    Scouting questions.

So I’ve always had a ton of questions about scouting. I’m just going to cut to the chase here.

    1) the players that are already completely scouted day one of your franchise, are those “consensus” first rounders so to speak?

    2) how in the world do you know when these guys are going to be drafted? What’s their draft projections? Where can I find that information, if at all.

    3) does it matter if you have a scout look at a player within his scouting region? Does he scout better if he’s an East scout scouting an East player?

Any information would be great. I’ve played for years and don’t know the answers to these things. What I’m most confused about it draft projection. You see hidden late round gems all the time. If a player is projected to go round 7 I don’t want to draft him round 1. I’d rather wait obviously.

    Thanks!

    1) yes, basically. They are guaranteed to have a high potential but may have an OVR as low as the 30's

    2) there isn't a scouting log like that. Rule of thumb is the best hitters will go before the best pitchers so tailor your approach accordingly

    3) Yes, as far as I know scouts work better in their respective regions

My best advice is to save on the day of the draft, make a list of prospects you're interested in the most, sim the draft, go to the player signing screen, scroll through all the teams and look at the draftees' ratings. This will help you get a better understanding of how to read scouting cards and understand the game's draft engine.

Thank you I appreciate it. They need to revamp this scouting engine! I’d be happy if it was even like maddens scouting system.

Scouting in this game needs to be completely re-done. It is as bare bones as it gets and its been this way far too long.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Agreed. Madden scouting isn’t anything amazing but it’s way better than this!

The irony of it being so bare bones is that it DOES give you that feeling that the draft is a total crapshoot, which is more true of the MLB draft than any other in sports. It's like, "Well....I kinda sorta think this guy will be pretty good...I think?"

I would be very happy with that uncertainty IF we had a more robust player development process (where we could guide players to learn new positions, pitches, etc.). I could then draft for 'tools' and mold players vs drafting 'by position' (which is not as much a 'baseball thing' as it is for other sports).

So, Rmiok...you're hardly the only one that's confused
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

              1) the players that are already completely scouted day one of your franchise, are those “consensus” first rounders so to speak?
Blue chippers, cream of the crop. Most likely to reach full potential.

              2) how in the world do you know when these guys are going to be drafted? What’s their draft projections? Where can I find that information, if at all.
You don't. If you want best possible player, draft by soonest ETA and highest potential. It won't always work, but if you just want highest OVR players generally speaking, it will.

              3) does it matter if you have a scout look at a player within his scouting region? Does he scout better if he’s an East scout scouting an East player?
Yes. Scouting out of region gets penalized by giving a larger margin of error. Can't recall numbers, but i believe its 10% to 15%.

Any information would be great. I’ve played for years and don’t know the answers to these things. What I’m most confused about it draft projection. Late round 'gems' are luck of the draw. I see just as many early round 'busts' picked by the cpu. Drafting in the game is probably closest to real life luck of the draw than we see in most sports games. Ppl say Madden's draft is too easy. I don't play nba, so I can't comment on it. It took a bit for me to figure the draft out, myself, but now it's very easy to pick the best players earliest. Do some research on your own about the 20-80 scale and you'll draft like a pro in no time. My only hint would be draft position players before pitchers. It's infinitely easier to gauge pitchers, and the pool of pitchers is way deeper.

Agreed. Re-working the scouting and player development need to go hand in hand and both need some serious TLC and updating. And with that, managers/coaches need to get TLC to coincide with the improvements to both scouting and player development.

I want to be able to teach a prospect a new position because I like his tool makeup but his current position is crowded but he may be able to learn a new spot. I want to be able to have a good pitching coach teach a pitcher new pitches and work on individual pitches to make them better.

So many things lacking in this area that aren't back of the box features, but would really go a long way into injecting life into a mode that is getting long in the tooth, especially for those of us that choose to carryover franchise saves year after year.
