backed everything up(I back up things as I save them). And I'm going out this morning to purchase a new one. My system has bit the dust.IMMEDIATELY stop reading this and back up all your saves/whatever else is on there you want/need right NOW and set aside $150 on a credit card,if you have a credit card,if not you're screwed, unless some place near you can deal with it. I'd also say stick to downloadable games for a bit.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: MLB 09, System killer?
I had a problem about 3 months ago with my 60 GB and I chose Option 1, they turned it around pretty fast, they actually send you a refurbished system right away. Everything has been ok since (knock on wood). I didn't want to spend the extra cash at the time and I wanted to keep the 60 GB backwards compatibilty. Good LuckI need your opinion guys
As you know my PS3 stop reading discs... Can't play any games, dvd's, blu ray!!!!!!!
Here's the deal...
Option 1:
- Send my console to Sony and have it fix for $150.
Option 2:
- Trade in my broken console to Gamestop for $115 and get the 80GB version plus $50 gift card. (Is it worth it spending $300-something dollars for a brand new system plus extra 40 GB of disk space? Rather than pay $150 and get a refurbished console?)Comment

Re: MLB 09, System killer?
by reading what you just posted, why are you turning off the system with thn game inside. Hit the PS button and quit game and then take the game out and then turn the system off.I notice a problem with this game last night as well. When i hit the PS button and hit turn system off. The screen turned black and wouldn't shut down. I had to turn it off manually from the back button on the ps3. I heard a few people complaining about this as well. I hope this game isn't messing up my ps3...
I hope you guys aren't keeping your games in when turning off the system, thats a big NO-NO.Last edited by RoyalBoyle78; 03-06-2009, 09:53 AM.N.Y Mets

Re: MLB 09, System killer?
I had a similar thing happen with The Show 07 or 08 and it was my network connection hanging it up. I restarted my router or turned off internet and it was fine. Eventually everything worked normally again.Comment

Re: MLB 09, System killer?
Maybe we should have taken that article, about Kevin Durant burning up a PS3 playing The Show, to heart.
It sounds like it has done it to a few members on here now. It actually scares me to play this game now. I really don't have any extra cash to get it fixed if it crashes.
Question: When playing the PS3, do you keep it in a confined space, like a shelf in an entertainment center? Or do you pull it out into open?Comment

Re: MLB 09, System killer?
Mine is in a confined space in my entertainment center but after reading this thread and the ps3 shutting down on me as well the other night I'm going to start pulling it off the shelf when I play from now on. Not worth the risk.Maybe we should have taken that article, about Kevin Durant burning up a PS3 playing The Show, to heart.

Around here, they don't hang anything unless its for being world champions."Comment

Re: MLB 09, System killer?
Well I have pulled mine out since day one. I was just wondering if others around here were doing the same and still having problems. I haven't had any overheating problems by doing this. *keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't happen to me*Comment

Re: MLB 09, System killer?
Good to hear! This problem is usually caused by HDD corruption. Make sure you backup your important data!!
Also you can easily upgrade your HDD. For instance you can get a new 320gb Western Digital drive (I don't like the Seagates sony is using in the PS3's) for $89.99 from New Egg.Comment

Re: MLB 09, System killer?
Two things you must do for PS3 Longevity:
(1) Keep the system in an "Open Air" enviorment - The Next-Gen machines get very hot and depending on which model 20 - 160 GB and Chip size you have 90 or 60 nm determines heat output. I place my unit on a small coffee table with at least four feet of space on all sides, as well as four small tin cans I use to prop the unit about 5 or 6 inches off the table to help all around airflow.
(2) Dust daily, I wipe the unit down everday with a T-shirt rag.
I have a launch day 60BG unit, I bought off of Ebay with no harddrive around the time MSG4 came out, I upgraded to 160GB, only do system updates via flash drive. I've had the occasional freeze ups with Fallout 3 & NBA 2k9 post update, but I've found those to be software related and after following others advice I rectified it. I try to keep the playing to no more than 6 hours per session, with mandatory 2 hour cool down periods, although I did do some 8+ hour sessions with Fallout 3. Been playing 3 and 4 hour sessions of MLB 09 online, now if I could only hit the ball
Hope this helps someone

Re: MLB 09, System killer?
I agree, you probably should take the disc out for longevity reasons, but I always forget to do it.by reading what you just posted, why are you turning off the system with thn game inside. Hit the PS button and quit game and then take the game out and then turn the system off.

Ventilation is key for both the 360 and PS3. I have mine in an entertainment center, even behind closed doors (so I don't have to hear the darn things), but I have a cooling system for them as well as my high end audio equipment (which is why I really have the cooling system (it was sold for high end audio)). I don't recommend it because it is too expensive, but you could also try what I used to do, have some small fans blowing the hot air out the back of your entertainment system, or just open the doors
It's funny but my launch PS3 is louder than my newer 360 when the cabinet doors are open. My older 360s used to sound like 747s taking off.Comment

Re: MLB 09, System killer?
my console bit the dust around thanksgiving. i was playing alot of ncaa football, and so were my roommates and we had alot of times when we played the system for many many hours on end here at school which is definitely not good for it.
i got it refurbished, under warranty, and havent had a problem since. oh yeah by the way, i dont play it for more than about 4 hours at a time, and i no longer have it sitting in the living room for my roommates to ruin.
one more thing. I usually remove my ps3 from my class tv stand and place it on a shoe box when i play. i read that on another site, and while i dont know how much it helps airflow, nothing has happened thus far.Comment

Re: MLB 09, System killer?
Already? Figured it would've taken at least 3 more times. Well at least you kept your stuff. Mine died for the last time in the middle of backing it up and I'm not giving Sony any more money after this happend with PS1 and PS2 too. I'll have to look into local fixes next week since they didn't even bother responding to my complaint.Comment
