I mentioned RBI, but I never said it looks like it... I said that in someway sometimes I got a feeling of playing it, a downgraded cheap game as RBI, I cant spot it what it is yet... maybe im just too used to NBA2k and FIFA next gen lightining/general gfx and the show just looks to flat for me now.

Think wont keep me from playing it as I do since 2005 but indeed im disappointed.

Re: MLB The Show 21 - PS5 Vs. PS4 Graphics Comparison

I posted in the impressions but in my very short time with 21 on PS5, it’s definitely not a huge jump graphically from playing 20 on PS5. But I still think it looks really good, and the frame rate being so smooth is awesome. The Show always drove me crazy on PS4 Pro with how unstable the frame rate could be. So playing 20 and now 21 on PS5, I’m very happy with how the game runs so smoothly. Honestly that’s more important to me than a big graphical leap at this point. It’s the first year on next gen consoles so let’s see what they can do with 22 as far as the graphics are concerned. Just please keep the frame rate this smooth!

I understand exactly what you are saying, something “cheap” feeling as odd as that sounds. Fifa and nba2k on ps5 feel like premium products IMO

By the sounds of it. Perhaps "The show has changed" wasn't the best or most accurate slogan to use for this year...

Seems like this generation is more about performance than graphics. I've yet to see any of these games look substantially better on the PS5, but if they're running more consistently at 60 FPS and the console doesn't sound like it's about to take off or explode, I'd consider it a worthy upgrade.

I haven't bought the Show in a few years but not because of the graphics, more because of lack of Franchise updates and the differences in gameplay being pretty subtle. I don't have much reason to rip on the game for the sake of ripping on a game.

I think it's a good looking game but the difference between PS4 and PS5 in these videos is pretty negligible.  Faces look exactly the same to me.  Lighting looks a bit better.  Overall definitely not what I would have expected from the jump.  My biggest notice is that the faces, and especially the eyes look so odd and just not where they should be, IMO, when compared to videos I see of NBA 2k.

Gameplay itself looks smooth and top notch, really great on the wider shots.  The close-ups to me are what throws things off when I see the faces.  In the more broadcast elements type scenes.  For me if I was impressed with Franchise mode updates I might consider getting it because I can deal with graphic stuff.

My guess is people who love the gameplay aren't really going to let graphics sway them from buying even if they aren't super impressed with the graphic update.  I am passing this year and I'll just keep hoping they figure out a way to add to the franchise immersion.

I don't see much difference and without carry over saves I won't be purchasing the show 21 because I don't own a ps5.

The reason to by show 21 is for the create-a-stadium feature. That's the advantage of a ps5. There is word sometime in the future a new college football game will be available for the ps5. That would probably get me to purchase a ps5.

The good news is mlbts 20 is a great game and I'm perfectly happy to continue my franchise there.

If you guys think FIFA and NBA 2k look drastically different, it only has to do with the lighting.  FIFA textures are essentially the same.  The only difference made was the lighting and upgrades with how everything looked in HDR.  2K I’ll admit made some updates to the faces (and more as the year has gone on), but again most of the graphical updates have everything to do with the lighting and how it impacts how everything looks.  The models and more textures are the same (just now at 4K HDR), although I do expect them to continue to improve over the next few years.

The Show’s problem isn’t lighting since that’s all been fixed and overall the game looks visually better.  The Show’s problem is the player models have looked outdated for 3-4 years now.  The skin textures are clay-like and other than the new face scans from the last two years, the models look washed out and unrealistic.  Now like someone said, last gen SDS focused more on tweaking the gameplay/physics so we didn’t see major model updates until 2-3 years later and I expect the same here.  But the atmosphere and lighting is definitely is improved from what I saw in 20 on PS4 pro and will hopefully improve going forward (especially once things aren’t COVID impacted).

Fifa had big upgrades in a lot of graphical areas not only lightining. In the crowd, pitch texture(vastly improved) and a few top caliber players such as Messi, Alisson, Cavani and Joao Felix (they have fully 3d hair in next gen) are a showcase from whats coming in the future.

Also good to mention the LOD system (level of detail on far cameras) are vastly improved too, and since soccer is a game where u see the game from far away 98% of the time it makes it look a lot better since players are more recognazible.

Animations were bumbped up too, id say about 10-15% more transitional animations than old gen wich makes the game feel a lot smoother.

All in all I think it was a very solid upgrade from old gen, specially considering that u didnt need to buy next gen (dual entlitement).

said all that, the core gameplay still stucks, problaby worst fifa ive played ever. LMAO

I think it looks great in the video but I also thought mlbts20 looked and played great which is why I'm going to continue playing it since I can continue my carry over franchise.

What I see is not much difference between the ps4 and the ps5. Certainly the upgrade from ps4 to ps5 is not as big as from ps3 to ps4. I bought a ps4 specifically to play the show and it was well worth the money. The only reason to do that for ps5 would be to get the create-a-stadium feature but that's not enough to get me to spend for a ps5 just to get that feature.

Someone mentioned the LOD (Level of Detail) and I will say that I was a little disappointed when the camera panned to the crowd on a foul ball and I could still see the crowd textures popping in as the camera got closer. It's obvious because there is a defined line.....say 100ft from the camera for example. Everyone 100ft and closer get higher res textures and poly counts and every beyond 100ft are lower res. As the camera pans and apparently moves closer, this line appears to move with it and you can see the textures popping in an out.

This is not a huge deal and is necessary for games to save resources to play smoothly but I was hoping it would be less in NextGen. FWIW I see this in Madden on field goals as the camera moves toward the goal post in the air, the crowd behind them textures pop to higher res. It's minor but immersion killing sometimes.

You had to buy the Jackie Robinson edition to get early access. Otherwise the regular edition releases on the 20th
