    21 vs 23 vs 24?

    The last edition of the game I bought was 21 for PS5. After reading through the forums, I’m trying to figure out the major differences between these three versions and whether or not it’s time to upgrade.

    I’m primarily and franchise player, and I understand that the mode hasn’t gotten any attention. What about the on field aspect of the game? Which would you prefer?

    Should I just stick with 21, upgrade to 23 for $30, or go with the new upgrade to 24 for $70?

      Franchise mode has actually gotten several updates since '21:

      * new draft that includes slotted value ('23)
      * new scouting ('23)
      * draft lottery ('23)
      * Prospect Promotion Incentive ('24)
      * Awards history listed on players card
      * Top Prospect Breakdown by Top 100, Top 20 Organizational, Top Positional Players ('24)
      * Ability to trade arbitration and contract renewable players in offseason ('24)

      Besides that, presentation (minus not having MLB Network) and on the field gameplay is far superior in '24 versus '21 and is better than '23. Plus you have updated lighting as well as better looking caps/faces for all players.

      If you're going to upgrade, I'd suggest going with '24. If not, then stick with '21.

      I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

      I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

        This is such silly advice unless OP is on a tight budget and his main consideration is how to save the most money.

        However, he’s asking about a baseball game and presumably hes interested in getting the best one.

        Despite the hive mind that SDS sucks and never improves anything, MLB 24 is objectively an improvement over MLB 23, even if it doesn’t have as many franchise improvements as everyone would like.

        But in addition to the list of improvements countryboy gave, the hair physics and way better face models, has players you start with and that you draft in subsequent years looking much better than in v23 (and even more so than in v21)

          Custom game entry is also new for v24 if you like to jump in and out of quick partial games.

          The ticker is also better/more immersive in v24 with some new info on prospects and trade block players.

              Silly advice is your opinion. If you actually look at bang for the buck 23 is the better option IMO.

              No need to attack calling things “silly”. You don’t know the OPs financial situation

                You'll get a variety of answers here no doubt. I loved '23, but '24 is a better game. Best of the bunch so far.

                  I think ‘21 is a very underrated version. I’ve never understood the hate it gets, other than Y2Y save removal.

                  ‘23 felt like an entirely different game. Huge step forward.

                  It’s early for ‘24. Player appearances are a dramatic and noticeable upgrade.

                    It was my opinion and I wasn’t attacking anyone.

                    Do you know OPs financial situation ? No, because he didn’t mention it, so we can probably assume it doesn’t play a huge role and he was only going to buy v23 if v24 had no franchise improvements.

                    Thus, with zero context, simply saying stick with v23 is a not entirely helpful opinion IMO and ignores the actual question and that there are improvements, which other people listed and was what he was looking for.

                    To be honest if you had mentioned the “bang for your buck” thing in your first post I would think that’s fine and a valid opinion.

                    This all being said, OP is still with v21, so he seemingly doesn’t mind waiting. If the cost differential/budget is a big factor, maybe wait until v24 has a sale ?

                      Re: 21 vs 23 vs 24?

                      I'm gonna give you a perspective nobody is gonna agree with just so you have it: I play entirely offline, I shut off EVERYthing from franchise to play a version of what we used to call Season Mode on the PS2, I control any transactions on all teams, and I think I've been playing sports games long enough that I just couldn't care less if fabric or facial hair looked more real. If I'm being honest, I can't think of anything more ridiculous than caring about things like that. It's not like we're talking about the difference between 25 or Genesis 16-bit graphics.

                      But each to their own. I wouldn't go any higher than 21 because there's a great community that still makes great rosters for 21.

                        Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers here. Just for clarification, financials aren't an issue. It's simply trying to figure out the value of each game and whether or not the extra money is worth the new edition or not. I appreciate the answer thus far.

                            Either way you can't go wrong. Just considering franchise, it's a huge difference of experience from MLBTS21 because of the new scheduling. Plus all of the minor leaguers are real right from the default roster. I *think* MLBTS21 still had fake Single A players if I remember correctly. Maybe the best thing to do is play the next 6 months with an inexpensive copy of MLBTS23, then by that time you can get fully up to date with an inexpensive copy of MLBTS24. Just something to ponder. Like I say, whichever way, you can't go wrong, in my opinion.
