Yep, the main problem being that the Cubs only play day games on Sundays.

          It'll be ok man...

I just got mine and Im positive its better than 2k9, and I haven't even played it yet.

          Thats how bad 2k9 is.

TShow 08 was better than 2k9 by worlds.

            - Franchise mode: is it as detailed/full-featured as the PS3 version? Are there things like 40-man roster, September call-ups, minor league options, etc? Are there any omissions or bugs about which I should know?

            - Roster glitch: is it present in the PS2 version?

            - Any other missing features?

THANKS! After my two exams tomorrow I plan on rewarding myself with some 2009 video game baseball.
I'm right there with you...360 owner that just wants a good baseball game. I've got MVP 05 on my regular XBox but I needed a change. Bought MLB '08 for my old PS2 a few months ago and was happy I did it. Then yesterday I upgraded to '09 on the PS2. I still think MVP is better overall but The Show can hold its own and 2K blows. I'm still a happy 360 owner but when it comes to baseball I don't mind playing a "last-gen" title.

I still haven't seen a throwing error yet. I have only played on legend so far though so maybe they are more rare on that level. The only types of mishaps I'm seeing in the field are bobbled balls by infielders just like last year. This game really needs a better variety of errors.

I've had three throwing errors in five games...computer has had one throwing error and a handful of catching/bobbling errors. Work with the sliders.

P.S. Will someone from SCEA please answer as to why the PS2 roster update doesn't work yet?

Can someone keep trying to see if it works and then post it on here in .maxdrive format?

I tried about 20 minutes ago and it still isnt fixed. I hope I'm wrong but I dont think its going to be fixed until the next roster update is released.

Bumping this. Just curious as to the differences between 08 and 09.

That's my thought as well. Which, if they are doing weekly updates, means we'll get them in the next couple of days.

Here is my review of the PS2 version:

                          Hitting:
I have only played two full games (both on legend), and the hitting is tough. I am still trying to work some slider tweaks to my liking. I really like that you can turn on an inside pitch this year, but it has also hurt me so far. Last year I would try swinging so early just to hit a ball up the middle, and I am still in that kind of groove and I have had a hard time staying back and waiting a little longer. It will take time to get use to, but hitting is great. I have seen ropes down the lines, one ball hit over an outfielders head, and a few texas leaguers.

                          Pitching:
The breaking pitches are great. Curveballs actually look like curveballs. I faced Smoltz last night, and his slider was dirty. The only thing that I need to figure out is how to strike out the computer more. A little slider tweaking. They make you pay for a mistake on legend mode though. I hung a 0-2 curve to JD Drew that got hammered. I was mad, but it also brought a smile to my face.

                          Fielding:
I have seen one error (by me) and Nick Punto, who is one of the most sure-handed shortstops in the majors. It was a bobble, but I really wish they would have added different types of errors. I have not seen any throwing errors yet, but have heard they are out there. I would like to see balls that go through guys legs and the guy ends up two. The double plays are also nice!!

                          Rosters/Editing:
I am upset that the roster update has not been working. So I went ahead and updated them all myself last night. It took me about 3 hours. I really like the editing of players this year. The numbers help out tremendously and the sliders seem to move faster. This helps when you are creating a player from scratch and everything starts at 0 and you need to go to like 80 or so. The one thing that I do not like is that way they have to roster set up with everyone on one long list. You then have to click on that person to see if they are in AA, AAA, or MLB. Not sure how they could have done this differently but it needs to be changed next year.

                          Overall:
I would say that this is a must have. The game plays great out of the box, and will get even better when I get used to a couple of things and tweak some sliders a little bit. I really like the hitting and pitching difficulties. It makes for a challenge. I wish the commentary would change a little, but I can live with it. Hope that this helps a bit for those people that are not sure about spending the $30 bones. I say do it, you will not be unhappy!

Are we going to be lucky enough to have someone post the PS2 weekly roster updates in max file this year? I'm hoping so. I'm just not skilled enough to figure it out myself.

If you have an ethernet cable and an internet connection, you can get the roster updates simply by logging in to the online portion of the game.

                                Re: PS2 Impressions thread

So far I am very impressed with The Show 09. Everything is still very tight and hitting is a bit harder, but not overly hard. Pitching is more fun as pitches just seem to more alive than last year. Breaking pitches have more snap to em than last year.

The errors in the field are awesome...

there are throwing errors, bobbling errors...

the coolest error yet was an attempted pick off the CPU overthrew allowing my runner on first to take second. Was very cool.

It also seems like the player is more likely to commit a throwing error when he is off balance.

It is also much easier to pull the ball this year.

                                ...and the graphics are better.

Only gripes I have are the player movement/management screens are a bit confusing.

But thats it. This game blows 2k9 out of the water.

                                I'll give it a 9.5 outta 10.
