I saw one of the most bizarre mistakes I've seen, and it was partly my fault. I was pitching and the batter ripped a pitch down the first base line. I though it was into right field, so I didn't move. Well, Overbay grabbed it on a dive, but instead of getting up and running to the bag himself, he threw it to me while I was still standing on the mound.

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
I am thinking about making a pitcher, can anyone give me tips on what pitches are best and what to work on the best?
I see the orange and blue bars when training... can someone explain these for me?
Thanks,Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
What about a sinker? It moves the opposite direction of a cutter I think and IMO is a more effective pitch than a 2seamer. It's one of my favorite pitches in the game and the curve is just a little too wild some times for my liking.I have the exact same 3 pitches and just completed my 3rd year with the Cubbies. I love those 3 pitches but am also wondering which 4th pitch to pick up.
My thoughts:
Slider - a bit too similar to my cutter. Would normally be a great pitch against lefties (I'm a lefty) but hitters rarely chase my pitches off the plate so I'm not sure if it'll be effective.
Curve - biggest variety when compared to my other 3 pitches. My only experience with the curve was when I played in franchise briefly. It didn't seem too effective at the time but maybe I wasn't using it correctly. If you get a curve, you absolutely need to power up it's control and be able to keep it low before using it much. A hanging curve seems to get crushed.
Running FB - not sure how effective it would be with two other fastballs already. I know my RTTS hitter has problems with running FBs but that doesn't mean the computer hitters are the same.
2-seam FB/Sinker - similar to the Running FB, not sure how effective it would be although I would really like another groundball type pitch.
Screwball - this pitch also messes up my RTTS hitter but it's action is probably too similar to the circle change.
I think I'm leaning towards a curve of some type for my 4th pitch. It gives movement I don't have currently. I might play around with the 12-6, regular, sweeping, and slurve to see which I like better. I'll probably just go with a regular curve as I don't have a down-and-in pitch to use against righties (down-and-away from lefties).Comment

The blue bars mean the skill is stabilized, the orange means it is decreasing.
As far as pitches go, I am a fan of 4 seam, circle change, and either a slurve 12-6 curve or sweeping curve (regular curveball I think is what it is called). I would suggest you try out a few guys in regular play and see what pitches work best for you or what you like.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
God I love this game and the career mode. D: . I made myself and put myself at 3rd base and with my backup position as outfield as I played as a kid and I went with the Braves team.
Spring Training was good.
.350
36 hits
10 runs
8 doubles
2 HR
17 RBI
4 SB
Got into Double A and only had 3 pinch hits and got called up to Triple A.
In Gwinnett I'm hitting a little over .400, Got to love patience and knocking balls foul to work that count.
27 hits
8 runs
9 doubles
1 HR
15 rbi
1 sb
One of my goals is to get 21 rbi's. XD . Hope I can get it.</EMBED>Last edited by S2S; 06-10-2009, 02:41 PM.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
I asked this question back on page 111, with no reply. I'll try again.
In RTTS mode obviously,
I'm on 2nd base, my team is hitting. So im controlling the base runner. My CPU teammate is batting.
Now has any CPU teammate hit a homerun while you've been on base with your RTTS character???Comment

I am pretty sure you will only be used as a pitcher. I think you will be wasting the points, but you could test it out for the rest of us.Comment

In the minors, very few have home run power. That's probably why you haven't seen it yet.Comment

Re: MLB 09 "Road To The Show" thread
I haven't tried a CP yet but I doubt you'll do any hitting or playing the field.
You probably shouldn't do much to your hitting stats at the beginning of your career. Focus on pitching. But if you are with an NL team, it doesn't hurt to start playing around with the bat some after you've made it to the show and are confident in your pitching ability. I'm starting my 2nd year in the majors and might start working on my hitting stats in a year or two. Want to win a CY Young first.Comment
