Your worst franchise contracts of all time

Hey all! I thought this would be a fun subject to talk about. What are the WORST contracts that you have ever given out in MLB the Show? I can think of one that I just did. Michael Lorenzen, for 8 years. I did it because he has been ELITE for me for the past two seasons. He's had an ERA right around 1.00 and is the best reliever in the league right now. So, I decided to give him an 8 year extension, which I regretted almost as soon as I pushed X. I'm sure he'll be fine for a couple more years, but those last few years will be rough.

That is far from my worst contract though. Back in MLB 18 I signed Thor to a big 6 year deal and got half of a good season out of him before he started to fall off a cliff. By age 30 he was a 70 overall and struggling to stay in the big leagues. He hung on till age 32 when he finally retired after not posting an ERA under 5.00 in the big leagues since his age 29 season.

If we got back to MLB 10, which was my first MLB The Show game, I uh...didn't realize that potential was a thing. As in, I had no idea it existed. So, I based my signings entirely off of performance. As a result, I wound up dumping money and 10 year deals all over C potential guys that had a big year or two, and completely missing out on A potential guys who were still developing or maybe had a down year. That was not a fun experience.

I have a Rockies carry over franchise from 2014. I am a very cautious GM (reason I had a 100 loss season-playing every game lol). I'm in the middle of 19 still and overpaid for Edwin Encarnacion on a 4 yr/64 million deal. I had a void with Ben Paulsen slumping bad for a few years and my top prospect ever had a career ending injury.

    In 2.5 seasons?

    - .244 average
    - 41 homeruns
    - 168 RBI
    - Missed 82 games total due to various injuries

If it weren't for his injuries, it would be some decent production (OBP is a respectable .322). I should have known better. Was just super excited as he hit the 40 HR plateau 2 years in a row prior to signing and figure he would rake Coors.

back in Show 14, before I really knew I had such a mental block with left-handed pitchers, I secured Alex Wood to a nice long fat extension, thinking I'd develop him into my new Tom Glavine and he would be an anchor in my starting rotation for years to come. fast-forward justa couple seasons later, he was the highest paid LOOGY in big league history, with great stamina to boot.

in reality I could have easily traded him away because he still had/has value to the CPU (who has no problems with lefty hurlers) but like all my players, I'm a foolish sentimental mental sucker of a GM for almost all of my players and whatever the opposite of a Trader Jack is, that's what I am

but at least with this years new 3 year minimum batter rule I'm forced into getting more mileage out of him. and as he's still under 30 I expect I'll hang on to him long enough he will retire in Show 25 or 26 as a career Brave

Tommy Reidling, my "third baseman of the future".

I still had team control over him. I should have called his bluff and gone to arbitration. But no. I wanted him to be happy. So I gave into his demand for a multi-year contract.

His bat immediately proceeded to disappear off the face of the earth. I've never had buyers remorse so hard.

I ended up trading him to Texas for Xander Boegarts. More money, but committed to less time, while providing better defense and more consistent offence. Reidling has had a terrible year is Texas. Boegarts hasn't been setting the world on fire but he's lived up to his contract at least.

Not a contract, but years back I traded for Chris Davis before the All Star break who was on pace for 65 home runs. I gave up Edwin Diaz (then a SP with A potential) and a load of other prospects. Davis only hit 2 home runs for me the rest of the season... just could never hit with the dude.
