    Re: MLB 09, System killer?

    Couple Questions:

    Were you using custom music?
    Was your system dusty?

My system crashed when I was doing a save in MLB 08. My RTTS career was lost forever.

I was using custom music and my system was dusty. I paid $150 and now I have a new system...that's not dusty

Why would you pay $150 for a new system if it was just dust? Wouldn't you just dust it off or am I missing something here?

        - No custom music
        - Yes my PS3 is dusty! haha!

I ain't paying 150 for a refurbished console...I went to gamestop, they said I could trade in my broken PS3 for $115 so I might do that instead. Plus they have a special going on right now, when you buy a 80GB PS3 you get a $50 gift card..

That's all? or get a 160 GB PS3 with 3 games included for only $100 more (yeah one of the game costs 89.99 orginially as well) That's if you don't have any of those games heh.

Did your reformat work, brotha? Hope so. I have a system PS3 that I bought on the original launch day. It gets loud and hot, but (knock on wood) it has been very dependable. I am on my 4th Xbox 360 though. Microsoft has been very good about fixing them and sending them back promptly however .

It was on for about 15secs before it turned off again(didn't eject my disc), so I turned it back on, got my disc out and the system stayed on for about 2 mintues before I turned it off.

Later this evening, fired it back up, have checked the store and all and the system seems to be normal. I looked in the manual and it seems that the system got hot on the inside, which is why the red light was flashing. Not sure why it went off, unless its designed to do that.
But to the OP, I would contact Sony.
It is designed to do that. If the system gets too hot, it shuts down to prevent damage to the multitude of processors in there. Part of the reason why the X-Box 360's have had so much trouble is do the intense amount of heat that is generated. When heat is present in a circuit board, it does some nasty damage. So the PS3 is designed to shut itself down if there is too much heat in there in order to prevent permanent damage to the system.

Heat issues will occur if the PS3 is dusty, or if it is kept in an entertainment center with poor ventillation. Mine is kept out in the open and dust is never an issue as I am anal retentive about dust in my house.

IMMEDIATELY stop reading this and back up all your saves/whatever else is on there you want/need right NOW and set aside $150 on a credit card,if you have a credit card,if not you're screwed, unless some place near you can deal with it. I'd also say stick to downloadable games for a bit.

                          I need your opinion guys

As you know my PS3 stop reading discs... Can't play any games, dvd's, blu ray!!!!!!!

                          Here's the deal...

                          Option 1:

                          - Send my console to Sony and have it fix for $150.

                          Option 2:

                          - Trade in my broken console to Gamestop for $115 and get the 80GB version plus $50 gift card. (Is it worth it spending $300-something dollars for a brand new system plus extra 40 GB of disk space? Rather than pay $150 and get a refurbished console?)
