Re: Hounds Sterling - The UK's First Franchise (M21)

The Best of the Worst
Rising to 4-5 after a win at home, the Bulldogs lead the NFC East.

For the second week straight, the London Bulldogs hosted a visiting team in a day-long torrential downpour. But where last week's contest against the Rams ended in bitter defeat, this week's low-scoring rainy battle with the Dallas Cowboys ended in a victory that places the Bulldogs in the lead position of the NFC East.

Dak Prescott opened the game by throwing an easy pick to LDN CB Jason McCourty
Younghoe Koo was the only player to score any points in the first quarter, as both teams had difficulty finding their footing offensively early on. The Bulldogs took the opening kickoff and quickly went three-and-out after finding no traction running or passing, but the Cowboys proved even weaker. While attempting to turn the strong defensive start into early points, Dak Prescott threw a messy, mishandled pass that was pulled out of the air by Bulldogs CB Jason McCourty. The turnover gave the Bulldogs excellent field position and almost resulted in a touchdown, but Kelvin Sanders was sacked before he could find a wide-open Steven Sims for a touchdown. Instead, Younghoe Koo kicked a 54-yard field goal and the Bulldogs took a narrow lead.

The second quarter belonged firmly to the Bulldogs, who opened the quarter by denying the Cowboys an attempted fourth-down conversion. Taking over on downs, Kelvin Sanders executed a perfect rollout and lofted an easy pass to WR Terry McLaurin on a slant route. McLaurin beat his coverage handily and ran the rest of the way for a 31-yard touchdown, giving the Bulldogs a commanding 10-0 lead at halftime.

Dak Prescott fumbles while being sacked by Matt Ioannidis.
Dallas gave up the ball on the fist drive of the second half with a fumble, but Younghoe Koo missed a 51-yard field goal and gave the Cowboys another shot at closing the gap. Finally, they got on the board with a field goal of their own, which Koo matched near the end of the quarter from 53 yards out.

In the fourth quarter, things seemed to click for the Cowboys. A short rushing touchdown brought the Cowboys to within three points, and when Younghoe Koo missed his second long field goal in the rain, it looked like the Cowboys would have enough time to engineer a go-ahead drive in the closing minutes of the game. They had multiple opportunities to take the lead over London, but turnovers ultimately sealed their fate. A fumble by Blake Jarwin ruined a crucial third-down conversion, but even then the Cowboys stopped London from converting a fourth down to run out the clock. They did their best to run a three-minute offense and get into scoring range, but the game was sealed when Matt Ioannidis powered his way through the offensive line and strip-sacked Prescott, leading to the London recovery that secured the win.

With the victory, the Bulldogs become the new leaders of the NFC East in spite of their unimpressive 4-5 record. The Bulldogs played to their preferred rhythm, able to utilize Aaron Jones and Junior Boley to pound out yards on the ground while allowing Kelvin Sanders to play a safe passing game. They will have a week off as they take their bye in week 10, before returning to action in week 11 facing the Eagles in Philadelphia as they try to maintain their lead in the division.

Re: Hounds Sterling - The UK's First Franchise (M21)

Hanging On to the Lead
The London Bulldogs broke a three-way tie and held on to the lead position in the NFC East after a narrow win in Philadelphia.

Although they entered their week 10 bye with a record of just 4-5, the Bulldogs entered week 11 at the head of the NFC East, edging out over the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles, all of whom held the same 4-5 record. Hot off the heels of a division win against Dallas at home in England, the Bulldogs held on through an explosive fourth quarter to maintain a slim lead and escape Philadelphia with the NFC East title still in sight.

HB Aaron Jones scores on a touchdown pass from Kelvin Sanders in the first quarter.
The Bulldogs started the game off by allowing Kelvin Sanders some room to move on the opening several possessions. In spite of facing pressure from the Eagles' star-studded defensive front, Sanders executed well on his first few possessions and scored the only points of the quarter when he expertly placed a pass over the middle into the hands of Aaron Jones, who ran out of the backfield caught the ball in traffic for an early touchdown.

After this initial success, however, the Eagles defense battened down the hatches and absolutely stifled the Bulldogs through the remainder of the first half. The Bulldogs went 3-and-out on most of the rest of their possessions through the half, and were unable to score any points. The Eagles likewise struggled against London's aggressive defensive line, and while Carson Wentz was able to get his team downfield into scoring situations, the offense could never break through London's defense for a touchdown. Instead, Jake Elliott kicked three second-quarter field goals from 37, 46, and 28 yards, nickel-and-diming his team to a 9-7 halftime lead.

Carson Wentz is sacked in the third quarter.
The beginning of the second half continued the defensive back-and-forth of the first half. The Eagles seemed to have an answer for any play the Bulldogs drew up, containing Aaron Jones at the line of scrimmage and pressuring Kelvin Sanders into making bad throws and ineffective checkdowns. The Bulldogs likely held the Eagles outside of scoring position with a "bend but don't break" style of defense that only allowed the Eagles one chance to score -- a field goal which Jake Elliot hooked to the left. Only in the final two minutes of the third quarter did either team manage any points, with Younghoe Koo landing a 35-yard field goal to put his team ahead 10-9. the game had been slow scoring through three quarters, but was about to quickly take off in the final quarter of play.

The Eagles found their way to the goal line early in the fourth quarter, and FB Alex Armah Jr drilled a power run into the endzone for a 15-10 lead. Hoping to move ahead a full touchdown, Doug Pederson called for a two-point conversion. The designed pass looked to be perfectly covered, but Carson Wentz took matters into his own hand and scrambled into the endzone to successfully convert, giving the Eagles a 7-10 lead.

From there, London struggled to strike back and even the game out. Over the course of a six-minute drive, they slowly weaved their way downfield with careful and cautious play-calling until they finally reached the red zone, where Aaron Jones was able to take a shotdgun draw run in for the tying score just inside of three minutes. When the Eagles were quickly shut down and forced to punt on a three-and-out, the Bulldogs found themselves with two minutes to engineer a game-winning drive to avoid going to overtime.

On third and long, Kelvin Sanders managed to roll out to his right and throw across his body, catching TE Logan Thomas deep downfield for a 38-yard gain. The rest of the drive failed to find much success, but it was enough to get into range for Younghoe Koo to attempt a buzzer-beating 48-yard field goal as time expired. Koo, who had signed a 7-year contract extension with the Bulldogs prior to this week's game, kept his cool after being iced and split the uprights, ending the game in regulation and putting the Bulldogs on a two-game winning streak.

Now with back-to-back divisional wins, the Bulldogs continue to hold on to their top stop in the NFC East. While their game hasn't always been pretty, it does seem that they are finally beginning to understand the kind of football they want to play and how to execute their gameplans to get it done. In a division that seems devoid of any powerhouse teams, London has a strong chance of making a playoff appearance as the division champs.

But while their success the past two weeks has raised their spirits, the Bulldogs will have a challenging road game on their hands next week. Week 12 will see them traveling south to Tampa Bay and taking on the 7-3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, led by the NFL's leader in passing touchdowns and #3 in passing yards, Tom Brady.

Re: Hounds Sterling - The UK's First Franchise (M21)

Brady Dominates the Bulldogs
In a contest between an unproven rookie and a legend of the game, Tom Terrific seized the day at home in Tampa Bay.

The London Bulldogs may have taken the top position in the NFC East, but at 5-5 in a struggling division, they were not expected to do much against Tom Brady and the rising Buccaneers, who came into the home contest at 7-3. Tom Brady showed off for four quarters, completing 82% of his passes and throwing for 308 yards and four touchdowns on a way to the team's easiest win of the season.

TB TE O.J. Howard scores a touchdown on a 10-yard pass from Tom Brady.
As soon as the whistle blew, the Buccaneers were off running. In spite of a sack putting Tampa Bay at a difficult 3rd and 17 on the game's first drive, Tom Brady proved flawless on the drive, completing 5 of 5 passes while marching his team from the 25 down inside the redzone. Ultimately, he connected with TE O.J Howard in the back of the endzone for a score, and the Buccaneer train was rolling.

Throughout the first half, the Bulldogs could find no opportunities against the Buccaneers. Aaron Jones was denied any big plays, finishing the day with just 36 rushing yards, his worst performance of the year so far. Kelvin Sanders fumbled while being sacked on an attempted wide receiver screen, and Vita Vea turned the drop into a touchdown. By halftime, the Buccaneers were cruising ahead with a 28-0 lead, and things seemed essentially hopeless for the Bulldogs.

When the Bulldogs took the opening kickoff to begin the second half, things didn't look much better. The offense managed to get into the redzone, but three straight rushing attempts by Aaron Jones were stopped for no gain. In an act of desperation, Ron Rivera called a fake field goal, resulting in the team's only touchdown of the game. Younghoe Koo ran out to his right and took an over-the-shoulder pitch, lobbing a touchdown pass to his wide open Tight End Logan Thomas. Throwing 1-1 for 4 yards and a touchdown, the Bulldogs' Korean-American Kicker ended the game with a higher passer rating than their starting Quarterback.

After that lone flicker of light, the rest of the game returned to a full-on rout by the Buccaneers. The Bulldogs would never even sniff the redzone again, and after Tom Brady put up his fourth touchdown for the day, HB Ronald Jones II finished the game with an 85-yard touchdown run, putting himself over 200 yards on the day, and pushing Tampa Bay to over 550 yards of total offense against the hapless Bulldogs.

The loss to Tampa Bay means that the Bulldogs will fall back down to 5-6, and have lost the lead in the NFC East to the now 6-5 Cowboys. Next week will bring a divisional rematch against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 13, which is a must-win game for the Bulldogs as they attempt to hold on to their only opportunity for a playoff appearance.

Re: Hounds Sterling - The UK's First Franchise (M21)

Philly Evens the Score
After a narrow defeat earlier in the season, the Philadelphia Eagles edged out a win over the London Bulldogs to go 1-1 with their division rival for the year.

With the London Bulldogs sitting at #2 in the NFC East and the Philadelphia Eagles desperately trying to get back into the mix, Sunday's game in rainy London carried a great deal of weight for both teams. The Bulldogs managed a win in the teams' first meeting of the year, but the Eagles managed to get their revenge and even out the series of the year.

LDN WR Terry McLaurin catches the Bulldogs' only touchdown pass of the day.
The game, like many of the Bulldogs' home outings, took place in the driving rain -- weather conditions that marked the game significantly. The Bulldogs got into scoring position on their opening drive, but wet grass led to Younghoe Koo losing his footing and missing a field goal attempt that could have given his team an early lead. The Eagles, however, were unable to make anything out of the missed attempt. London's defense brought its signature pressure at Carson Wentz, rushing several of his passes and shutting down any drive that started to gain steam.

Both teams traded scoreless possessions through the first quarter, with no meaningful threat of points until the Bulldogs got to the 4 yardline in the early second quarter. After they were stopped repeatedly, Ron Rivera tried to repeat his fourth-down trickery with a fake field goal, but this one failed as an attempted outside run by Younghoe Koo was sniffed out and quickly squashed. The Eagles finally drew first blood off of this failed drive, going 92 yards on a drive that ate up most of the rest of the quarter and ending with a pass to Zach Ertz, who would break 109 receiving yards on the day with 10 receptions. The Bulldogs almost tied the game at halftime -- Terry McLaurin took a slant pass over top of a blitz and ran 58 yards for a score -- but Younghoe Koo missed his second kick of the day on the extra point, allowing the Eagles to lead 10-6 at halftime.

Kelvin Sanders struggled in the second half as he tried to catch his team up from a two-possession deficit.
The game remained a 7-6 deadlock throughout much of the third quarter, until Jake Elliott booted a 39-yard field goal to stretch the lead to 10-6. The game was still a one-score contest, but the game began to slip away from London on the next possession. While the Bulldogs were driving downfield to try to answer the field goal, Kelvin Sanders threw an interception on 3rd and 4 that allowed the Eagles to start a fresh drive at the London 18 yardline. The Eagles took the ball all the way to the goal line for a short touchdown run, which gave them the last of their 17 points for the day.

Down by two scores, Kelvin Sanders spent the fourth quarter attempting to run a pass-heavy offense to push his team into the endzone in time to have a chance to bring the game back under control. But the Bulldogs have struggled this season when forced to run a one-dimensional offense, and this week proved no different. Sanders' completion rate dropped, and he ended the game at just 18-31 for 221 yards, unable to get his Bulldogs back into the game.

Losing to the Eagles means that the Bulldogs will drop down to 5-7, and the NFC East title is just a little further away thanks to the Cowboys' upset victory over Tampa Bay this week. Next week, as the season begins to wind down to a close, the Bulldogs will face the Las Vegas Raiders, who are also struggling with a 5-7 season of their own. If they can manage a win over Derek Carr and his squad, the Bulldogs can keep themselves in playoff contention. If they lose, the division might finally fall out of reach for good.

Re: Hounds Sterling - The UK's First Franchise (M21)

Bulldogs Outlast Raiders on Dual-Threat Rushing Attack
With a powerhouse rushing attack, the Bulldogs downed the Las Vegas Raiders to stay in the playoff race.

When the Bulldogs lost to the Eagles last week while the Cowboys picked up a win over the Buccaneers, London fell a critical step back in the competition for the NFC East. But when the Cowboys lost to the Chiefs on Thursday Night Football, the Bulldogs had an opportunity to get back in it -- and they seized the opportunity on top of an incredible rushing performance.

Rookie FB Junior Foley came alongside HB Aaron Jones to combine for over 200 yards rushing.
After forcing the Raiders to go 3 and out on the opening drive, the Bulldogs were quickly backed up into their own endzone after a screen was blown up by the Raider defense, leaving London to play 3rd and 18 from their own 2. But Kelvin Sanders, who was called on to throw the ball just 18 times for the whole day, connected with receiver Trey Quinn to get his team back to midfield, allowing the Bulldogs to regain their offensive rhythm. They moved down the field slowly but consistently, and with a drive that lasted nearly the entirety of the first quarter, took the first points of the game after rookie FB Junior Boley muscled across the goal line for a two yard run.

The steady, powerful rushing attack of the Bulldogs would be the main theme throughout the early game. Aaron Jones and Junior Boley traded carries, with Jones picking up the team's second touchdown on a short run in the second quarter. Derek Carr put his team on the board with a single touchdown, but the Bulldogs marched down the field with Jones and Boley to keep the clock moving, and held onto a 17-7 halftime lead after ending the half with a 41-yard kick by Younghoe Koo.

The Bulldogs defense pressured Derek Carr heavily in Las Vegas.
With the lead securely in hand to start the second half, the Bulldogs added to their lead with a second rushing touchdown by Aaron Jones, answering a Graham Gano field goal to put the Bulldogs up by a comfortable 14 points as the fourth quarter began.

The Raiders seemed like they were defeated -- Graham Gano kicked a second field goal early in the fourth quarter, but the offense was generally listless and ineffective against the stout London defensive line. But in the final two minutes of the game, Las Vegas suddenly sprang to life.

Derek Carr, who had had a difficult day producing in spite of putting up impressive yardage, hit Henry Ruggs III for a 34-yard touchdown with just 1:31 remaining in the game, pulling his Raiders back within one touchdown of the game. It seemed that the Bulldogs had the better of the game, getting possession with under two minutes left; however, Junior Boley coughed up a fumble on his first run of the drive, giving the Raiders the ball again quickly. Carr found Ruggs for another score, and suddenly, with 57 seconds left to play, the game was tied at 27-27 with overtime looming.

The Bulldogs had not had much success passing throughout the day, but Kelvin Sanders managed to dump the ball out in a screen under heavy pressure to Aaron Jones, and Jones carried the ball downfield to get his team back into scoring range. Younghoe Koo, whose missed kicks had a detrimental effect on the team last week, nailed a buzzer-beating field goal form 41 yards out to secure the win as time expired, preventing OT and bringing the Bulldogs back from the brink of an upset.

In securing their win, the Bulldogs showed off what has proven to be their strength this season -- run-heavy, rhythm-based offense. Aaron Jones and Junior Boley both surpassed 100 yards rushing for the day, and the two accounted for all of the team's offensive touchdowns. The two moved the ball consistently, allowing Kelvin Sanders to play a controlled and conservative passing game based off of short timing routes and play-action fakes. The Bulldogs executed that gameplan to perfection, and the result was a win to keep them in the divisional hunt.

With the Bulldogs' victory over the Raiders advancing them to 6-7 and the Cowboys' loss to the Chiefs dropping them to 7-6, the NFC East remains in contention with just 3 regular season games left to play. The Bulldogs have the Saints, Falcons, and Giants left on their schedule as they attempt to wrest the division from the Cowboys, whose remaining opponents include the Cardinals, Giants, and Chargers.

How are you sitting in the Playoff Race at 5-7?

He sits at 6-7, just a game behind Dallas with 3 to play. Im assuming its about winning the division or nothing for London, 3 wins and he has a shot...8-8 may be a push.

Good luck Bulldogs

Yep, it's the division win or bust. Thankfully, the NFC East is just that bad haha.
