re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
I sent Marmol down to AAA, the Minor league season only had a few games left. When the rosters expanded I brought him back up and the first game I used him he pitched 2 innings and retired every batter. Hopefully the trip down to AAA did something and he can be counted on again for me as I am 5.0 games back of the Cardinals and tied with the Brewers for the wildcard on the 11th of Sept.Playstation Network:That70s_Gamer

eh i guess not "unrealistic".. but argenis reyes is borderline useless, and a d level double a reliever.. balfour is a solid reliever.. id say its prettty lopsided.. but oh wellComment

Balfour is suitable not solid in this game IMO. He always has a 4+ era in my game and I can always get a few runs off the guy.Comment

re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
When I was just fooling around wating for the trade dealine to pass so I could start a new franchise I was playing around with what I could trade Orlanado Cabrera for. At the time he still had not been traded to the Twins. If he wasn't traded I was going to trade him somewhere at the start of my new frnachise and wanted to see what the best deal I might be able to get for him. Well I traded him to the Royals once for their 3rd base prospect, forgot the name off a=hand and doubt I could spell it anyway, but the A potential one they have. so I get him and I think another prospect as well. Not sure it was realistic, but like I said I was just messing around waisting some time. Well I make the trade and then at the start of the Spring games the Royals waive him and I picked him up and was able to trade him somewhere else for other good prospects. I thought ti was funny.
Now I didn't even use this in a franchise. Just posting it because of the Juan Pieire for Zambrano post which was funny.
It is fairly easy to make some bad trades, but I was starting a new franchise in part because I was almost done with on eyear in a franchise before I realized I had the force trade function on. I had made trades and with that on, you don't ever know if a trade you make would have been declined. So I felt odd staying with it thinking some of the deal I made might have been pretty bad, so wanted to start fresh. Especially after the A's traded Holliday. For what it is worth, Holliday was a triple crown candidate for me while with my A's. He was a beast.Comment

re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
The Brewers are desperately seeking to shed payroll and rebuild as they arent competing, so playing around it looks like i could do (im the Tigers)...
Tigers get:
Ryan Braun
Brewers get:
Fernando Rodney
Marcus Thames
Andrew Graham (catching prospect)
I dont need anyone to tell me this is a raping of the CPU
But then if they are looking to shift salary, they get a power hitting replacement for Braun in Thames, a prospect and a hard throwing reliever.
Is it so hard to imagine this one happening?Comment

re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
@Psycho- It is hard to imagine the Brewers parting with Fielder, Braun, or Gallardo unless they are in dire straits. Are they doing terrible in your franchise by chance? That is one of the reason why I think that they would even consider it.Comment

re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
I've only made 1 trade in my franchise (well, 2 trades but to the same team, at the same time, so it technically was 1 trade). I'm the Diamondbacks and unlike the real team, I'm pretty injury free and in the playoff race. Ended up pulling this trade off recently:
TIGERS GET:
Doug Davis
Tony Clark
AA Prospect (C)
AA Prospect (SS)
DBACKS GET:
Joel Zumaya
Josh Anderson
I'm trying to make a conscious effort to not make super unrealistic trades and for the most part, I don't think this one was that bad.
Granted, the Tigers, who at this point aren't out of it but are middle of the pack, are taking on two Veterans and their salaries. But, Edwin Jackson is on the DL for them and they needed a starter and Anderson was splittig time with Thames. They get a solid starter and possible DH + slightly below average prospects.
As it stands, both players I recieved have been a little underwhelming to this point, but I can see Zumaya being a beast (101 mph fastballs) and Anderson a good pinch hitter and fill in outfielder with some speed. Not only that, but I dumped a huge amount of salary and aging vets.

re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**
Yes. I can assure you unless the Brewers get a player currently of absolute equal value to Braun they will never, ever trade him. With all the money Mark Attanasio has pumped into the franchise they're not as cheap as they used to be.
Here's a trade I made at the start of my new Brewers franchise. It might appear kind of odd so allow me to explain it.
PADRES GET:
P Jeff Suppan
P Chris Smith
P Matt Ginter
BREWERS GET:
P Mark Prior
Seriously, let me explain. I wasn't purposely trying to be cute with this one; it really does make kinda sense.
Here's my situation: I'm going into spring training with a potential rotation that is mediocre straight through -- though I did bring our old friend Ben Sheets back into the fold to help out -- and Suppan, as he sucks in the game just as much as he does in reality, was a fringe candidate to make my rotation. Truth be told I didn't want him in the rotation, and sending him to AAA would've been a waste of a AAA roster spot. Here's the reasoning behind this:
1. Suppan is due about $3.5 mil this season and a little more in 2010. For a 33 year old who can barely make a mediocre-at-best rotation, that's bad; and worse for a team like mine that needs to spend wisely. Prior is due more at $4 million, but he's on a one-year deal and provides flexibility.
2. If you've ever looked at Prior's ratings in this game, aside from his understandably awful durability, the guy is a stud as far as vitals like strikeout/walk/homer ratios are concerned. Furthermore, he's 27, so I could consider keeping him for the long run if I get anything out of him. He also has a minor league option.
I did not know -- and still don't know -- how I'll use Prior. He could end up in the rotation, the bullpen or in AAA. But he's younger and more talented than Suppan and still possesses actual upside, so all things considered I really can't go wrong.
(I just started and only got him into one spring game, but here was his line against the A's out of the pen: 2 IP, H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K. Wicked sweeping curve.)
3. The two throw-ins, Ginter (C rating with C upside) and Smith (D rating with D upside), are both 29 and 27 respectively and have no inherit value to anyone. Ginter was a longshot to make my roster as a long reliever and Smith was destined for AAA at the very best.
4. I try not to make trades where I give up anyone of value (duh), and this actually was the only deal I could make with the package I offered, save for Doug Davis, who in the game is pretty much a wash with Suppan. At the end of the day, if it doesn't pan out, big deal; I lost no one of consequence and I let him walk at the end of the season.
But if it does pan out, I not only got a very good pitcher, but most importantly, I totally stick it to the Cubs.
