For the guys who are really good, this would probably be their type of game. Although I must say I was winning games before I knew about this, but nothing was ever by more than 1-2 runs. Now I know why.

-If you want to play a straight up game against the cpu, with neither team getting any sort of "boost", then the handicap slider needs to be ON. Since I've done this, I've lost 10-8, 10-3, 5-1 and won games 9-3, 7-3, 7-1 and 5-0. That's NEVER happened before in my games with OFF.

In the end, whichever you decide to choose, there is no guarantee of anything. The cpu may or may not comeback. The user may or may not comeback. You may have games where you win by five runs, lose by five, or squeak out a 9th inning win. Same goes for AI.

Me personally, I'd like to think I'm playing the game more on the level, and I really wish this slider wasn't even in the game(or the idea of "boosted ratings" ever programmed into it). So I'll stick to keeping it ON.
That is perfectly worded. I find the exact same to be true. Especially the fact that I can win with it OFF, but never by more then 4 runs. First 2 games I play I win by 8 and then 7. Go figure.

Thanks for your take Spyder. This still doesn't explain, really, how there is such a dramatic difference in CPU tendancies and talent when the score is 0 - 0, either with the setting turned ON or OFF. If the game is 0 - 0, then there shouldn't be any logic at all going into effect, yet, my own experiences with the setting are night and day.

I'm going to play another game today after work and see. In the meantime, I need to get back to building this website... interesting stuff so far.

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON

I'm getting a little confused in regards to what level some of you are playing on. I know Dave and Philly are on legend, but if you're going to post results please specify which level you are using.

I played a game last night on All-Star default everything, comeback ON. Here is how the scoring went in that game:

        4-0
        4-2
        6-2
        6-6
        7-6 Final

It appeared comeback ON was working just fine in this one game sample on All-Star. I am now going to embark on a game in legend and will post the results later.

In regards to the game "feeling different" has anyone tried going into game options prior to the start of the game, closing your eyes while selecting comeback ON & OFF several times then going back into the game? In other words, try playing the game NOT kowing if the comeback setting is on off then check it at the end of the game after you've made your opinion. Just curious if this is some sort of placebo effect going on here.

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON

so, i just completed my 16th game with Comback ON, and i finnaly got blown out by the AI, which i must say had never happened in the 90+ games i played before with it OFF...

          BOS 7-11-0
          OAK 1-5-0
          WP-Beckett
          LP-Gallangher
          BOS 502 000 000
          OAK 000 010 000
so tehre u go, if there was a comeback code with ON , i would definatly come back on them since there was plenty of time

This game was the definite answer for ME. becasue the only kind of game that i was still to see with it ON was this kind, with me losing big.

im on legend and this was a season game btw

I will try that, but I'm new enough where I am not skilled enough to make the game play differently on purpose. I am playing on Veteran for all of my results, sorry I posted that earlier but not on this page. That I Was getting shelled in every game with Comeback set to OFF, and then I pitched a complete game with Matsuzaka, winning 1 - 0, was indicative that something is significantly different -- if not just a "comeback" logic (because the game was 0 - 0, there was something significantly different in how the CPU batter's hit against me.

I was pitching, basically, how I usually do... but the results were very, very different. As I've noted, before my game last night, I had only won 1 other game when I first got the game, and in probably 10 - 15 games, I hadn't won a single game, and I had given up between 8 and 18 runs per game. I'm a veteran to baseball and baseball videogames, too, so I'd do everything that I'd normally do: pitching to strengths of the pitcher, weaknesses of the batter, wasting pitches on 0 - 2 counts, pitching out with speedy guys, using the pitchers most confident pitches, following the catchers suggestions MOST of the time (sometimes, he'd call for a high and middle 4FB that I was not getting over the plate righ and I knew it'd be belted, so I'd rather give up the walk with something low and away than a sure hit with a high FB).

My results were stark enough to convince me that there's something ... innaccurately described in the setting. Also, my game was 0 - 0 throughout 8 1/2 innings of the game... which by the description of the setting, should negate the comeback logic, but before that game, I had never had a game where I hadn't given up like 8 - 18 runs (except for one game very early that I won 5 - 4, against KC in exhibition.. all of my Franchise games I've given up a dozen runs)

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON

I too just finished my 1st game with this ON.
As NYY I beat the LA California Angels of Anaheim 10-4 (good buddy)
I was up 2-0 in the top of the 3rd. Figgins singles, steals 2nd, moves to 3rd on a ground out. Vlad sac flys him home. 2-1 going into the bottom of the 4th.
I become very patient at the plate and get into good hitter's counts and score 8 runs on several singles, a 2 run double by Matsui and homers by Cano, and Posada. Also mix in an error by Izturis with 2 outs that led to 4 more runs.
10-1 into the 5th, they score 2. I can only blame myself though as I was just trying to throw strikes. Not much need to nibble with a 9 run lead. I hold them for the next few innings, with the help of 2 inning ending double plays, until I give up 1 in the 7th. Leadoff double by Vlad in the 8th and I was able to strand him there followed by a 1-2-3 ninth.
Sure this was just one game but it felt like a cleaner, truer game if that makes sense. When I got smacked around I knew why, and when I did the smacking I also knew why. I got into a few jams but was able to make good pitches to get out of them with only minimal damage.
If the rest of my season plays the way this game did I will be pleased. I will certainly play more to test this theory.

I would think once you change it in the game and save your franchise it would remain on, since when you exit out of the options it asks if you want to save changes. I could be wrong though.

I dont think this feature is "broken", just very badly worded, as Spyder says.

Handicapping the CPU comeback by putting it ON does now make sense to me...

Once again, can someone please tell me where to find this option in Franchise mode. All of you seem to have found it, so can one of you please give us that haven't found it detailed directions. I've seen thise same question asked at least 5 times in this thread and no one has given the answer yet. Don't keep the secret to yourself, let us know where to find it too. I am about ready to sale this game, because I just seem to win. I win every once in a while, but last night for example. Year 3-4 into my franchise Rangers and Yankees in the ALDS. I'm up 1-0 with one out in the bottom of the 9th after Ben Sheets held the Yanks to 5 hits. Prince Fielder (A Yankee, really how many all-star 1B do they need) hits a chopper to 2nd. Ian Kinsler overthrows 1B, Fielder advances to 2nd. I bring in my closer Huston Street. 1st pitch Melky Cabrera two-run walk off homerun to left field. Okay, so I know this can happen, but not everytime I play. That happens pretty regularly in my franchise. Everytime I have a big lead or small lead late in the game my fielders start having errors, my pitchers can't find the plate. I'm tired of it. I need something to save this game for me. Someone please tell me where to find the comeback option in franchise mode.

hopefully Russel or one of the other devs can comment on this. it seems very strange that they would have the cpu comeback enabled by default.

You have to start a game then change it from the gameplay options in the pause menu. It's either under player 1 settings or global, can't remember.

I was out of town for three days, and was very surprised to come back and find this Very Popular thread.

I have never touched this CPU Comeback option. I play as the Dodgers right now. I have won 4 and lost 4. I have close games and blowouts.

I thought we mostly agreed that this game played great with some slider tweaks.

Now, all of the sudden, we have a bunch of people saying the game is unbalanced or unrealistic unless this option is On. Huh?

I will continue to play the way I've been playing. I'm sure the developers will comment on this when they get back from vacation. Until then, I'll enjoy my games without worrying about this issue.

What I'm mostly seeing in this thread are people who are unhappy that they are not winning enough. And/or feeling that the AI is making "unfair" comeback or hits. This kind of thing has been discussed in a bazillion (it's a real number!!) threads.

People want the sliders/settings to be reversed every year. It's a given that we have threads like this.

did u evan read the thread man??
most people taht complained , like me, were finding the comeback stuff working on the human side too! like all of suddunly balls would start flighing of out bats for no reason or extra effort by us...
i had several AI comebacks agasint me ok, but ive also had some unbelivable comebacks by me from 10-0 , 8-0 and 7-0!! in games that i had already thrown the towel, bottom line was that every single game in my season mode(over 50) were close games.

so , plain and simple, its not about winning or losing man, its about how the game was beeing played and how it plays now, how AI batters behave and how our batters behave after we are down by much or up by much.

either way, if ure happy with how it plays for u, keep it that way, i just dont see the need of coming here and saying that people are complaining because theyre not winning, thats ridiculous.
