Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

Well, since I'm loaded with school and work until the release of MLB 10 (good thing too; helps me earn money to buy the game while keeping my mind off of it all the time), I guess I can post my end results here. I just got the game a few days into the new year, and ended my career as the first baseman for the Las Vegas 51s. I started out in Texas and was promptly promoted to AAA ball because of an injury to Chris Davis on opening day. I stayed the whole season but never went above .225 leading the team in strikeouts. During that time, I became a good defensive third baseman (Smoak came back down after Davis got better) and actually switched to the position in the off season.

In 2010, I was traded to Toronto with Derek Holland and continued playing third with the 51s. I was hitting .322 while leading in hits when I was called up to Toronto to play first base again. I didn't stay but a week and went 14-42 in a pathetic stay before being sent back down. I finished the season in Las Vegas at .314 with 10 HRs and 49 RBIs.

My last year was 2011 where I stayed in Las Vegas during the first part of the season, but found myself back in Toronto when Mark DeRosa tore up his leg. In 60 games I hit .243 with 5 HRs and 44 RBIs, but still found myself back in the desert after my time was done. That's about the last I've played with the mode.

      Here it is:

The following would completely fix RTTS, but what I'm about to suggest will not happen for years, if at all. Just dreaming, so bear with me:

-No Speed Skill Bar. Or at least start it high and fall gradually If you're a 20 year old Center Fielder, you should be fast and skinny. What sense does it make to start out slow and young, only to get faster with age??????? WHAT?

-Add a reflex skill bar. Start moderate and allow room for fall/gain/aging

      BOTTOM LINE:

-Skill points should NOT always start at the bottom and work up.

      For Example:

Wouldn't it be nice to see your pitch velocity decrease as time passes, forcing you to be a more precise pitcher (ie Greg Maddux, Randy Johnson, every other human being who has ever pitched, etc)

YOU COULD ARGUE that this type of 'overly-realistic' type of play would be too much to appeal to mainstream gamers... BUT wouldn't starting with some great (and realistic) attributes such as speed and endurance give you MORE freedom of advancement in the beginning as well as giving the 'Hardcore' MLB gamers a greater sense of realism in their player's 30's (and possibly 40's if you're sickly good.)

It would yield a more readily achievable and enjoyable minor league stint as well as a more interesting veteran aspect... and that's all i have to say about that.
I have said this also, there should be a set of attributes that are fundamental to being an A prospect. Good arm, speed, strength, ect. You do not get drafted as a center fielder with 30-40 speed. if you are fast, guess what you are fast. A perfect example is my catcher, of course i started off slow but by my 9th year I could steal a base easily and I was 6'2" and as fat as I could be. lol. They should have a few attributes that are just raw talents. And the developmental attrubutes should have more affect. Take speed for example, base running ability, reaction time, and aggressiveness should have to be worked on to turn your fast player into a seasoned vet on the bases.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

        Hey everyone.

I'm new to the forum. I found out about this site by googling. I'm from Dominican Republic and a huge fan of the MLB The Show series. I played it on PS2, but I'll soon get in to PS3.

I have my player under the Yankees farm system.

        Dax Ortiz
        Pos.: 3B
        Weight: 225 lbs
        Age: 20
        Bat: Switch
        Throws: Right
        Stance: Ken Griffey Jr.
        Current Level: AAA
        Org. Rank: 2 of 4
        League Rank: 24 of 42

My AVG is .280, OBP .316 (ugly, I know), SLG .339. My current rating is overall C with a A potential. My player has 1 year left in his contract with the Yankees.

I was wondering if any of you can give me some tips as to how increase my player's rating, especially hitting. I've never batted more than 6hrs per season and my RBIs have never gone over 65. The rating is in the 50's on both contact and power. My duration is over the 70's.

Thanks! I've noticed that when I swing early I get the good hits. I have another question, where can I get a list of the names data base? I wanna see if the PA mentions my name.

                3rd Base Coach

Something I have not figured out, is when batting and I'm told to look at 3rd base coach for signal, how to look at him? Tried everything I can think of, RS, LS, buttons and what not. Nothing works. The sticks do work for panning around when in the field, but I find no way to look at the coach when batting.

jfeek, the game does that automatically. it will go to a cut scene of sorts showing him giving signals. I can tell you most of the time it is a hit and run.

thanks for the info. Never seen that happen, and maybe becasue I hit from catcher view. But I have figured out its always hit and run, and also get screwed on it most the time as the pitch is in the dirt! But such is life in bb. I now just put my pci at its lowest, and last time I managed to scrub it to 3rd and the guy advanced to 2nd. What view do you use?

I also find running in RTTS most bewildering. Using Default most the time I am ok, seems you push the RS in the perspective direction you want to run. Using the Classic I have no clue. Tried Classis once and was on first, guy got a clean shot single to the alley and I couldn't move my runner at all. He just stood there about 15 feet from first. LOL Tried the stick, the buttons, he did nothing but stand there!

Hmmm, very little diff between catcher and wide, I wonder why you see those cut scenes and I don't.

Can you shed any light on the running thing? they seem to have so little documentation on this game. Even the Strategy Guide within a game, doesn't elaborate much on running. They seem to assume everybody knows.

But in any event, I am getting a big kick out of RTTS. Its really fun to actually play first base again, as I did in pee wees, grade school and high school. And to be a runner on the bases etc. Its really a lot of fun.

This threw me for a loop for a while too . . .

The cut scene IS the part where they show the coach and what each sign means. THAT is when you "read" his signs and get the call. I kept waiting for some scene after that but it never came . . . and that's why.

So just watch him during this little sequence, and you'll get his call.

Hmmm, ok, I think I get what you are saying, but where in that cutscene is his call? As I recall, it just shows him repeatedly giving each sign, sort of a demo of the signs What am I missing? It seems to be a repeated loop of all the signs, top of the hat, belt, swipe the thighs etc. I will try too look closer, but what I have seen seems to be a demo of what each sign is, not what the call is? I appreciate the interchange though, fun to talk to someone else enjoying the RTTS. Maybe your a Vet, advising a Rookie

The call is the sign he does three times, he'll rub his leg for a steal, tap his cap for hit and run. Those are the most common, you can just work it out depending on the situation; If you are batting it's going to be hit and run, if you are on base it's steal.

I haven't seen the bunt sign (something to do with the belt) and only saw the hands across the chest (swing for the fences) in the All-Star games.

Sounds like my pitcher in AA. I have gone through 4 seasons and was called up to MLB Baltimore after a while. I was ace pitcher and eventually have become number one starting pitcher in MLB Few seasons later signed a 6 year 133 million dollar deal. Worked out well
