Re: GB 2021: A Packers Franchise

Keys to the Game

Packers

Ground Game
Green Bay ran the football 15 times for just 62 yards against the Saints in week 1. That is just not good enough especially for a team that likes to feature the offense around being able to run effectively. Aaron Jones needs more touches against Detroit to get this ground game on track

Takeaways
Joe Barry's defense did not force any turnover last week, and to compound the problem Green Bay gave the ball away three times. (-3) in the turnover differential is uncharacteristic for Aaron Rodgers and a Matt Lafleur offense that has always prided themselves on taking care of the football.

Third Down
Green Bay's offense was just 2-8 on 3rd down and P Corey Bojorquez was called on to punt 4 times. The offense needs to be more efficient and sustain drives longer

Lions

Defense must avoid giving up big plays
Detroit's defense must focus on limited Green Bay's big plays downfield. Aaron Rodgers didnt take many down field shots last week and i expect that will change Monday Night at Lambeau. This young Detroit secondary will certainly be tested by Aaron Rodgers

Jared Goff
Jared Goff had a lions debut to forget last week. He managed only 119 passing yards and only put up 7 points on offense. After DeAndre Swift and Tj Hockenson offense does not have much fire power and Jared Goff needs to play better if he hopes to lead this Lions team to future success

Weather the Lambeau Field storm
The Packers return home to a packed house for the first time in over a year and expect the crowd to be loud in Lambeau Monday Night. If Detroit can counter punch early, they might be able to neutralize this crowd.

Good to see some Packers action on here!

It’ll be nice to follow along with this franchise. And, if I’ve learned anything from the Lions being a mess for decades, its that this is your chance to get in a rhythm and set the tone for the season.

Good luck!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aaron Rodgers said earlier this week he couldn't wait to be back inside a full capacity Lambeau Field and that he hoped the team would would use the MNF national stage as a motivator to get back on the winning track. When all was settled Monday night it appears that message was well received. It seemed like everything went the Packers way in this game. A would-be INT from Rodgers to end the 2nd quarter turned in to a Davante Adams TD. One could argue that the pass before should have also been intercepted. Which just furthers the narrative that you cannot give Aaron Rodgers second chances and you must capitalize when you have the chance to take the ball away from him. Despite those two close calls, Rodgers was nearly perfect on the night going 19/21 and tossing 3 TD's. Matt LaFleurs offense was much more balanced tonight which allowed them to keep the Detroit defense on its toes.

"I thought both Aarons played outstanding tonight. Their success is critical to this offense producing at the level we expect it to. I thought the offensive line was able to move the line of scrimmage and we had a clean game as far as sacks go, so a great deal of credit goes to those guys up front as well. This was really a total team win for us."
-HC Matt LaFleur

------------------------------------------------------------

That total team win was also a credit to Joe Berry's defense that recorded 4 sacks (including 2 from Rashan Gary) and also an interception from Adrian Amos deep in Green Bay territory that kept points off the board for Detroit.

"We didn't get as many stops on third down as we would have liked to, but those guys battled all night and made big plays when we needed them. This is definitely a performance we can build off of."
-DC Joe Barry

Nice get-right game! I see those 2 sacks from Rashan Gary too. Nice.

Re: GB 2021: A Packers Franchise

The Packers traveled out West to take on the 49ers on Sunday Night in what would be their toughest challenge so far on the young season. Kyle Shannahan's 49ers rolled through the first two weeks of the season and entered tonights game with the leagues #1 defense and #2 scoring offense. Historically, Matt LaFleur's teams have not performed well on the West Coast but Sunday Night was a totally different outcome. On offense the Packers were paced by their ground attack. Aaron Jones found the end zone twice and racked up 149yards from scrimmage. Despite just 200 yards passing and 1 TD, Aaron Rodgers looked in command all night and kept the offense rolling down the field. His lone TD pass came in the 3rd quarter when he found the 'Big Dog" Marcedes Lewis in the corner of the end zone to give GB a 24-3 lead.

Green Bay's defense was the big story on the night. They cooled down a 49ers offense that had been scorching. The biggest play of the game came on 3rd and 14 at the end of the 1st Qtr. With Green Bay up 7-0, Za'Darius Smith strip sacked Jimmy Garoppolo and Kenny Clark scooped it up for the 35yd scoop and score TD. KC also added 4 TFL and a sack of his own. The Packers front four had constant pressure all night making life difficult for Jimmy Garoppolo. Jimmy G was rushing throws and under duress all night. Joe Berry heaped praise on his defensive unit,
"I'm so proud of Kenny and the guys tonight. They knew the challenge they faced and they rose to the occasion. It's important that we just try to stack these performances back to back and so forth. We expect to play this way every week regardless who our opponent is. "
