Error after pausing DD games

I've had an error after pausing Play vs CPU games a couple of times. It happens after a lengthy pause. The game history including all stats are gone, not counted. I remember this happening often with last year's game also.

Other than never pausing for any length of time, is there a way to avoid this?

Both times I had tallied some important and difficult to achieve mission stats, played a 9 inning game, only to find out the game and stats didn't count.
