I could see you pulling out a couple wins with this team. It really depends on Ellerbe holding up. The defense might struggle.

Thanks! Elle Rhee is definitely going to be key!

Yeah, we still have some weaknesses, but I think less than in recent years. I think this is the best team we’ve fielded across the board, though. With Ellerbee and our offensive line, I have some hope that we can put together a surprisingly good season. We shall see!

Yeah, the defense is definitely a bit worrying. We also don’t have much depth there. Losing Ridgeway at safety hurts!

Hopefully the offensive line can hold up and give your guys a chance to stay in most games. Looks like if anything goes well this season, it's going to start and end with Ellerbee

Was gonna echo the same thoughts as everyone else basically, the team is *slowly* improving and if the injury bug will just stay far away then maybe you could push for 4 wins this season. Definitely going to come down to your quarterback play as Ellerbee is your only real stud, but if this season is bad again then that makes me terrified for the following year when the QB regression hits.

Yep, Ellerbee and the passing game will be key. And the offensive line will need to hold up. Fortunately, we have some solid talent along the line now, which will help us a lot.

Yeah, I’m worried about next season. We need to go for broke next season as my two backups are walk-ons and we may be in trouble with them at the helm next season. They’re only saving trace is their mobility, but they’re terrible passers.

Boston College Opens Up 2009 Season With 42-10 Victory at Yale

NEW HAVEN, CT - Quarterback Daniel Mason passed for 216 yards and four touchdowns and added another 56 yards rushing to lead Boston College (1-0) to a season-opening 42-10 blowout win over Yale (0-1) this afternoon.

Running back Jesse Williamson added 126 yards rushing and two touchdowns for the Eagles. Brian Mitchell caught four passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns, and Matt Allen added three receptions for 48 yards and two scores.

The Eagles took advantage of two first quarter Yale fumbles to take a 14-0 lead after the first quarter, and were ahead 28-0 late in the second quarter before Yale finally got on the board in the closing seconds to cut the Eagles' lead to 28-7 at halftime.

However, Boston College maintained control after the half, scoring on the opening possession of the third quarter, and shut down Yale to win 42-10.

Nate Ellerbee still posted a nice stat line for Yale, throwing for 248 yards and a touchdown. His 21 completions went to seven different receivers. Matt Hughes hauled in Ellerbee's touchdown pass, and caught four passes for 63 yards. The Bulldogs also got decent production out of the running game, where sophomore running back Robbie Payne rushed for 82 yards on 19 carries, or 4.3 yards a clip.

Unfortunately for Yale, three lost fumbles ultimately doomed them today. The Eagles only outgained Yale 421-316, but a 3-1 turnover advantage swung the game heavily in Boston College's favor.

"Obviously, we'd really like to be competitive in these regional games, so today's result is disappointing," remarked Yale head coach Lee Williamson after the game. "I think we're a better team than we showed out there today, and hopefully we can put that on display next week [against Central Michigan]."

Yale Overcomes 14-0 First Quarter Deficit to Win 24-14 Over Central Michigan

NEW HAVEN, CT - The Yale Bulldogs (1-1) picked up their first win of the season this afternoon as they kept Central Michigan (0-2) winless with a 24-14 victory at home this afternoon in New Haven.

The game didn't start well for Yale as Central Michigan scored on their first play from scrimmage, and the Chippewas jumped out a 14-0 first quarter lead. Central Michigan led by two touchdowns until 3:21 left in the second quarter, when Jerry Dickerson nailed a 43-yard field goal to cut the Central Michigan lead to 14-3. A key fumble later in the quarter set Yale up with a short field, and Robbie Payne ran in a four-yard touchdown run with just six seconds left in the quarter to cut the Chippewas lead to 14-10 at the half.

Yale continued to pour it on in the third quarter. Yale forced a second Central Michigan fumble on the Chippewas' first third quarter possession, and Yale quarterback Nate Ellerbee ran in a rare touchdown to give Yale their first lead of the game, 17-14. Then, as time expired in the third quarter, Ellerbee found Matt Hughes for a 20-yard touchdown through the air to extend the lead to 24-14, which would also be the final margin.

Central Michigan, after leading 14-0 at the end of the first quarter, was held scoreless for the final three quarters of the game. Senior running back Zach Steltz ran for 175 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries, but the Chippewas struggled to get anything going in the passing game. Quarterback Derrick Montgomery, who was filling in for injured starter Andy Simmons, completed only seven of 18 passes for 83 yards.

Yale senior quarterback Nate Ellerbee passed for 195 yards, a touchdown, and an interception, and also added a rushing touchdown. Matt Hughes led Yale in receiving with six catches for 60 yards and a score. Robbie Payne also had a solid game on the ground for Yale with 20 carries for 86 yards and a touchdown.

The Bulldogs forced three critical lost Central Michigan fumbles today, with Kelvin Jones starring with nine tackles, one tackle-for-loss, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.

Yale will head to Hartford, CT to take on the UConn Huskies next Saturday.
