Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

Since we've all been playing this for awhile, I'm curious to know what's everyone's biggest issues with RTTS? What would you wish would change?

Obviously the baserunning controls is at the top of the list.

I made the starting lineup for the Brewers on opening day of 2011

Here's my dynasty page post on it:

I got a hit in my first MLB at-bat too, a RBI single to right off of Roy Oswalt

Great vids, especially the double-play one.

why the hell are the NEW baserunning conTrols in RTTS different from the NEW baserunning controls in exhibition and all other modes? The goals you have to meet shouldn't be the main factor for your player advancing or being held back...

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

So my guy is an 18yo left fielder for the Mets, currently residing in AA.

He's on first base. The guy batting after me rips a ball over the first baseman's head and down the line for seemingly a double. What does my guy do? He runs back to first base (I had the left stick up as in ADVANCE), it takes him a good three seconds to realize he's an idiot and then starts trucking his slow, white arse to second. He barely beats the tag.

Now when I started this little prodigy, I didn't think to put any points into his base running skills. I guess I figured by the time he was 18 and playing in the minors, he would know WHEN TO RUN BACK TO FIRST AND WHEN TO RUN TO SECOND!

My question is, is this a bug in the game or is it because my BR skills are like 17? I had the same thing happen to me on 2nd. The guy ran back to second on a ball in the gap. Then after pausing for reflection, ran to third and was tagged out. What should have been a score turned into an out.

            GRRRRRRRR!!!!!

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread

I just started my third season of RTTS. My guy is a shortstop - 1st season spent the whole year in AA and ended up hitting 318 with a stint on the 60day DL.

Second season I start on the AAA roster as a backup. After a month, they name me the starter and I had decent stats although nothing spectacular. I hit 284 I think with about 20 doubles, 20 SBs and around 40RBIs and runs and about a 980 fielding %. At the end of the 2nd season I was the 2nd ranked SS in the organization and thought I might get added to the 40 man.

Start the 3rd season, and all of the sudden I'm back at AA! What the heck? The only SS in AAA has an overall way lower than my guy and the major league SS's aren't all that great either (playing in San Diego's organization).

Why am I back to AA now? Anyone else have something like this happen to them?

This has been very confusing for me. I might be wrong but here is what I think is happening. When the ball is hit over your head when you are on base, your player turns to look at where the ball is going. When this happens the controls are reversed. Because your guy is facing the outfield, you have to push the analog stick to the left for him to go forward. It just depends on the way he is facing. This is what I have been doing and my guy has not ran in the wrong direction since. I might be wrong and I have just been lucky though. Give it a try and see if it helps.

This could be the case. If it is, it's ridiculous.

Nothing pisses me off more than a game that comes so close to greatness but utterly fails in seemingly simple ways.

It is ridiculous but it did not take long for me to get used to. Is there an option in the game to change the baserunning to the standard instead of the RTTS?

I believe baserunning in RTTS is limited to one option only. The trick with running is to always point the L3 to the base you're headed to. It gets really tricky when the camera angle changes and you will inevitably mess up once in a while. I've been doing alright with the controls; but sometimes my triples are limited to doubles, or my doubles are limited to singles.

Edit: my player just entered the 2nd round of the playoffs in AAA with the SWB Yankees. I batted .320 on the year, with 5 HR's, 50 RBI's, and 29 SB's. I asked for a contract extension and the organization said yes! We'll see what happens in 2011 and throughout the playoffs.

I finally became the starter for my Brewers AA team last night, and in my first game as starter I hit my first homerun. While batting .290 at that point I was thrilled with a slight touch of arrogance.

SIgh....after my first homerun everything went pearshaped. I'm in the biggest slump ever, I don't swing at the pitches down the middle and swing at the pitches that is so far wide it's pathetic. I'm striking out 3-4 times a game and since my homerun game I'm only hitting .148! My overall average is now .254

I have no idea what has happened, I have numerous warnings from my manager as well. My goals are expecting me to hit 14 hits in 2 weeks, batting .300 for the next two weeks etc. How the hell am I suppose to do that while I'm in a slump like this...sigh. Can't the moron see I'm struggling and send me to more frequent batting practice sessions? I'll go to practice mode tonight before continuing my career.

At least I know it is possible to hit a HR every now and then with my poor attributes

I hit my first MLB homerun last night in the 4th game of the 2011 season. Here's a vid of it. I wish you could hear the announcers talking as it happened in game, they mentioned that it was my first career homer.
