Anybody else go with a more traditional leadoff hitter/ lineup?

Generally I like going with a more traditonal leadoff hitter ( Higher contact ratings and speed rating). I usually prefer this method as walk rates for me tend to be closer together on all my batters (on the account that I'm the one controlling all of them so their tendencies are similar).

I also usually target a lefty with higher plate vision as my #2 hitter. So as I'm starting a Cubs franchise I'll probably start with Almora as my leadoff hitter, still haven't decided on a #2 yet.

Anyone else take this approach? It's not so much due to being anti-sabermetrical as it is that walk % tend to skew together for me.

I tend to stack my top 4 hitters based on how well I hit with them...

But, like you, amongst those 4 guys, I favor the speedy (or lowest power) guys first and the big boppers behind them.

I DO look a bit at discipline and vision ratings when constructing my lineup as I usually walk a bit more with them...but to your point....we're controlling all 9 guys....so overall walk rates are all under our control.

It totally depends on the team and the quality of the higher contact/ speed guy. The cubs are rolling with Bryant/rizzo/baez/schwarber/contreraras.. I think I kinda like that and Bryant is not super slow. Also Happ has been raking, I think he will be their everyday centerfielder.

For tha leadoff spot, I like using a combo of contact, speed, nd vision

Absolutely! I always, always play traditional NL style baseball. If at all possible, I want a high contact guy with a lot of speed to be my leadoff hitter. It will always be a goal for that guy to lead the league in steals.

After him, I usually put a guy with great contact but low power numbers in the 2 hole. My goal is to get the leadoff guy to third with one out most of the time.

Then I put my best overall batters 3-4-5.

Depending on how deep my lineup is, I might then put my best remaining hitter 8th, so that he gets on base more often and the pitcher is able to sac bunt him to second as much as possible.

I usually go with a more traditional approach but if I roll with my Braves I'll probably have Acuna, Albies, Freddie, and Ozuna 1-4. Last year I finally hopped on the pitcher batting 8th movement and did seem to do well with it and having a speedy/high contact/low power guy and 9.

I'm always going for a contact guy to leadoff, though I'm not inclined to go for speed too, I play station to station, rarely steal and am not aggressive at all on the basepath in general. I wont have Jonathan Villar in Baltimore this year so dunno if I'm going with Hanser or Hays to lead off in 20

I prefer high OB guys in the 1st & 2nd slot, and speed is a plus for leadoff.

If I have to pick one attribute for leadoff, it's OBP. If I get a second though, it's speed.

My current leadoff guy in my carry over isn't the fastest on the team, but he can reach 30 stolen bases in a good year. He'll average in the low 20s.

When I used the Braves last year in 19'. I kept inciarte at leadoff & Albies 2nd. Used Acuna as the cleanup hitter.
