I hate the "OBP higher than .380" and "walk 8 times in 6 series". You can fail those even if you're batting .360 considering the pitcher rarely walks you as is.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
A positive result is something like when your goal is to drive in a runner from second, but you draw a walk instead. You'll get 10 points or so because the result of the play was still positive, but you didn't reach the actual goal.

Meh - the one I always get is 993 fielding percentage in 7 weeks. I hardly ever make that goal. 1 error and you're screwed. And then I have to put 200 points into my fielding ability and each of my arm ratings, which leaves me no points for contact / power and other hitting ratings.
20 RBI's in 2 weeks is brutal though...haha so is the strikeout one.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
Well, I had one of those rare gaming moments yesterday, the kind that will stay with you for a long time.
I got MLB09 on release day, and from day one I began my RTTS Career as a non-roster invitee for the Padres. You can check out my player info here:
All of my nearly 1600 at bats (more if you could the 200 or so in two Spring Training seasons) were taken in either the Spring Training stadiums or the minor league parks. I haven't played one MLB09 game (Exhibition, Season, etc) in any of the MLB stadiums. Following Spring Training, 2012, I was finally told that I would be the starting second baseman for the Padres.
After all of those at-bats in the lesser parks, it was such a feeling of accomplishment to step up to the plate on Opening Day in Dodger Stadium to play one of our biggest rivals.
So yeah, I played plenty of games in past versions in the MLB ballparks, so it's not THAT big of a deal, but being able to resist the temptation to play an exhibition game in one of the MLB parks the past few weeks has been tough. Now I feel as though I've earned it...
Anyone else do something like this??Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
So i was finishing up my second season and i finished my AAA season going 10-7 with a 3.34 ERA. Not the most impressive stats but I did pitch pretty good. I thought i was done for the year but the A's organization had other plans, i got the call up on September 8th 2010 as a long relief man. To say i pitched horrible in my short time in the big leagues would be a understatement. It was bad, I didn't even look at my stats because i didn't want to see them. But after the season was over i got a offer from the A's for 5 years and a starting rotation spot on the big league club. So i'm going into spring training in the year 2011 with the hopes of winning a cy young and rookie of the year.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
First baseman Tyler Dodge (is that a baseball name or what? Either that or a car dealership in Texas) - after a steady rise through the Pirate's AA and AAA affiliates I get invited to spring training at the start of my 3rd season. I end up making the 40-man roster as a utility player behind starter Adam Laroche. I was considering requesting a change to 3rd base because Adam's ratings are pretty impressive but my fielding rating is low as I've focused most of my points into hitting for power. I decide to stick it out as a backup and begin to impress in the limited at bats I'm getting.
Two months into the season I ask for the starting job and lo and behold I actually get it. That's when everything just takes off for me. I hit my first HR at Wrigley field, hit back to back jacks at Coors Field (did they actually model the altitude?) and yesterday I hit my first grand slam at St. Louis. Though the Pirates are in last place my guy is tearing it up in the short time he's been a starter. Right now I'm batting an even .300 with 7 homeruns and like 40+ RBIs. I'm hopeful for a rookie of the year consideration. I posted some screen caps: (click to enlarge)
You've made it. Nice new duds.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
Hey all,
I'm having a ton of trouble stealing bases in RTTS, and I've seen a lot of people around here say that they've had good success with stealing, so... GIMME TIPS!
I'm in first year AA, with a speed of 68, and BR ability around 40 and aggressiveness around 20. I have 7 steals, but 18 caught stealings! And the third-base coach keeps calling for me to steal like every other time I get on base. Help!
What is the best way to get a good lead/jump and be successful? I usually take a one-step lead, then on first movement from the pitcher I hold the L stick to the right, and I always slide to the right side of the bag. Sometimes I go for a two-step lead, but I find he usually attempts a pickoff when I do this and I can't get back in time, or I run as soon as he moves but his throw goes to first and I'm hung out between first and second.
So please, for those that have success, give me some tips to improve my stealing.Comment

I usually try to read the pitcher first before stealing. I have less-than blinding speed at 39 or something like that, but I can swipe a base if I know the pitcher takes too long to get the plate.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
make sure you take a one step lead and then use R1 to lean towards the base you want to steal. That helps to give you a good jump. I'm averaging 40+ steals a year and about a 80% SB rate with 65-70 speed doing this.Hey all,

I've never failed the strikeout goal. The walk goals I work on but I usually fail but it's no biggie since you don't have to fulfill all the goal to make the coach happy. You need 2 out of 3 or 3 out of 5, more than 50%...Meh - the one I always get is 993 fielding percentage in 7 weeks. I hardly ever make that goal. 1 error and you're screwed. Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
So as I said in my last post, my player finally made it to "The Show" in 2012, and hit a single up the middle in his first at bat as captured here. I love this game.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
It's def all about the jump you can get. One way that I got myself sharp in getting jumps was to take my lead and lean back towards the base. I would then let go of the left stick when the pitcher started his delivery. It allowed me to practice timing the pithcer so when I was going to steal, my reaction time was that much better, which matters a lot since the plays @ 2nd are generally really closeHey all,

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
For stealing tips:
1) Always ALWAYS dive head first to the outside of the bag. This will greatly increase your chance of a steal.
2) I turned down the sliders for pickoffs ... it is cheating, but it helped me get the timing down a little better.
3) Do the R1 lean if you can, and try to run on pitchers with long moves to the plate, and on pitches you think will be off speed.
---------------------
I haven't played my RTTS in over a week, but I came back yesterday, and I am hooked again ... I now have over 200 hits in my first season (AA), lousy 100 training points. My hit streak is up over 40 games. I am #1 in average, hits, doubles, triples, rbis.
My guy is #2 SS in the organization, #1 in AA, but they refuse to move me up.
Stats:
Contact: 58 for both
Power: 40 for both (only 3 HRs)
Speed: 71 (40+ steals, but 25+ CS)
Fielding: Around 50 for all categories
So I ain't an all-star caliber yet, but I would think my stats are good enough to move me up, maybe put me on the 40-man.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
I was a utility player in AAA Brewers organization in my second year. Started off smoking hot, and I'm batting .389 at the moment. Though I'm slowly but surely hitting worse and worse every game and can see a slump coming from way back.
Last night, some good news. The starting CF for the Nashville Sounds got injured (what a ***)...and I will start untill he returns from DL. Hopefully I can make my couple of starts count to rake in as much training points as possible.
Though I still only have 1 HR in my RTTS career, in my first season in AA. Don't know if I'm too weak (RHC 51, LHC 54, RHP 40, LHP 39) or if it's only because I'm not timing well enough.
Pretty satisfied with my career up untill this point, hopefully a patch for the crash and burn bug will be available before I get to the bigs.
Stealing is way harder in AAA than in AA. Though I did see sliding head first hooking to the outside delivers waaaay better results.San Francisco 49ers
