Working retail in a prior life I can tell you that shipping is out of a store's hands most of the time. If you continually get your shipments on a Monday when others get them on a thurs or fri of the prior week you can lose thousands in sales of a timely product. If that happens a few times you'd just stop trying at some point. That's also a reason why media releases on Tuesdays. Wasn't always that way and it was a mess. Stores are bound to these street dates now or the face heavy fines or even a loss of privileges to carry the product.

Re: Getting the game early?!?
I'm not saying that street dates should be trashed. I don't agree with stores selling games willy-nilly, as soon as they come in. I'm all for fairness.
The thing is that, most games are put on disks supposedly 2 weeks before release date. This is done to correct for shipping issues, so that every retailer will have it by launch date. I would think that most places should receive their stock, well in advance. Of course this is a very special case with MLB 14. The PS3 version hit stores in April. If the PS4 version was ready, they could have sent out a memo to push up the release date.
Anyways, this speculation is all in good fun. Who wouldn't want a copy right now? Yes the developers can say this was a transitional year, with the PS4 coming into the fold. Personally, I would call BS on that. Sony had to have given them warning, much earlier than last year. Consoles don't just sprout up in one year. Let's hope MLB 15 The Show is a simultaneous release!Comment
