2024 Chicago Cubs WS Game 1

    Game Result:
    Ranger-5
    Cubs-3

Cubs lose homefield advantage in extras

The Rangers out hit the Cubs 15/4 but somehow, the Cubs were in it until the end. Both teams scored in the 9th inning to bring the score to 3-3 in extras.

In that 10th frame, with two outs, Cody Bellinger made a massive mistake. Ezequiel Duran was the batter for the Rangers and was facing Julian Merriweather who looked poised to go 3 up 3 down after he was called in to pitch the 10th. That obviously wasn't going to the case however as Duran hit a sinking line drive into center field. The mistake Bellinger made was diving for the ball that turned a probable single into an infield the park homerun that gave the Rangers the 4-3 lead. They scored another to make it 5-3 while the Cubs failed to score in the bottom half of the inning to let the Rangers take homefield advantage and more importantly game one, 5-3.

I couldn't achieve the same results as the real life Amazings. Just missed out on October baseball. Lindor and Nimmo and Starling had great years but I must have tried too hard with Polar Bear Pete. I shouldn't have tried to hit 500 homers wth him. But it was my pitching that ultimately did me in. Which was disappointing because that is usually my strong point and where I find the most joy and satisfaction in the Show. In hindsight I wish I had traded Alonso for more pitching depth .

Final weekend of regular season holds anxiety for Cards and their fans

The Cardinals (82-77) will enter the final weekend of the regular season filled with hope and anxiety. The Cardinals hold a 2 game lead over the Reds for the final wildcard spot in the National League. The Cardinals will be on the road in Pittsburgh while the Reds will be in Baltimore.

This has been a disappointing season following their run to the World Series last year. The Cardinals just never could find their footing this season, missed big time at the trade deadline, and injuries have put guys in spots they are not comfortable with.

Still despite the lackluster performance over 159 games, the Cardinals do have the chance to get back to the postseason if they can take care of business in Pittsburgh. Anything other than being swept should get the Cardinals back to October.

Looking elsewhere in the majors, the American League has seeding battles taking place and the Yankees are trying to hang on for dear life and clinch the AL East under first year manager Kevin Cash. The Yankees held a 5 game lead with about 8 to play and now find themselves a single game up on the Red Sox entering the final weekend.

The Guardians trail the Rangers by a single game for the best record in the American League. The Astros, Mariners and Royals all have identical records battling for the wildcard seedings.

In the National League, the Phillies earned the best record while the Cubs and Dodgers are battling for the 2nd bye. The Braves have secured the top wildcard spot and will host the Diamondbacks who have the 2nd wildcard spot. The Cards and Reds as mentioned are battling for the 3rd and final spot.

The final three days should be interesting.

Cardinals sweep Pirates to earn postseason berth

The Cardinals (85-77) swept the Pirates and now will play October baseball as they look to defend their National League Pennant.

It wasn't the best of seasons, but the Cardinals at least salvaged something out of it and will make their 3rd straight trip to the postseason. The Cardinals will be the 3rd wildcard and will face the Cubs in the Wildcard Series. The Cubs dominated the Cardinals in the regular season.

The Diamondbacks will be at the Braves and the Phillies and Dodgers await their opponents in the NLDS.

The American League saw the Rangers and Guardians get byes to the ALDS. The Mariners will face the Yankees in one wildcard series while the Royals will host the Astros.

2024 Chicago Cubs World Series Game 2

            Game Result:
            Cubs-4
            Rangers-1

Imanaga's second straight complete game helps Cubs even series

Shota Imanaga has been everything the Cubs hoped he would be when they signed him from Japan. His last playoff appearance was a perfect game against Atlanta in game two of that series. He wasn't perfect against the Rangers but he did have a perfect inning. That came in the 8th inning when Shota completed an immaculate inning as he struck out Jonah Heim, Nathaniel Lowe and Ezequiel Duran nine consecutive strikes. He also completed the complete game despite a scare in the ninth inning.

How did we get there though? Well the game saw Imanaga (NL Rookie of the year) face off with Nathan Eovaldi (this years AL Cy Young winner). It was Eovaldi's team who took the early lead on a rare Nathaniel Lowe triple (10 in career/1 this year) that knocked in Marcus Semien.

The Cubs did get that run back however and one more in the fourth innings when Josh Naylor took a slide step center cut fast ball 392 feet over the left center field wall to also score Cody Bellinger who had singled earlier in the inning.

The next Cubs run came off of Eovaldi as well and also came via the homerun. That one was off the bat of Seiya Suzuki (3rd) in the sixth inning to at the time bring the score to 3-1. That would chase Eovaldi from the game while Imanaga was still flourishing. Christopher Morel also added an RBI in the same inning off of relief pitcher, Dane Dunning as he beat out the Rangers double play attempt that let Patrick Wisdom score to make it, 4-1.

That score held out for the remainder but the Rangers did threaten in the 9th. Evan Carter who has been a thorn in the Cubs side (4-6 game one/2-4 game two) led off the inning with a single. Then, after Leody Taveras struck out, Corey Seager also singled to give the Rangers two on with just one out.

The out total would be increased with the next batter as Adolis Garcia hit his third deep flyout of the game. Then, with Carl Edwards JR ready to come into the game, the Cubs decided to leave Imanga out there. It almost came back to hurt them as the next batter, Josh Jung hit a single into rightfield but that strong arm of Seiya Suzuki came back firing as he threw a laser to homeplate that reached its destination just in time to allow Gomes to tag out Evan Carter to end the game.

After a day off, the series will shift to Arlington where the Cubs will have to win atleast one game to get the series back to Chicago. If they sweep the Rangers at home, they would take the series on enemy turf.

Jordan Wicks will take the mound for the Cubs while Jon Gray is slated to get the ball for the Rangers.

A disappointing season comes to a disappointing end

The Cardinals 2026 season came to an end Thursday night as the Cardinals lost to the Cubs in the National League Wildcard Series in two games. Seems fitting for a season full of disappointment from players on the field, to managers in the dugout, to personnel in the front offices.

Game 1 on Wednesday was about as heartbreaking, albeit fitting, of a way to lose a ballgame. The Cardinals fell behind the Cubs 3-0 as the Cubs used timely hits to push across a run in the first and two in the 3rd to take a 3-0 lead. Jordan Walker though, would tie the game in the 6th with a 3 run homerun. The Cardinals would take the lead in the 9th when Brendan Donovan drove home Victor Scott who pinch ran for Dylan Carlson. Up 4-3 in the bottom of the 9th, the Cardinals would turn to Edwin Diaz, their "prize" acquistion at the deadline, only to watch him yet again blow a lead and let the Cubs tie it at 4. The game would go to the 16th inning, despite both teams having ample chances to win the game sooner, and with 2 on and 1 out, Cody Bellinger would hit a groundball that Brendan Donovan took two steps to his left, grabbed and threw the ball to 2nd to start the 4-6-3 inning ending double play, only to watch the ball sail over the head of Tommy Edman into left field allowing Nico Hoerner to score the game winning run.

Game 2 on Thursday wasn't much better. After going up 3-0 heading to the bottom of the 5th, Walker Buehler would do what he did most of the summer and just implode, allowing back to back homeruns and leaving with a man on and no one out. John King, who had been argubly the most consistent arm in the bullpen, would just fall apart giving up 3 runs, 2 on a homerun by Cody Bellinger, as the Cubs would use a 6 run 5th to take a 6-3 lead. The Cubs added one in the 8th and the Cards pushed one across in the 9th to make it somewhat interesting, but that would be it. The Cubs win the game. The Cubs win the series. The Cardinals go home trying to understand what the hell happened to a season filled with so much potential and such high aspirations.

If there is any silver lining to losing to the Cubs, is that they would go on to win the World Series, defeating the Houston Astros in 7 games.

The Cardinals will lick their wounds and head to the offseason trying to find that formula that leads them back to the World Series in search for their 12th World Series Championship.

              2026 Season Wrap Up

Congratulations to the Chicago Cubs who beat the Houston Astros in 7 games to win the World Series and prevent the Astros from winning back to back championships.

Rangers retake series lead with power surge

The Texas Rangers hit four balls out of Globe Life field in game three of the 2024 World Series to take the series lead, 2-1. The homers came off of the bats of Corey Seager, Josh Jung and Adolis Garcia. Yes thats right, thats only three names so one of them hit two. Who was that? Well Corey Seager of course. He hit a homerun in both the 4th inning and the 8th inning as the Rangers powerbats overwhelmed Jordan Wicks and his relievers as the Rangers took game two, 7-2.

The Cubs only runs came off of the long ball as well, a 5th inning two run shot from Cody Bellinger, his 7th of the postseason.

The Cubs will look to even the series again in game four.

World Series becomes best of three with Cubs victory

The Cubs once again have tied the World Series after a game four victory to make it 2-2. The Cubs returned the favor in game four as they hit three homeruns with one of their players hitting two in the game. Was that player Patrick Wisdom? No although he did have one of the three, the player with two would be a surprise to many.

That player was Nico Hoerner who homered in the sixth and eighth innings for his second and third of the post season.

The Rangers again got to the Carl Edwards JR in the ninth but failed to complete the comeback as he secured the save.

The Cubs will look to take momentum in game 5.

Cardinals re-sign Dylan Carlson to 3 year deal

The Cardinals were able to sign one of their exclusive free agent targets with OF Dylan Carlson signing a 3 year $30MM deal with a player option for the final season.

Carlson was easily the best offensive weapon for the Cardinals in 2026 hitting .287 with 20 homeruns and 67 RBIs despite being moved all around the lineup. He flourished the most hitting 7th in the lineup and tentatively that is where he is projected to be.

The other primary targets for the Cardinals with exclusive free agents is LHP Garrett Crochet and RHP Jack Flaherty, although there is a strong possibility that both will want to test the open market.

Cardinals hire Stephen Vogt as pitching coach

Cardinals pitching coach last year, Marty Adams, decided to retire after what could only be described as a poor year for the Cardinals pitching staff. With that, the Cardinals will turn to Stephen Vogt as their pitching coach. Vogt a former catcher and manager of the Guardians, will bring that experience to what could be a fairly young pitching staff for the Cardinals in 2027.

2024 Chicago Cubs World Series Game 5

                      Game Result
                      Cubs-3
                      Rangers-1

                      Cubs lead series 3-2

Cubs head home with 3-2 series lead

The Cubs broke the streak and became the first team to win back to back games in the 2024 World Series. Their 3-1 victory has them just one game away from their second World Series title in nine years.

Javier Assad started the game for the Cubbies and had a much better outing then his last post season appearance (4.1 IP 7 H 4 R in game 5 VS Atlanta). In today's game, Assad pitched into the 6th inning while he gave up five hits but only one run while he struck out four. His counter part, Andrew Heaney wasn't bad either (5.0/6 H/2 R/2 SO) but the Rangers offense couldn't overcome those two runs gave up as they scored just that single run again Assad. Drew Smyly, Keegan Thompson, Yency Almonte and Julian Merryweather all pitched for the Cubbies and out of the 3.2 innings, they gave up just one hit.

As soon as the game started, it looked like the Cubs were going to be all over Heaney. The first two batters, Nico Hoerner and Seiya Suzuki singled and then Cody Bellinger hit a rocket to RF that Adolis Garcia had to sacrifice his body by running into the wall to catch. That was enough to score Hoerner who had gone to third on Suzuki's single. Heaney settled down after that however and that was the only run the Cubs could muster.

The Cubs had a near identical start to the second inning with back to back hits to start the inning from Josh Naylor (double) and Yan Gomes (single) but Heaney again locked in and didn't even allow a single run to score.

The next score didn't come until fifth inning when both teams would score a single run. Ian Happ was the scorer for the Cubs. He reached after Heaney hit him with a slider. He then moved to second on a passed ball and later scored on a Seiya Suzuki single that fell just inside the line in left field.

Marcus Semien got the Rangers on the board in the bottom half of the innings to bring the score to 2-1. The Cubbies added the final run of the game when Patrick Wisdom took Kirby Yates deep. The homer gave him one in each of the last two games.

Game six could see the Cubs crowned as champions. The pitching matchup is set to be ACE vs. ACE with the Cubs Justin Steele taking on Jacob DeGrom. The matchup also sees the calendar switch to Novemeber.

2024 Chicago Cubs World Series Game 6

                        Game Result
                        Rangers-6
                        Cubs-5

Ranges win in dramatic fashion to force game 7

There isn't a better phrase in sports than Game 7. That is unless you are the team that had an opportunity to avoid the winners take all final of the series.

Game six saw Justin Steele take on Jacob DeGrom. Neither would factor into the decision of the game. DeGrom's team would get out to an early lead that at the time looked almost unbeatable with him on the mound.

The Rangers got out to a 4-0 lead thanks to homeruns by Corey Seager and Josh Jung (he wasn't done yet).

Seager's came in the third inning and plated three thanks to a Nathaniel Lowe double to leadoff the inning and a Leody Taveras walk with two outs. After those two were on base, Seager took a inside slider from Steele over the fence in right field to give the Rangers the early 3-0 lead

Jung's came in the next inning as he led the 4th inning off with a solo shot, 4-0.

The Cubs fought back and took a lead into the eighth inning, 5-4. In that inning, Ezequiel Duran hit an RBI single off of Hector Nerris.

Neither team was able to score again in regulation and the game went into extras.

In was in those extra innings (12) that Josh Jung struck again as he hit a solo shot off of Daniel Palencia to help the Rangers take the 6-5 lead. The Cubs were then shut down by Jose Leclerc as the Rangers held off their elimination to force a deciding game 7.

Shota Imanaga is set to face Natan Eovaldi again in the final game of the 2024 season. Imanaga won the first game between the two in game two of this series.

Well my offseason got all screwed up and I only have myself to blame. I accidentally simmed ahead to a date I was looking at (arbitration hearing dates) and lost most of the offseason (week of November, all December and January, and part of February). I thought about starting over from the latest save point, but I saw signings and trades and felt like doing so would only make the screw up that much worse as I would be undoing things the CPU did simply because I messed up.

But I wasn't able to explore roster moves or make roster moves I planned. I missed out on trying to re-sign Jack Flaherty (Pirates), Garrett Crochet (Red Sox) and even Tommy Edman (Padres). I missed on exploring trades for the likes Nolan Arenado, Willson Contreras, and Walker Buehler. My team is so unbalanced its not funny and guys are blocked that shouldn't be and I have players I truly don't want simply because I had to fill roster spots.

I tried playing thru Spring Training but after 3 games, quick managed to the regular season because I have no connection with this team. I'm at Opening Day against the Nationals trying to see if something clicks, but I honestly may end up quick managing a majority of the season just to get thru it while still having an input on games and roster moves over the season.

All this wind out of the sails feelings simply because I wasn't paying attention.

                          So frustrating
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Countryboy even tho you are the GM and manager of the Cardinals, you are also essentially the owner too so I like your plan to quick manage your way thru the season. If you aren't as successful as you normally are by playing every inning of every game, as ''owner'' , you could view it as firing the gm for having an inattentive off-season that lead failing to meet ownership expectations. Of course, this only works if you don't actually really get fired from St. Louis. Which by the way, I've been meaning to ask, have you ever been fired in any of your Cardinals franchises?

No but I also turn off GM firings because I have no desire to play as any other team.

Well then, there you have it. Maybe Countryboy the Cardinal owner, is going to have to have a talk with his general manager about focusing more during the off-season. Sounds like he may have been preoccupied too much with Louisville football to give the off-season his hundred percent attention.
