We are seeing two different things then, as Beckett and Mauer are always traded in every sim run I do. Only now after the patch am I seeing Mauer not traded multiple times in a season. I do see Mauer getting put on the block the day after he gets traded to a different team, but he is never traded a second time. I know players put on the block are not always being traded. I have never said otherwise. What I am seeing in all test runs so far is that every player in their final contract year is going up on the block. That leads me to believe it is a part of the programming. I may try to do some extra test runs with various roster updates, since I have only done two different roster sets so far: the stock rosters and the 8/13? rosters. I am waiting for Knight's rosters anyway on top of my test franchise not going as well as I had hoped, so it is not like I have anything else to do, at least as far as the game is concerned.

Yeah I agree, Mauer has been traded in my franchise as well, and for some minor league pitchers and outfielders with decent stats and A potential, but nothing crazy.

My problem is when teams trade their stars while still in contention, or worse, before they even know they are in contention or not in May. I think my solution is to have 30 team control and to make trades manual until end of May/first of June. Then I will make it Auto for the other 29 teams and just have a waiting period so I can make sure the trades are not insane. It's sad that I wish they would go back to '09, or at least come up to Madden's level on trade logic and FA signings.

It's gotten so bad, I'm thinking about trading in '10 and going back to '09.

you can stop star players from being traded who are in the final year of their contract if you choose to, by releasing them from their team, then re-signing them to a multi-year contract.

Do this prior to starting up franchise, save this roster, and then start up your franchise with your saved roster.

The trade AI is a disgrace. I traded Javier Vázquez for Zack Grenike in spring training. OOTP needs to be released!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do this prior to starting up franchise, save this roster, and then start up your franchise with your saved roster.

I didn't know that you could negotiate contracts before starting up your franchise. I will have to give that a try. It seems that there are dozens of work arounds necessary to play franchise mode this year. For some, this is not that big of a deal. For others, well I can't blame them for wanting the product they purchased to work as advertised. Me, well I would be happy if I could have 09 with the fielding upgrades of 10. I know some people had issues with 09, but I thought it was near perfect. Fix the fielding and it would have been as close to perfect as any game I have ever played.

So basically I have to decide before I start my franchise, which players I want to see traded and which players I want to stay on their teams for a few years? I guess I would pick players like Mauer, Pujols, Jeter to name a few, and then leave most of the rest of them up for grabs. Not a terrible work around. I just wish trades were more like 09. I like not knowing if certain stars will get traded or not. If I use the workaround, I know they won't, but if I don't use the workaround, I know that they will. Oh well. Such is life. I highly doubt I will make it through a whole season this year. I just don't have the enthusiasm to do so like I did last year.

You wana talk about an error in logic, while in my Franchise I claimed Albert Pujols, and Ben Sheets off of waivers.

I just tried to do this and can't figure out wher to do it. I go into rosters before I start my franchise right/ When I do that it won't let me release anyone. It will only let me promote/demote ect.. What am I missing?

can you swap somebody with a free agent and swap them back? i'm not sure. i haven't tried this yet.

You probably didnt have patch 2 then, after patch 2 I havent been able to claim a top player, always get pulled back.

This must be a pre-patch franchise, no? Post 2nd patch, I have not been able to claim anyone off waivers (big names anyway). Every test run I do, I try to claim every star player on August 1st, to no avail. The developers posted this as one of the patch fixes, and it seems to work fine.

When I see Brandon Webb get dealt for albert pujols I just shake my head, then I see lance berkman traded for prospects and I smile


trade logic is so love-hate in this game, I'm considering controlling all 30 teams, only have 1 set to my profile and the rest cpu, is there a down side to controlling all 30 teams?

can you swap somebody with a free agent and swap them back? i'm not sure. i haven't tried this yet.

Yes. I did this w/ Joe Mauer and he got a new 7 year deal. You may have to do it a few times until you get a contract you like, but it does work.

I simmed a season last night with the extended trades on and the ability to block any really insane deals, and really there were only a few, and those were only bizarre because of the name factor. A lot of the trades made a lot of sense, the one that was a little out there, but I allowed was:

Twins Get:

Prince Fielder

Brewers Get:
Liriano, and two other really solid prospects

This was a bit strange as the Twins already had plenty of power in the middle of the lineup, but this gave them a nice boost and Prince had a really good year and they ended up winning it all.

I'm going to only run through probably 2 seasons/offseasons in my franchise, so I think I'm going to artifically lower budgets to fit better at the end of the year but signing scrubs to max contracts. I'm also going to sign potential free agents like Mauer, Beckett, etc to long term deals prior to starting the franchise.

Thinking over it I think I started that franchise prior to the patch so that's probably what it is.
