What I meant was: how would transactions work in Franchise mode? What are we buying? It sounds like an interesting idea to me, and I'm not thinking of any good examples of what we could purchase.

I was joking. I have no idea what it would involve but whatever it is I'm too cheap to buy it.

Which is why Franchise Mode is not their priority. The only thing they have that is stubs related for Franchise is different sponsorships. It's really unfortunate. Seems like every sports game is turning to this way of doing things. It's one thing to buy packs for DD but to have to buy individual pieces of equipment? Come on... a little off topic because this is mostly RTTS based, but at least with NBA 2k, you could use the training points you earned to buy gear, tattoos, skill points ect. It was all the same currency. MLB it's stubs. The training points you earn each game in RTTS are only used for attributes. If they had it where I could buy stubs with my training points, that's one thing. But this way they are basically forcing you to use real money just to have things that should be available from day 1. I love the game. I haven't had an MLBTS since 13 on PS3 so I am blown away by about everything with how much the game has improved, but it is very disappointing they had to involve stubs currency into offline modes just out of greediness.

          Haha, post of the year!

Yeah, the grind or pay model could be used for almost anything infrastructure-wise if they beefed up the franchise -- but they'd have to add back features they already took out or implement something like what 2K does in MyGm, which I think SMOKES MLBTS's Franchise mode. I would LOVE to see GM Badges in MLBTS.

I'm like you. I remember playing MLB '09, but I hadn't even played a baseball game since then until I bought '16. '17 is amazing, so much better than my previous favorite: MVP '05. But all of these online thrills / arcade modes / in-game purchases aren't my thing. I don't blame them for doing it, and they're not bad ideas. But I've been a Franchise guy since High Heat 2001, and I don't have interest in anything else.

Offline franchise is where this game really stands out. I don't see any problems with it honestly

Re: OS community: How can we improve Franchise Mode?

I personally am all about presentation in this game and there is a laundry list of things that I would love to see this game get in but probably never will because of too many people "button mash" through cut scenes.

Immersion is the "key to a franchise. True? true. ok here is my list of things that IMO need to be added to make this game really great...

                1. every opening day (home or away) actually do what they do in real life and go through all the pomp and circumstance of it. take the time to have the PA announcer all the coaches and players for the team. L et them line up as in real life.

Yes, that would take time but I for one would love it...

                2. once again a time-consuming cut scene but again it is all about getting you into the moments. If a player on your team has won any awards have a pre-game ceremony for them as they do in real life on their home opening game.

                3. Did anyone watch the cubs first home games this year? raising the World Series Banner as a team, then two nights later doing the ring ceremony... I would love to see those in the game... I personally would love to have it be a thing even if you were playing the team that won it... immersion... people.. immersion...

                3. Quick Pitch shows with Heidi Watney after the end of each game... Ok maybe not full on studio shows and don't get me wrong I love the radio show but a daily highlight show would be awesome... MLB Network immersion.

                4. I would love to watch an actual game with them the team that is.. more cut scenes as in a real life broadcast...

there is a lot more but the wife has a tv on in the background and can't think... SCEA... PLEASE watch an actual game on MLBN and just take note of every detail you see from the commentary on the cut scenes to the overlays everything... button mashers will always be speed demons but there are some of us that want to have more in our games... I never push X on anything... I always allow my catcher to give signs... count to 3-5 then release the pitch...

I would love to see this game get more immersive from the real life broadcast POV... that is all I have ever wanted

Does it bother you when player ratings drop because they're mad about a contract you can't modify in-season?

as for what could be bought and sold in franchise mode micro-transaction style
maybe super advanced stat tracking from year to year, you could decide how many stats you want to track, box scores from year to year, all saved in an on-line cloud, not the hardrive.
but the pushback from some consumers "we should get all that free" and the resulting bad publicity will be why it wont work, but for the moment assume we lived in a sane world. They could sell different season schedules, Sony would only be limited by imagination.

Interesting idea, Caulfield. For me, I would only pay for things I feel like are motivating the developers to keep improving the mode. How do we do that?

Here's a radically different idea: in-game crowd-funding based on a developer-provided wish list. Developers provide a network-wide poll with 20 different Franchise wishes. Gamers vote on which ones are most important, and then they can each pay a small amount to fund the wish and make it a reality.

That way, we're paying for exactly what we want, and we're giving direct feedback to help developers know what we want and in what order.

Have you gone years-deep? How those cpu-generated prospects working for you? How's scouting after the draft working for you? Extend many contracts in-season? How do you set your ticket prices?

And yes, I love the mode too, but it has LOTS of problems.

                          Hold on, maybe I'm confused.

Your idea would be for the customer to pay to have a new feature/wish added to the game? On top of paying the $60 price tag?

                          Maybe I'm misunderstanding???

And yes, I love the mode too, but it has LOTS of problems.
What I like about my crowd-funding wish list idea is we can stop having these back and forths about what is / isn't a problem and instead put our money where our mouth is.

                            Working example:

Community screen has wish-lists for each mode. For Franchise, there are 20 handpicked wishes. I rank my list based on my personal priorities and submit, adding my votes to the global network results. You do the same, and at the end of each month, developers agree to fulfill the highest voted priority.

How does crowd-funding work? Well, one way is to disburse virtual points to each wish, sort of like dividing up RPG points when making a character. Say you've bought $10 worth of in-game points (make it 1000 points for ease). I think mid-season contract extensions are most important, so important in fact that I put all 1000 points into that one wish and leave the rest empty. You think cpu-generated prospects need more attention, so you give that 100 points and then divide up your remaining 900, assigning them to the other 19 wishes however you choose.

At the end of the month, say the highest priority is the trade system, given a total of 10 billion points. Developers agree to provide a patch within a month's time that significantly addresses that issue.

Of course, there are a few serious issues with this.

                            1. How do devs decide what goes on the wish list?
                            2. How do we make each wish clear and simple? "Overhaul the trade system" is an unrealistic, vague wish. "Fix issue with GMs saying they like trades and then declining because of financial issues" is more clear.
                            3. What happens when devs can't satisfy the wish in a month's time? Is 1 wish per month too frequent? Should it be every 3 months?
                            4. How do users get these virtual points? How do they buy them, and can they be used elsewhere?

Precisely. At this point, I think it's the most reasonable, effective way to make real change based on community priorities. If you can think of a better idea, please tell us.

One thing I've always wanted was the ability to update in-season rosters with SCEA roster updates. I wouldn't expect it to work in seasons beyond the current one, but for current ones, update player attributes when a roster comes out (and then apply whatever +/- you've accumulated while playing). And any players that are added, either add to your roster or even easier, add to the FA list.

                                Ok.

I don't think you're going to convince the consumer base of this game, or any game for that matter, to pay extra money on top of the retail price to get features they want in the game. And I don't see how the consumer base paying extra money to get certain features in the game is going to solve the two biggest hurdles SDS has each year, time (dev cycle) and resources (number of people working on any given mode).

As for better idea, I think the open communication we have with the devs at this site has been working fine. They will open up various threads asking for input on particular modes and things we as the community would like to see. Then they do their best to implement.
