I like how Clyde Washington said "That's a ball." with such confidence.

It would be nice if on a caught looking called 3rd strike, there was a kind of mini game where theres an animated sort of cut-scene where you have a polite 'discussion' with the ump. and if you make the discussion take too long, the next time that batter plates, the ump remembers and any close strikes go against you, but if you time your discussion just perfectly, the ump will give you the benefit of the doubt on close pitches that next time.

That remind me of a scene from Naked Gun.

Leaning towards this as well. I know what to expect from the video without even looking because I've seen calls like it myself, but I've never seen an egregiously bad one that went right over the middle get called a ball in offline play.

There are bad calls, and then there's the stuff that happens online sometimes.

I've had this go against me in real life hundreds of times when I pitched. Literally felt I threw balls over the heart of the plate that were called balls.

Put me in the "it's baseball" camp

Still funny to see in a game and the reactions lol

How would you feel if you were the one actually on he mound and threw that pitch?

You can see the ball stutter in the video (and OP confirmed) that it was an online game. Anything with SDS servers involved, all bets are off. I've never seen a call this bad in offline (and I agree with A&S that the inconsistency/tendency of umpires in MLBTS are a welcomed feature).

Gotta be a glitch. No way they intended to have pitches like that be called balls. Guessing its server related too.

Angel Hernandez must have been behind the plate for that game?

I'm all for the "it's baseball" take, and I'll never turn on perfect calls, but I have noticed the past several games (over a week or so) a marked uptick in bad calls going against my pitchers -- balls WHOLLY in the zone, right inside the box, that are called balls. A game yesterday had 7 blown calls in 5 innings, of course with poor Jose Berrios who just got his massive upgrade...I can't remember watching a game that had that many clear strikes called balls in real life, at least not since the 90's. The occasional blown call is awesome, but it seems to have gotten out of hand...

...hmmmm, might have to test this some more over several games this weekend.
