Coastal Carolina Hires Joe Danaher

Conway, SC --- The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will have a new man at the helm in 2022. Joe Danaher, the son of Texas high school football coaching legend Phil Danaher, will be taking the reigns for one of the hottest FBS programs in the country. Danaher comes to Coastal from South Dakota State where he served as the offensive coordinator over the past 3 seasons. This will be Danaher's first job as a head coach, which has sparked some controversy. However, Danaher is eager to prove doubters wrong. Over the last decade Danaher has made a name for himself in the college ranks as an outstanding recruiter and a creative offensive mind. At 35 years old Danaher will be one of the youngest FBS head coaches.

Prior to serving as the offensive coordinator at South Dakota State Danaher coached the running backs at South Carolina for 3 years, making this Danaher's second stop in the Palmetto State. Danaher also has stops at Georgia State (2 years) and Campbell (3 years). Danaher's coaching career began in 2009 at Mississippi State where he served as a GA.

Danaher graduated from Texas A&M University in the spring of 2009. While attending the university he played quarterback for the Aggies, but never saw significant field time. As a high school quarterback, Danaher played for his father at Calallen. Joe started for three years, compiling a record of 33-7. Joe's father, Phil Danaher, has won more games as a head coach than any high school coach in the history of Texas.

Danaher Finalizes Coaching Staff

Conway, SC --- As fall camp approaches new head football coach Joe Danaher finalized his first Coastal Carolina coaching staff today. Most members of the staff are holdovers from the previous staff, or came with Danaher from South Dakota State. It is worth noting that both coordinators came from the University of South Carolina where they were position coaches. Danaher did a great job of finding talented coaches that have recruited this area, while also mixing in his own style. There is obviously a lot of potential with this coaching staff, but some members of the Coastal fan base have voiced concern over the youth present. Danaher insists that his staff will not have any issues in that department.

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will open up their 2022 season hosting the Buffalo Bulls. Head Coach Joe Danaher will make his FBS debut and will look to get off on the right foot in front of the home crowd.

Chanticleers Outlast Bulls

Conway, SC ---Head Coach Joe Danaher came away with a victory in his first game at Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers held on to survive a late push from Buffalo, winning 41-34. Danaher lived up to his offensive reputation as the Chants put up 548 yards of offense on the day. "We knew coming in that the personnel here fit what we've done as a staff. It was a great fit from the beginning, and it's great to see that all come together to get the first win of the season," Danaher said after the game.

The Coastal Carolina offense had little trouble moving the ball today. Most of the stops that Buffalo was able to make were a result of poor execution from the Chants offense. Quarterback Grayson McCall threw an interception on the opening drive of the game, but bounced back with a 75 yard touchdown run on the first play of the following possession. McCall would finish the day 15/22 for 212 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception. He also added 148 yards on the ground and a touchdown. Sophomore running back Braydon Bennett also rushed for 148 yards on 22 carries with a touchdown. Senior wide receiver Sam Pinckney contributed with 104 yards on just 4 catches. The Chants would add 152 yards in the return game to finish the day with 700 total yards, and the team never had to punt!

The Coastal Carolina defense was inconsistent on the day. The Chants gave up 396 yards of offense, 251 of which came through the air. Buffalo did not turn the ball over on the day, but they were held to 6/10 on third down conversions, which was ultimately what decided the game. Defensive players of the game were junior safety Jahmar Brown (8 tackles, 1 TFL), sophomore outside linebacker Josaiah Stewart (6 tackles, 1 TFL), and sophomore outside linebacker Shane Bruce (4 tackles, 2 TFL, 1 sack).

The Chants will be back in action next Saturday as they host Army.

Game Video

**Unfortunately my video quit recording after about 30 minutes, so about half of the second half was lost.
