The Steelers entered the game missing a lot of cogs. DL Tuitt and Alualu are both on IR, CB Joe Haden was out with foot injury, OG Kevin Dotson is currently on IR and the other starting guard Trai Turner hurt his quad in his practice this week. The Steelers showed a fight in them that would make many Steelers alumni proud after many spoke out on the debacle that was Bengals game. The Steelers got contributions from guys many wouldn't expect.

The Steelers got off to a slow start. They began the game with a three and out. After forcing a stop on the next Ravens drive the Steelers mounted a drive. Struggling to find consistent success on the ground the Steelers turned to #7 and the quick game. Using Claypool's size and Johnson's quickness the Steelers exploited the Ravens secondary while protecting their OL. Ben then found TE Zach Gentry at the 2 yard line to set up a 3rd and goal. Najee Harris then pounded the ball into the endzone to give the Steelers a 7-0 lead. The score came at a cost as Joe Haeg left the game with a chest injury forcing recently prompted John Leglue to finish the game at RG. Leglue would turn in a solid performance. On the ensuing drive the Steelers continued to frustrate Lamar Jackson. On the 4th play of the drive Jackson attempted to hit Sammy Watkins on a curl route, CB Ahkello Witherspoon getting his first start of the year jumped the route and picked it off. He raced 25 yards before Jackson forced him out of bounds. The Steelers responded by taking advantage the next drive. Roethlisberger dropped backed and hit Diontae Johnson on a crossing route. Johnson turned on the jets and split the Ravens defense as he raced to the endzone to complete the 32 yard TD. At the end of one the score stood at 14-0.

The Ravens would respond with a drive of their own. Latavius Murray would split the middle of the Steelers on a trap. Racing untouched for the 28 yard score. Outside of this Murray struggled to find his footing as he would only net 15 yards on his other 9 carries. A Boswell field goal to end the half would give the Steelers a 17-7 half time lead.

The Ravens found some footing to start the second half. Lamar made some plays with his legs whenever the Steelers looked to employ man coverage. Forcing them to play zone the majority of the game to have their eyes on him. After reaching the redzone, Baltimore faced a 3rd and 11. Jackson looked to hit Hollywood Brown in the back corner of the endzone. Witherspoon continued to add to his solid outting by batting down the pass (he would have 3 on the day) to force the Tucker field goal. The score stood at 17-13. After a Steelers punt, the Ravens began to move the ball again. After crossing midfield, Joe Schobert ripped the ball from Latavius Murray. Alex Highsmith jumped on the fumble to give the Steelers the ball. In the waning moments of the third Boswell would add another field goal to make the score 20-13.

The Steelers turned to "Renegade" to start the 4th quarter. Cam Heyward would record 2 or 3 TFLs on the drive. Witherspoon would record his last pass defensed of the night to force the punt. Roethlisberger and Harris would drive the Steelers drive. Converting two 4th and shorts in the process. Facing a 2nd and goal from the 6 yard line, Roethlisberger threw a dart to Diontae Johnson at the front pile as he beat his man on an out cut. The Boswell try would put the Steelers up 27-13. The Ravens would not go down without a fight. A Roughing penalty and a Jackson scamper on a designed run helped drive the Ravens back into the redzone. Trying to cut the lead in half the Ravens turned to another Jackson run. Jackson slipped past Schobert and Bush and approached the goal line. It looked as if he was about to stroll into the endzone when Minkah Fitzpatrick cut his legs from under him and punched the ball out. It rolled into the endzone where Joe Schobert pounced on it to give the Steelers possession at the 20. The Steelers would then go on to kill the last 5 minutes on the clock to win the ball game. The Steelers will travel to Minnesota on Thursday on a short week.

Extra Notes: Steelers run improvement was driven by stars being stars (Heyward and Watt) and some unsung heroes. Devin Bush has struggled all year but played his best game of the season. Newly signed NT Mon Adams helped solidified the middle. On the back end, Witherspoon may have won him snaps over Pierre when Haden gets healthy. Lamar's struggles vs the Steelers continues. Leglue filled in at Guard very nicely and the Steelers started to have success running behind him as he didn't allow any pressures. Rookie LT Dan Moore also had what could have been his best game so far this season.

Steelers Week 14 Transaction and Practice Report

The Steelers have made a few moves to start the week of prep. OLB Taco Charlton was injured at practice last week, so the Steelers have called up OLB Jacob Tuioti-Mariner to fill his spot with it looking like he will miss this week as well. In 6 games for the Flacons this season, Tuioti-Mariner tallied 9 tackles, 2 sacks, and a pass defensed.

The Steelers have also signed CB Damon Arnette Jr to their practice squad. Arnette Jr found himself let go by the Raiders after a social media post involving a threat with a weapon. He is also currently involved in a separate hit and run law suit. The former first round pick only appeared in 4 games this season following a 9 game performance his rookie season. After playing in 55% of the defensive snaps last year as a rookie he only was on the field for 21% of the teams defensive snaps this season prior to his release. It is an unexpected signing by the Steelers as they continue to look for CB depth beyond their top guys.

The Steelers gear up to head to Minnesota where they face Vikings on Thursday. On a short week the Steelers will likely be without the likes of Joe Haden who will now miss another game with his foot. Taco Charlton looks like he will miss the game as well. In positive news, RG Trai Turner will return back to the starting line up. The Steelers have reportedly turned their focus to stopping RB Dalvin Cook who tallied over 120 yards in the loss to Detroit on Sunday. Coach Tomlin has stressed the importance of being detailed this week with his staff and team due to the short week and the multiple nature of the Vikings.

The Steelers come away with a big win in Minnesota. Though the Steelers were over 800 miles away from their home venue, Steelers nation filled the stadium. Many Steelers commented that it felt a lot like a home game after the game concluded.

A look at the box score would make it seem like the Steelers dominated from the onset, but that wasn't the case. The Vikings got off to a fast start. Using Cook in the run game as Justin Jefferson caught 3 balls for around 40 yards to put the Vikings just inside the redzone. Cousins lined up in the gun and as he took the snap T.J. Watt came off the edge with a purpose forcing a quick throw. Cousins' pass traveled towards Jefferson for his 4th target of the day, but the ball found Cam Sutton who drove on the post route and picked it off at the goal line to end the Viking threat. The Steelers moved down the field with a balanced attack as the leaned on Harris in the run game and rookie TE Pat Freiermuth over the middle of the field as Roethlisberger found him 3 times on the first drive. Facing a 3rd and 5, Roethlisberger took the snap from the gun. Rookie LT Dan Moore blocked down to his inside gap and left Harrison Smith wide open off the edge as his sack forced a field goal from Boswell. The Vikings once again drove down the field into Pittsburgh territory. Facing a 4th and 1, Coach Zimmer opted to roll the dice. Cousins dialed up a play action, but before he could get the ball off DL Chris Wormley wrapped him up for a sack. The Steelers once again drove down the field but failed to bunch it into the endzone and had to settle for another Boswell field goal as the score stood at 6-0 to end the first.

The second quarter is where the Steelers started to pull away from the Vikings. After forcing a Viking punt, Pittsburgh drove its way inside the 20 yard line. From 16 yards out, Roethlisberger found Johnson on a shallow crossing route that he turned up field, splitting two Viking defenders as he dove across the goal line. The score stood at 13-0. The Steelers once again made a push to score at the end of the half. Using Claypool and Johnson, both had 3 catches on the drive, Pittsburgh found itself inside the Viking 5 yard line. From the gun, Roethlisberger dialed up a draw to back up RB Benny Snell who punched the ball into the endzone for his first on the season. The score stood at 20-0 with less than 15 seconds to go in the first half.

The Steelers started the second half with the ball. They didn't waste any time. On the 3rd play of the half Roethlisberger let a ball down fly down the left sideline. Johnson caught in stride as he pulled away from the Viking secondary as he completed the 65 yard catch and run to put the Steelers up 27-0. The Vikings would finally get on the scoreboard with less than two minutes to go in the third as Dalvin Cook ripped off one of the most impressive 16 yard TD run you will ever see. Breaking 3 tackles before cutting back across the grain to out run Ahkello Witherspoon to the front pile on to make the score 27-7. The Steelers would put the clamps on the Vikings to milk the 4th period clock. A defense that didn't budge as the run game iced the game. The Steelers would add a Najee Harris TD run from 11 yards out and a Boswell field goal to put the score at 37-7.

Extra Notes: The Steelers defense continues to find its groove. ILB Devin Bush racked up 12 tackles in his best game of the season as he looks to continue to work out of his 3rd season slump. Fellow ILB Joe Schobert also played one of his better games with 2 pass defensed after struggling in coverage this season. This will be key for him and team as they have a decision to make about his contract this off season. Johnson and Claypool both caught 7 balls for over 100 yards as Freiermuth continued to work the middle of the field. Benny Snell also got some carries to lighten the load off the rookie. The Steelers used a lot of tempo today showing that even if Roethlisberger isn't the guy he once was he is still in command of this offense as he made big throws all game. The Steelers also left the game healthy as they continue to look to get hot entering the final stage of the season.
