Re: Gave Up on Manual/Assisted Fielding...and LOVING IT!

I love auto fielding, last year I saw too many throwing errors, this year I haven't. I just love the fielding animations though and since I've gone to meter pitching I need to concentrate on making good pitches more than anything anyway.

The only thing I wish I could do is get the fielding marker off the screen. I've taken all the fielding icons off but when a ball is hit to one of my infielders they still have that blue circle around them.

Yeah, not sure how that made it through testing...

Today I was thinking: I have everything turned off as far as markers go, except I have the throwing meter on...what if I turn that off too? Will the markers finally go away? Has anyone tried this? I can't try until much later tonight.

That's because you have manual throwing on probably, and the blue circle shows up since that's where the throwing meter is viewed.

          I've turned everything off.

Everything is on auto. Throwing meter is off, auto throwing is on auto.

It still shows up, I don't see anyway to turn it off.

Yes it eliminates some of the human errors but on the flipside the fielders seem (to me anyway) to be able run faster when under my control and take better routes to balls.

There are pitfalls either way but i think ill go back to assisted, i can live or die by my own shortfalls that way, die mainly lol.
I would like to have 'assist' be cpu control until we take over, no time limit.
            This would solve the:

'once a ball is hit, you have to determine who is selected (which fielder) and react to that, which can be very difficult depending on where and how hard the ball is hit.'

Re: Gave Up on Manual/Assisted Fielding...and LOVING IT!

so i played a couple of games and here are my pros and cons :
              pros:
-animation are much better (love it)
-infield players can make better diving plays (ball under the glove doesn´t happen so often anymore)
-you have the feeling that player ratings have an effect now
-rob homeruns and foulballs are more exciting

              cons:
-not much but some stupid things (outfielders) happen very rarely but when they happen a single play is going to be a tripple or an inside the park homerun

but i will keep auto fielding it´s so

I'm an auto-fielding fan. I could never get the hang of any fielding schemes in any baseball games.

I was skeptical of this. I have always been a manual or assisted MLB gamer. But I tried it last night and LOVE IT. I'm glad I stumbled upon this thread. Thanks OP for the thread.

For me, I am not sure there is anything more rewarding in a baseball game than when you make the manual dive or HR rob. For that alone it's worth taking a few minutes to learn the controls. I'm not a great gamer or anything and it's honestly not hard to field manually. In fact, it's nearly intuitive outside of learning what button dives and robs a HR.

I'm about ready to try auto fielding with manual throws...

Shots down the line are the thing that's killing assisted fielding for me. It's pretty much impossible to make a diving play on a shot down the line: you basically have a millisecond to react, the camera tends to swing around a bit making it disorienting, and lining up and timing the dive right I just don't think is humanly possible on these particular plays.

The thing is... The CPU will make these plays against me, and every time I let one by down the line I think to myself how the CPU would have made that play... It's just uneven.
                      All ties severed...

Shift your 3rd basman left for every batter on the opposing team. You can do it real quickly once you get used to it.

That right there was the reason I switched over; plus balls rolling right under gloves when the fielder is in position to make the play. I lost so many games on garbage animations like that. So, I'm happy I made the switch.

I am not sure how auto fielding will help, as I see this happen to the CPU as well. It is always charged as an error though so perhaps we are talking about two different things. The CPU makes some amazing plays at SS and 3B that I feel are beyond realistic. I am just saying that for those that feel auto fielding is more realistic. I would feel kind of like I am cheating if my mediocre players were making diving stops at third that would make a young Eric Chavez look like a bad news bear. I feel like ratings go right out the window with auto fielding, where I feel that the ratings hold much truer with manual. I can see a huge difference when I have my backup playing than with my starters. I have seen the CPU put in players with no experience at positions like SS or Catcher with little to no ramification. Rajai Davis leading the league in stolen bases got thrown out by Felix Pie at catcher.
