Re: Not Supposed to Guess Every Pitch?

    Ah, the tradition continues!

Every year, there is a "Guess Pitch" thread.

Every year, numerous people come in to bash "Guess Pitch" and tell the world that it is better not to use it. As if there is ONE ANSWER to this question.

And every year, there are people (like me) who benefit from using it.

Been playing the game since 2008, and I know what works for me and what does not.

The key is reading the pitch ASAP out of the pitcher's hand, whether you use Guess Pitch or not. And please don't tell me that using Guess Pitch makes that read harder or easier .... you are not in my head or in my shoes.

    .............

On the OP, correct, you should not use Guess Pitch every time. And you should vary your guesses.

I can't remember what the in-game guide is called. You can track it down in-game! Read the section on Guess Pitch carefully.

Definitely couldn't care less if someone uses it. It's your game, you paid for it. My perspective was about achieving the most realistic experience. If a hitter "guesses" a pitch in real life his bat doesn't become super-charged. They just look for that pitch. Same in the game.

The OP seemed like someone who is looking for hitting tips, so people told him the best advice for hitting better is not relying on being told where the ball is coming--especially because, as you said, guessing wrong turns the bat into a twig.

To each their own. Choose whatever option makes the game more fun for you. Personally, I have never used guess pitch. Now that someone said that it reduces your contact zone I really will never use it. I'm okay at picking up pitches. Every year it seems I have to work on the timing a little and I still occasionaly have trouble laying off a 12-6 curve that I think is in the middle of the plate (but usually drops well below the zone). Also, like someone mention above, I almost never try to move the PCI when hitting preferring to leave it in the middle and try to look for mistakes. With a good enough contact rating that usually means I can fould off straikes around the edge of the zone.

Also, over the past few iterations of "The Show", they've made it more of a penalty if you don't guess the right pitch and/or location. Something severe that makes it not even worthwhile to use it.
I use it, but I also think it might be a penalty to me also, because when I see my "Fastball right down the middle" coming, sometimes I get so amped up to CRUSH IT that I swing right through it HAHA!!! And end up screaming S** O* A B****!!!!!
So yea, now I mostly use it as a safety for breaking balls down and away, because I am having a hard time laying off them.

If it's not there, then take it. If it is, swing for the fences. Also, if a pitcher is pounding a certain part of the strike zone repeatedly, lock in on that spot like a hitter would. You could always turn off visual cues but GP is definitely not a crutch if used right. If used incorrectly, it's more debilitating than anything.
I use it without the mechanic. In a hitters count I hold the PCI in the position I want to sit on. If the pitch comes to the area I want, I crush it. If it doesn't I lay off. You can guess without using the arcady mechanic that locks you on to a pitch. I actually like using the no feedback. Gives you a ratings boost if guess correctly, but you still have to square the ball up yourself.

Yea have to hate that when you expect fastball, get fastball but you get so jumpy that you swing way too early lol.
