE306'3"246Tulsa
87Maxx Williams (77)TE256'3"252Minnesota

Is Kyler Murray the answer for Arizona? Things got off to quite an interesting start when first year man, Kliff Kingsburry, got to town. The Cardinals opted to send 23 year old, Josh Rosen (#10 OVR, 2018) to the Dolphins in return for Miami's second-round pick (#62) and a 2020 fifth-round selection, opening the QB1 job wide open for their first-overall selection. "The moment Kinsburry landed in Arizona and wielded the first pick, it was practically a done deal", said ESPN College Football Analyst, Kelly Medina. "The relationship of Murray to Kingsburry is not only already in place, but it's a very good one most of all". The Cardinals will look at 36 year-old Larry Fitzgerald and 27 year-old David Johnson to bail out Murray's growing pains as the 22 year-old gets his first stab at the big league.

Offensive Linemen

Starting Offensive Line
#OFFENSEPOSAGEHTWTCOLLEGE
74DJ Humphries (73)LT256'5"307Florida
67Justin Pugh (76)LG296'5"311Syracuse
53AQ Shipley (65)C336'1"307Penn State
64JR Sweezy (73)RG306'5"310North Carolina State
76Marcus Gilbert (79)RT316'6"330Florida

The big men upfront in charge of protecting Murray aren't the shiniest tools in the shed, but they've been around the block, that's for certain. Marcus Gilbert leads a veteran group of lineman who will of course see their own difficulties as the adjust to Kingsburry's offense and the pace of the fresh legged Murray. "What's important is that we maintain an open minded approach", said Offensive Line Coach, Sean Kugler. "It's vital for the lineman to be comfortable in a new system, because once that goes, it all goes down hill very quickly." The Cardinals line will potentially see some movement throughout the campaign as some building talent sits behind the veterans, including: Lamont Gaillard, Justin Murray, and Mason Cole.

Defensive Linemen

Starting Defensive Linemen
#DEFENSEPOSAGEHTWTCOLLEGE
93Clinton McConald (71)LE326'2"297Memphis
98Corey Peters (76)DT316'3335Kentucky
95Rodney Gunter (70)RE276'5"305Delaware State

The loss of Calais Campbell was obviously a massive blow for the Cardinals' defensive front, but newly hired defensive coordinator, Vance Joseph, looks to shed some light on the situation. Corey Peters will take on the Nose Tackle duty as the defense officially moves into the 3-4 following the scheme change and the unit will look to be aggressive with their rushes as Patrick Peterson leads a Man-Up approach for the secondary.

Defensive Skill

Starting Defensive Skill
#DEFENSEPOSAGEHTWTCOLLEGE
55Chandler Jones (87)LB296'5"265Syracuse
58Jordan Hicks (78)LB276'1"236Texas
43Haason Reddick (75)LB256'1"235Temple
56Terrell Suggs (84)LB376'3"265Arizona State
21Patrick Peterson (89)CB296'1"203LSU
33Byron Murphy Jr (78)CB215'11"190Washington
32Budda Baker (82)FS235'10"195Washington
35Deionte Thompson (69)SS226'1"195Alabama

There's a whole lot to like about the Cardinals secondary and it does not even have to do with the All-Pro duo of Chandler Jones and Patrick Peterson. The Cards seem to have struck a solid pipeline through Washington as the young-ins of Budda Baker and Byron Murphy Jr look to make their impact known around the league. The two will combine, alongside Peterson and Thompson, to cover the likes of George Kittle, Tyler Lockett, Emmanuel Sanders, Cooper Kupp, Brandin Cooks, and Robert Woods in a talent NFC West.

Re: Larry Legend: An Arizona Cardinals Franchise (Madden 20)

AFC Preview
September 2nd, 2019

Brady favored for seventh ring

ESPN.com - From an unexpected retirement by Andrew Luck, blacklisting of Antonio Brown, and Tom Brady still drinking GOAT milk, the AFC has seen a few surprising and not so surprising events occur over the offseason.

AFC Favorites

AFC Favorites (10+ Wins)
RKTeamProjectionTeam Ratings
1 New England Patriots14-286 OVR - 85 OFF - 88 DEF
2 Kansas City Chiefs13-383 OVR - 87 OFF - 80 DEF
3 Pittsburgh Steelers11-584 OVR - 84 OFF - 84 DEF
4 Baltimore Ravens10-684 OVR - 84 OFF - 85 DEF
5 Los Angeles Chargers10-680 OVR - 80 OFF - 81 DEF

The obvious is obvious, which of course, is that Tom Brady, Coach Belichick, and the New England Patriots will be the likely winners of the AFC East and Conference, outright. Not only is the team once again commanded behind the likes of GOAT Tom, but the defense holds Stephon Gilmore, Devin McCourty, and Jason McCourty patrolling the not-so-friendly skies in Foxborough. That will be put to the test when reigning NFL MVP, Patrick Mahomes comes to town, but with a clear difference in defensive talent, the likelihood of the Chiefs beating New England isn't quite there. Can the Chiefs beat basically everyone else in the AFC? Well, Mahomes will have Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, LeSean McCoy, and Sammy Watkins..so, absolutely. Speaking of beating basically everyone else, the Steelers, Ravens, and Chargers will do just that, except on one another and the aforementioned teams. The three have a ton of question marks, but for the most part they are pretty intact when it comes to talent. The biggest question mark really comes down to Los Angeles Chargers where Phillip Rivers' window of opportunity gets smaller by the year. The 37 year old, eight time Pro Bowl QB, is up for a contract renewal and there's not necessarily a guarantee of it getting filled. The Chargers have been one of the most talented units across the league the last few years and have absolutely nothing to show for it. The time for Rivers is now.

AFC Contenders

The Contenders (7+ Wins)
RK TeamProjectionTeam Ratings
6 Houston Texans9-781 OVR - 81 OFF - 81 DEF
7 Buffalo Bills9-780 OVR - 79 OFF - 83 DEF
8 Oakland Raiders8-880 OVR - 84 OFF - 76 DEF
9 Indianapolis Colts8-883 OVR - 87 OFF - 79 DEF
10 Cleveland Browns7-982 OVR - 83 OFF - 81 DEF
11 Jacksonville Jaguars7-981 OVR - 80 OFF - 83 DEF

Contending in the AFC is going to be a dogfight. Without a clear separation in talent, all six squads listed above have a realistic opportunity to win their division (AFC South) or clinch a Wild Card bid. Deshaun Watson is officially the most talented QB in this pack following the retirement of Andrew Luck in Indy. That of course is made a millions times better as Houston will feature DeAndre Hopkins. Defensively, all six teams have either long-term talent in place, like JJ Watt in Houston and Calais Campbell in Jacksonville, or some very fun up-and-coming names like Myles Garrett in Cleveland, Micah Hyde in Buffalo, and Darius Leonard in Indianapolis. Quarterbacks like Derek Carr and Nick Foles will try and turn the corner this season and take their squads to the next level, whilst Baker Mayfield, Jacoby Brissett, and Josh Allen still try and secure their seat at the table.

Boy have things changed for Tennessee over the last few years... The once rebuilding and promising team behind Mariota has now been handed over to NFL one team journeyman, Ryan Tannehill. That seems to be the story for most of the squads above as there's a lot of talent that has the unfortunate potential to flame out. LeVeon Bell, AJ Green, Von Miller, Chris Harris Jr, and Geno Atkins are just a few of the names in this mix that may go from veterans to one-to-two year contract guys by the time the rest of the talent catches up. Big questions: Will Tennessee go Tannehill or draft? Will Miami go Rosen or draft? What the heck is Cincy going to do with the Red Rocket? QB needs to be the first area addressed for every single one of these franchises, possibly even New York.
