Re: MLB 09, System killer?
Mine broke exactly the same way past week, in my case was playing Fallout 3 so the game is not the issue.
The problem is the bluray lens, that is garbage in the early models, they fixed it in the late ones. So all launch day consoles bluray lens will end dying one day or another.
I have sent mine to Sony and they offered me a new 80gb model, as the original 60gb one is no longer being built. So i took it, as i'll get it in 2 weeks, while waiting for a repaired old 60gb one would have meant 2+ months waiting. Btw, i'm talking about Sony Europe, don't know if it's the same in USA.
The good news is that i'll get a brand new console with the new bluray reader, the bad news is that the new consoles are not Ps2 backwards compatible, but anyway i don't play ps2 games anymore.
It's really painful to have received MLB09 the show yesterday and to have it still plastic sealed here until sony sends me the new console.Comment

Ok, you said Sony offered you the 80Gig version because the 60 GB does not exist anymore? Mine is 40GB, do you think they will still fix it?Comment

Re: MLB 09, System killer?
They should still fix it Greene...I'm in the UK, my 40Gb died last November with Madden and they replaced it...Sony UK are spot on with replacements, fortunately I was still within my 12months warranty and they replaced it by courier within 48hrs....now that I'm out of warranty I pay £5 (approx $7-$10) a month to Sony just in case my PS3 breaks again - this covers me for a replacement within 48hrs...it's worth the money just in case....not sure if Sony US offers a similar type of thing though.Dedicated member of the CPU v CPU worldwide brethren.Comment

Re: MLB 09, System killer?
On average, how long do you guys play for? Movie, game, whatever?
Because I average one to two hours a day, depending on the game I'm playing. Also, I haven't tried the BluRay movie player yet.
Anyway, even in that short period of time, I notice the unit gets warm. Heat kills, it seems...
Has anyone tried that "cooling pad" thing I've seen? Wonder if that helps keep it cool?Comment

Re: MLB 09, System killer?
ya,i bought my ps3 in march of 07 and it started doing everything you all have been saying...play for awhile or load and get stuck loading, sometimes it would load and play then freeze,i played cod war and nba 2k9,so it didnt matter what game, eventually it finally wouldnt load any game...so i did send it in and had it fixed for 150 bucks..i guess its not that bad, cause shipping to and from would be pretty costly,so i doubt sony was makin moneyfxing product..but honestly ive had 2 friends who bought 360's when they came out and at the time asked me why i didnt buy a 360,i told them nah,i'l wait for the ps3,so im glad i made the choice as they have had crazy trouble with their rrod stuff, and i must say i did have to get my ps3 fixed, but it was an original 60 gig model but its been great ever sense..so ps3 rules!!definatley the more economic choice even if it cost more up front,it just has a lot longer life duration than 360...im 33 yrs old btw,so ive been around for awhile with the video game generation..later go show 09!!!Comment
