      Bull Durham, hands down IMO.

But recently started a franchise with the Houston Astros. Had a Opening Day victory 6-5 over the Cubs, being down 5-4 Hunter Pence hit a 2-run shot in the bottom of the 8th.

Bull Durham is one of the most overrated movies of all time IMO. But, that's just me. I know lots of folks that love that movie. Too much love story going on for my taste.

Ha, I can understand the love gig. Here is another one better, IMO. Don't get me wrong, Major League was great but I also enjoyed The Natural alot.

Played my second game of the series against the Cubs and won 5-4. Made a few mistakes and gave up 3 solo shots and 4 hits. Made some baserunning errors, but I am still learning and switched to classic to make it easier.

The games have been close and action packed. Really enjoying them so far.

                Re: Franchise Progress Thread

Well just past the all star break with my Jays & Braves franchise( started a 2 player, wanted 1 AL and 1 NL team) my Jays are 40-49 and 20 games back of the Red Sox for 4thin the AL East. Needless to say, not a very good half.

My Braves on the other hand have been pretty great. They are 56-33 which is good enough to be 2 games up on the Mets in the NL East.

I simmed 2 seasons right off the bat(dont really know why lol, just kind of felt like it lol) and here are a few notable moves i have made for both of my teams.

                Jays Pitching:
Rotation - Traded for Chris Carpenter to reunite him with Roy Halladay and hopefully have a great 1-2 punch with pitchers #3-5 able to go deep and pitch well in most games. I like how my rotation looks; Halladay, Carpenter, McGowan, Litsch and Marcum.

Relivers - Got rid of a few pitchers who didnt have great years and replaced them somewhat. I am not really happy with my bullpen but it hasent been as bad as i thought it would be. I added Jesse Crain(good old Canadian lol) and currently have a really good 20 year old in my bullpen, Rolf Pettit who should be a good long reliever for me i hope. I traded away BJ Ryan after a bad year as i wanted to save some money and have put Brandon League as my closer. I currently have a phenom rookie who i drafted waiting in the wings as closer and thought i may have to bring him up if League didnt pitch well, but he has been on absoloute fire. Brandon League in 24 games pitched(22 innings) has not blown a save, has struck out 16 and has not given up a single run. I am more than happy with the way he has pitched for me and will keep him as my closer.

                Lineup Notables:
C - Signed Jason Varitek as a backup to Clark Kramer who is my young catcher that i drafted who has been great in his year and a half for me. Varitek has been a solid backup addition as well.
1B/DH - I sent Lyle Overbay packing after 2 less than average seasons at the plate and signed Mike Jacobs, Russel Branyan and a much needed left handed slugger, David Ortiz. Jacobs plays every day at first, Ortiz DH's and Branyan is in the minors and acts as an emergency backup. Ortiz has been on fire and is contending for the MVP and Jacobs has been average i suppose, still not sure if i will re-sign him yet.
2B - Still have Aaron Hill as hes a favorite of mine, putting up his usual numbers. Have a 23 year old who might get the call next season Nate Hillenbrand whos playing pretty well in AAA. Will see about him in the offseason.
3B - Signed Eric Chavez as a free agent after i traded Rolen away because i wanted another gold glover at third and he has made some pretty great plays for taking away some hits. He hasent been good at all at the plate and is hitting .213 which is terrible. He would be gone by now if not for his defence and my lack of ability to find a cheap 3B who would be good for the rest of the season. I will let him walk when his contract expires at the end of the season.
SS - As always with the Jays has been a problem for a long while as i had Jed Lowrie and Ronnie Cedeno platooning for the season until i traded for Jeff Baker. I got him to use as a super utility guy and he has been on an absoloute tear, just ripping the cover off the ball. He has 15 homers, 32 rbis and is batting .353 in less than a month and a bit that i have had him. Needless to say he has won the starting job at short and is running with it.
LF - Adam Lind and Travis Snider have been platooning out in left with Lind getting more playing time. I want to get Snider going but thats not happening yet.
CF - I sent a package of Wells, Wolf(who was pitching well in AAA) and a top prospect RP for Carlos Gomez, Pat Neshek and a scrub. Neshek was getting rocked in Minny so i hoped he would play better in Toronto. He didnt and had a 6+ ERA i think so i sent him to St.Louis in the Carpenter deal. Wells wasent playing well at all and neither was Gomez in Minny. Neither have really benifited in a change of scenery but he gives me a good amount of speed at leadoff and i can put Rios in the 3 spot ahead of Ortiz which i would rather have him than leadoff.
RF - No change here and Rios isnt going anywhere for a long while.

My entire rotation has been struggling this season with a 4+ era and Halladay had a few injuries early on in the season, including opening day in the 2nd inning that killed my bullpen and then he proceded to get injured in his first game back for a few days. A bright spot though is that i just pitched easily his best game, a complete game 1 run victory which i struck out 10 Yankees at their new stadium. Felt like vintage Doc haha.

I am tired right now so perhaps tommorow i will post whats going on in my Braves half of the season but i just took a perfect game through 8 2/3 innings with Ervin Santana which was the closest i have ever been to a perfecto or a no-no. I dont remember who it was on the Giants who broke it up but it felt good to pitch that great of a game. Ended up with a 1 hit shutout with 6 k's which was easily the best pitching performace i have ever had in The Show dating back to 07.

I am 10-15 in my Franchise with the Athletics. In my last 10 games I am 5-5. Im getting frustrated because im trying so hard to get back to 500. Ive lost some games because of stupid mistakes like overthrowing the guy at 1st, or poor pitch selection. Im only 6 games out of the Wild Card though. The Rangers are tearing it up, I think they are 19-5 in my Franchise.

                    Re: Franchise Progress Thread

I'm currently 2-2 in my Houston Astros franchise. Started out winning two close games agains't the Chicago Cubs and losing a close one in the final game of the series.

Currently in a showdown with the St. Louis Cardinals, but lost the first game 5-1.

Carlos Lee has been HORRIBLE! 1 hit in about 15-16 ABs, but he has drew some walks. Miguel Tejeda and Geoff Blum are over .400 in batting average, starting the season. Hunter Pence has 2 homers, along with Lance Berkman's 1 on opening day.

Post tomorrow and hopefully finish out my St. Louis series in a good fashion.

                      Re: Franchise Progress Thread

I’m currently 2 -1 in with the Mets. Mets are tied with the Marlins and Braves for first place in NL East (LOL yes it’s very early). I beat the Reds 4-3 to open. Pedro Feliciano got the win. His ERA is 10.8. Santana pitched 7 innings with 5 Ks. His ERA is 1.29.

I lost the second game 6 -1 with Mike Pelfrey getting the loss. His ERA is 9. He did have 6 Ks. I won the third game of the series 6-4 with John Maine getting the win. His ERA is 4.5 with 6 Ks. Frank Rodriquez has 2 saves.

Carlos Beltran, Ryan Church, and Brian Schneider (HR 1 RBI 3) are all batting .333. David Wright is batting .273. Jose Reyes has 2 stolen bases but batting a pitiful .083.
Daniel Murphy is batting .154. I just moved Gary Sheffield up from triple A to the Majors so Murphy is about to have a seat.

I also signed Ben Sheets to a 4 year deal.

I'm about to start one up with the Rays. I'm waiting for ridin's newest roster so I can have the historical stats correct. I was using the Brewers but with the stat glitch and me not really feeling my team I wanted to change it up. I like the Rays players much better than the Brew Crew.

Off to a 10-6 start with the Angels in my MOM season. Vlad Guerrero just hit career home run #400..

                            This game is so ridiculous.

So true BK. I don't think there has ever been a better true to life game than this. It plays so realistic and looks great. Throw in all the little nuances of the game and you have a top-notch product.

I've said this before. But imo, and it's strictly my opinion, this is the greatest sports game I have ever played. Bar none.
