Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
I had a great spring with the Marlins in my second year. I hit over 350, had 4 hrs and my RBIs were somewhere in the 'teens.' But I somehow didn't make the club, despite there being no one ahead of me at LF. Oh well, I wasn't overly disappointed to go play in AAA.
I've had an awesome start to the season. In 3 games I'm hitting something like 840 with a homer and 7 RBIs. Training points up the wazzo so far

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
I adjusted the points I needed to hit my goals first, and then saved up my points to add two more pitches as soon as I was able to.Hey, for all the pitchers out there, I have a question for you guys. How long before you guys added another pitch to your arsenal? Right now, I'm in my second year as the number 1 SP for the Oriole's AAA team (My AA team won the championship the first year). Before I was hesitant to add a fourth pitch because I wanted to hone my first three pitches before I added my fourth one. I'm thinking if I'm good enough in AAA I may be called up at September or make it to the majors at the end of this year. If so, I would rather wait until I get to the bigs before I add my fourth.
So what did you guys do? Oh and which pitch you guys think I should add? Right now I have a 4-seamer, curveball, and changeup.
And one more question. As I said before right now I'm in my second year. How come when I press R1 to check my stamina and stuff, it still says I'm a rookie?

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
So, in season 4 with both of my RTTS's, and both have made the bigs, although I doubt my catcher will be staying there for long.
As for my pitcher, finished my first partial season in the bigs with a 6-4 record and a 2.88 ERA (Padres aren't giving me any run support). I finished the season on a high note though, throwing a CG shut out against LA. After ST, I was named #1 starter, despite the fact that both Peavy and CY have better stats than me, but opening day against the Dodgers, I went 8 innings, giving up 1 run, and getting the win (Peavy, eat your heart out).Through music, you can live forever...TEAMS: San Diego Chargers, San Diego Padres, Notre Dame Fighting IrishComment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
When you are playing your RTTS, does the computer bunt more than it should? I've seen everyone bunt from sluggers to the obvious pitchers, even in the All-Star game. It's a little annoying and seems to have happened since the patch, but I may just be crazy.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
Yes! I was going to mention this and forgot. If you are playing your fielding chances you will see a TON of bunts.
Not sure what it's like for pitchers, but for my 1B I'm constantly watching bunts (a very large prtion of which are perfectly placed down the 3rd baseline) get put down.Comment

Rick Vaughn hasn't seen many... only the occasional sacrifice bunt situation or when they feel it's appropriate to use.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
the only bunts I see is the pitcher bunting almost every time after I reach first base. The pitcher is next in the batting line up after me. Which almost puts me automatically at second base if I get to first base in the first place...lolSan Francisco 49ers

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
Yes, I was going to mention this also. I play 3B and bunts are ridiculous and most of them are for singles. They place them perfectly down the third base line and the catcher has all he can do just to get to the damn thing. They bunt in the most ridiculous counts/situations also. I have seen multiple 2 strike bunts with runners on and 2 outs.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
Ok, I'll make this short.
As it turns out, I didn't get traded from the Rockies and instead end up ending the season with them. I finished with a .280 Avg which isn't bad, but isn't horrible. Of course I get an immediate offer from the Rockies during the offseason for 1.2 M for 3 years but as a MLB Bench player. I still need to hone some of my stats and I would much rather start in AAA than be a utility guy in MLB. I think I'm not going to accept the deal and make the ball club only sign me for 390K for 1 year. This way it will hopefully force another trade this year.
I will be going into the 3rd season. My contact is around 70's, power around 55's. My fielding still needs some work.PSN: guitarchitect7

I would add something hard to your pitches, since you have a fastball and then a change and curve.Hey, for all the pitchers out there, I have a question for you guys. I would say a Splitter would be top on my list. Otherwise a 2 seam, cutter or sinker could work as well.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
So being a big fan of RTTS I picked up 09 just in the hopes they improved the unpredictability of career mode. Every career I started last season followed pretty much the same pattern. Very little movement between minor systems unless you really went on a prolonged slump, lousy contract negotiations where even if you were coming off a hall of fame season your current club would usually be the highest bidder and there were never any trades unless you demanded one. I may have just had bad experiences but I played through 3 distinct careers and they all seemed to follow the same pattern. So far it seems like 09 is better in that regard<O
</O
<O
Rather than start a new thread I figured I’d share here.<O
</O
<O
</O
I created a LF/3B with designs on eventually making a solid all around hitter. Thrown into the draft I was picked up by the LA Dodgers with hopes of being the eventual replacement for Manny the Ram.
<O
</O
<O
Spring Training was ugly. I was floating awful close to .100 in the first week and by the midway point of the Spring I still hadn’t crossed the "Mendoza"<ST1
line. Crash <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com</st1:City><ST1
Davis</ST1
was right about the ugly junk they throw in the show and I wasn’t ready. Hitting deep in the order with no support either side didn’t help either. The last few weeks I got fortunate with some better hitting situations and eventually brought the average up to a respectable .250 with 2 HRs and 21 RBIs for the month. I was assigned to a bench role with the AA affiliate.<O
<O
Double A, now I could hit okay there. Not a lot of power but some decent gap shots. The first few series I was getting mop up duty late innings and pitcher replacement. Despite having no defensive skills I was slotted in at Third Base and given a regular job after 3 series. Late May as my second performance cycle was ending I was hitting the ball well batting .345 with 1 HR and 12 RBI in 97 at bats. A Relief Pitcher in LA went down and the eventual space on the AAA roster was filled by me. Less than a month into my career I had already been promoted.
<O
</O
<O
</O
…But that also kind of sucked because once again I went from every day player to a bench role. First game up I slapped an RBI single in the 7th and was given the start in LF for the next game. I went 3 for 5 with 2 HRs, both hit off high fastballs and 4 RBIs. I was wowing them in <st1:City w:st="on"><ST1
Albuquerque</st1:City>
<st1:City w:st="on"></ST1
</st1:City>
<O
</O
Of course I spent the next few weeks on the bench getting very little hitting opportunities and secretly hoping that I’d get pushed back to AA sooner rather than later. In very limited appearances though I was really doing well. While I hadn’t really improved on my RBIs or HRs, I was getting brought in for 1 at bat every few games and was getting on base. Mid June I was told I was getting the starting job in LF….which of course led to a terrific 7 game slump where I had all of 4 hits with only 2 of those getting out of the infield.<O
</O
<O
</O
Last game before the Allstar break and a fixture in the Isotopes lineup I started to find my timing and was doing a dance with .300. I went out and had an awesome game. 2 for 5 with 5 RBIs including the winner in the bottom of the ninth on a Sac Fly. I was feeling pretty good about myself when this message popped up:

</O
Los Angeles Dodgers trade LF <NAME redacted>to Cleveland Indians for SP Cliff Lee
<O
EPIC! I got traded for the reigning AL Cy Young winner.<O

Sadly getting assigned to Columbus meant joining a team who was 18 games out of First.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
I can't walk to save my life in my rtts career. Any tips?
I play HOF default, everything off. i.e strike zone, guess pitch etc..
I'm hitting around .250 with 4 homers and 11 RBI in about 15 games at AA but I can't seem to complete the walk goals.
I played the entire spring training and walked once. ugghh..Originally posted by Anthony BourdainThe celebrity chef culture is a remarkable and admittedly annoying phenomenon. Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
Well I know I haven't posted in a while but I had some other things I had to do. So I finally picked up where I left off. Immediately went to batting practice. Then got promoted and immediately went to batting practice. For a pitcher I sure spent alot of time in the cage. lol.
Well in AAA they definitely hit better and it showed. I was getting rocked. They had me coming in from the pen so I had to get that mindset back. In any case this squad sucks worse than the AA counterpart. We didn't make the playoffs and offseason was depressing. Next season comes around and they didn't even give me a call up on the 40 man. So I just lounged around on the couch and the next thing I know it's April and I'm starting for the AAA Portland Beavers. First outing was a gem as I went 7 with a handful of hits and strikeouts and no runs. Don't know how long I'll labor in AAA till I get a call up but I'll just have to put my work in. Just glad to be starting again and not have to work out of the pen.
Didn't appreciate the comment from I believe Rex about "Talk about a generation gap. The guy on the mound is over twice the age of the hitter" lol. Just for that I went at them hitters with some good pitching. Till these old arms ran outta gas in the 8th inning. lolComment
