Big Win in Rahne's Opener

Atlanta, GA --- Coach Ricky Rahne's tenure at Ole Miss got off to a great start with a big win on Saturday. The Rebels held off Boise State's late comeback attempt to seal a victory. The team played pretty well for most of the game, and QB Grant Tisdale showed he is a star in the making. "I'm proud of every one of these guys. They worked so hard since last spring. These guys were 1-11 last year. This win shows they believe in themselves and that we are building something great here at Ole Miss," Rahne said after the game.

Game Recap
Ole Miss received the opening kickoff to start the game. The first play of the Rahne offensive era started with a 22 yard run from Grant Tisdale. The Rebels would drive 63 yards in 7 plays, settling for a 29 yard field goal to open the scoring. Boise State answered immediately with an 8 play, 72 yard drive that was led by the rushing attack. Holani punched in a 2 yard run to give Boise State the lead. Ole Miss answered on the first play of the next drive when Grant Tisdale connected with Jadon Jackson on an 84 yard touchdown pass. The Broncos would punt after 4 plays on their next drive.

The Rebels would start the second quarter by capping off a 10 play drive with a 6 yard touchdown run by Brandon Campbell to take a 17-7 lead. Boise State would answer with a 10 play drive of their own where Shakir had 67 receiving yards. Holani would punch it in from 1 yard out. On the following drive the Rebels would move the ball in to opponent territory but were forced to punt after a sack. On the ensuing drive, Boise State would fumble on the 5th play, setting up a short field for Ole Miss. The Rebels capitalized just 3 plays later as Tisdale connected with Miles Battle on a 15 yard pass. The Rebels would take their 24-14 lead in to the locker room at half.

Boise State received the kick to open the second half and drove down the field, settling for a 36 yard field goal to make it a one score game. The Rebels would go 3 and out on the next possession. The Broncos ground attack led them down the field as Holani rushed for 38 yards and another touchdown. With momentum swinging the other way, Ole Miss needed to answer.

The Rebels would score on the first play of the 4th quarter to cap off an 8 play, 80 yard drive when Tisdale connected with Jackson again on a 9 yard throw. The Broncos would go 3 and out, and with good field position the Rebels were in position to put the game away, but Tisdale threw an interception on 3rd down. Just 3 plays later Bachmeier threw an interception that Deantre Prince would return 51 yards for a touchdown to give Ole Miss a 38-24 lead. Boise State would score on an 11 play drive in the following possession to make it 38-31, but they were unable to make a stop and the Rebels ran out the clock.

Enjoyed the highlight reel when the Broncos scored, not so much the rest of the time.

Tennessee Hate Week (Week 2)
The Rebels home opener is on Saturday against Tennessee. The Vols have a talented roster, but a new coaching staff came in this year with head coach Tony Elliott. The Volunteers also had extra time to prepare as they did not have a week one game. Ole Miss will need to protect the football and establish the run game early if they want to have any shot at winning.

In the words of Mrs. Leigh Anne Touey....

Great start to the season with the win over Boise State. I have always had a soft spot for the Rebels.

I have this news banner for them that you are welcome to use if you so choose:

Rebels Fall in Home Opener

Oxford, MS --- The Ole Miss Rebels lost their conference opener to rival Tennessee on Saturday. The Rebels turned the ball over 3 times on the day, proving to be the deciding factor. The game was a tale of two halves, really, with Ole Miss the better team for most of the first, and Tennessee the better team for the second half.

Tennessee received the kick to open the game and moved the ball 36 yards before throwing an interception. Free safety AJ Finley got beat over the top but recovered well to intercept the deep pass. The Rebels responded with a 12 play, 75 yard drive to take a 7-0 lead. Tennessee drove right down the field but had to settle for a field goal on the Ole Miss 5 yard line. Ole Miss moved the ball into Tennessee territory on the ensuing drive but was forced to punt. The Vols responded with a 91 yard drive to take a 10-7 lead just after the first quarter ended.

On the next Rebels drive Grant Tisdale would overthrow a receiver for the first turnover of the game. The defense held strong and forced a 3 and out, but Tisdale threw another interception on the next drive. Tennessee would capitalize this time on a 51 yard drive, taking a 17-7 lead. Ole Miss would respond with a 7 play, 73 yard drive capped off by a 2 yard touchdown pass by Tisdale. The sides would trade punts to end the half at 17-14.

The Rebels would go 3 and out to open the second half. Tennessee would move the ball on their opening drive and then hit a 55 yard field goal to take the lead to 20-14. Tisdale would lead a 12 play, 71 yard drive to respond and give Ole Miss a 21-20 lead. However, Tennessee would throw a 78 yard touchdown on the first play of their next drive to reclaim the lead at 26-21. After forcing another punt, Tennessee drove 54 yards in 5 plays to take a 33-21 lead.

The next four possessions would result in punts, and with 2:38 left to play the Rebels would score on a 1 yard scramble by Grant Tisdale to make it 33-28. Tennessee was able to get 2 first downs and run out the clock, securing the victory.

Players of the Game
Offense - Ole Miss: Grant Tisdale - 21/38, 315 Yds, 8 Car, 27 Yds, 3 TDs, 3 INTs.
Tennessee: Kasim Hill - 27/38, 323 Yds, 3 TDs, 11 Car, 112 Yds, 2 INTs

Defense - Ole Miss: Jacob Bryant - 8 TKLs, 3 TFL, 2 Sacks
Tennessee: Bryce Thompson - 2 TKLs, 2 INTs

Couple of slugfests in those first couple games! I guess the defensive woes traveled down south with you. Offensively, though, you're giving Lane Kiffin a good run for his money. Hotty Toddy!
