I am playing with All-Star difficulty in hitting. I refuse to go down to Veteran. What is the key to hitting......Working counts? I just can't figure it out!!!

What team are you using (if just one specific one)? Or just overall?

Patience, timing, and working the count. Try and resist that urge to swing at everything close and point the left stick up or down based on where you think the pitch will be in the zone.

Oh, and practice, practice, practice. It's an old cliche but eventually you will get better and start loving this game.

I played HOF on 09 and Legend this year, and my key is to learn the timing on fastballs. Do this in the cages in practice mode. Practice timing on 95mph and 90mph, there's a big difference. Congrats on refusing to play at a lower level, it pays off with more realistic gameplay that not many choose to endure, because you will slump, but YOU will have to adjust to get out of it, NOT the game.

I'm not knocking lower level gameplay modes, but it's for people who enjoy the realistic atmosphere of a baseball game. HOF/Legend (with default or higher pitch speed) is for people who look for more realistic plate approaches.


This means:
1) Learning to read the pitch from the release point. Don't wait for it to get to you.

2) Working the count. 60% of the time I wait for a called strike before I swing away. The other 40% is when I'm facing a guy with a fastball that is low 90's or high 80's: At that point I will sit on a location (usually high) and go for the deep ball.

3) Don't chase. If, after 400 pitches in the cages, you realize you can crush a 90mph fastball when its inside, then wait for that pitch.

4) If the pitcher (ai will do this) catches on to what pitch you're sitting on, it will often avoid it. I find myself sitting on fastballs high in the zone until I stop getting them. I hit a lot of HR's sitting on low changeups by switching up what you are looking for

5) I play RTTS mostly, but if you are playing as all 9 batters, YOU HAVE TO WORK THE PITCH COUNT. I think it's crazy (whether you win or lose) to let the pitcher throw 8 innings on anything close to 90 pitches or below. It's a waste of a realistic game.
