Re: Digital copy vs Hard Copy

Was once a disc person, then switched to digital downloads. Love the fact that I don't have to switch discs when changing games. Of course, there is no trade in of the disc when you are finished playing the game, but I still prefer the convenience of digital.

I am a disc man, not because I don't want digital copies, but mainly because you can't get discounts on digital downloads. Like the Amazon Prime new game discount. I like spending less money on things I buy and I would love to get the digital but I enjoyed buying the MVP edition for less than the regular edition costs.

Yes I agree with you on this. But the convenience is a selling point

No doubt. The convenience of digital is nice, however, for someone like me who has a PS only for The Show I'm not changing disks except once a year anyways convenience isn't really a factor. I still think I would rather save 20% and have the minor inconvenience of changing disks or not being able to preload. That is just me and there is no wrong answer to this question.

I'm a big fan of digital. Not having to worry about switching discs or the possibility of the disc being damaged. I don't trade in games either. And being able to play at Midnight is awesome.

I'm planning in short mid-term to buy the PS4 Pro. I prefer to buy and preload the digital copy but in case I'm buying a new console, will it be easier to re-install the game from a hard copy or will I be able to re-download it from the PS Store ?

Download size & time is not really an issue but not sure if we can re-download an already install game bought online.

Thx in advance for your help

Since you're considering buying a PS4 Pro and don't say what you'll be doing with your current PS4 one thing to keep in mind in the event you decide to keep both is that digital can be played on 2 systems simultaneously. I bought a PS4 pro last year and kept my original so that my son and I could play at the same time and having bought all digital really paid off. Whether we just want to play the same game at the same time separately or together online we only need 1 copy. And of course there's no swapping discs back and forth.

Good point purplerat. Thx for the very important info since I'm planning to use my old PS4 to play at the hotel on my frequent work trips and keep my Pro at home .

                  Thx again

Re: Digital copy vs Hard Copy

I went digital this year (after originally pre-ordering via Amazon) because I found out I need to travel to LA for work and want to have it preloaded on my PS4 by the time I head out the Monday before (yes I am taking my PS4 to a work trip!).

I wish the the digital games would be released early, I think they would have more people buying them.
It would be the counter to physical games ability to be traded in. As soon as the game is gold, they should release the digital copies.....wishful thinking.

This is how I feel as well. I got the 17 MVP edition for only $38 after discounts! I also like having all the game cases for the series on my shelf. Love those steel books.

Re: Digital copy vs Hard Copy

This will be the third year now that I have chosen the MLB The Show digital version over the physical one (I've been buying MLB The Show every year since 12 and the early copies were all physical ones). With digital I just like that I can be playing the game at the stroke of 10:00:00 on release day (I am in the mountain time zone) and if I went with the physical copies I would need to wait until the next day when the stores open before I could begin playing.

But the PS Network does screw us on some of the titles. Recently I wanted to pick up an older copy of the NBA 2k basketball series. I am not a hardcore basketball person, so buying the latest iteration of the game is not needed. Problem is, is that the PS Network was still selling the NBA 2k15 and 2k16 digital versions at full price. WTF I said, no way I am paying full price for 2 and 3 year old copies of the game. So I ended up buying a used physical copy of 2k16 for only $15 at a EB Games location. Sometimes Digital makes sense, other times physical copies are better.

How many games generally fit on a system with digital downloads? I'd do digital downloads all day if I wasn't so concerned about wasting hard drive space.

Digital games take up same amount of HDD space as physical.
All PS4 games are installed, fully, no matter what.

Depends on 1. the size of the game and 2 the size of your hdd. You can upgrade your PS4 to have 1+ TB or use an external hard drive (latest update made that happen) to save your games/data.

This seems illogical to me. If a digital download and a physical copy are both fully installed then why would we need the physical disc after first installation? There seems to be "something" still on the disc which requires you to have the disc in the system every time you play it. I doubt the entire disc is just copied into your system. I could totally be wrong but it just doesn't seem logical to me.
