Actually a major league hitter will tell you he's more successful if he takes a level swing. When he starts becoming pull happy and uppercutting everything he gets himself in trouble.

It's in the game and you're welcome to use it, I'm not saying you shouldn't if you want to but you really don't need it. You can hit just fine without using it.

I use to use the L-stick but recently i just started using just timing w/ CHdaughter's sliders. I can see the ball better just using timing, getting pitchers deeper into counts and running up there pitch count.

It's just natural to me to move the left stick while I'm swinging. I've never tried hitting without it, but I don't get how you can hit the ball hard unless it's right in the middle of the plate. My team is leading the league in hitting, so it works for me.

I try to use it, but if I do I use it as a guess pitch. I move it to a spot I assume the pitch will go. I am just not fast enough to move it after the pitch is thrown. I can barely get around on fastballs, let alone chase one to a spot and still swing. For curve balls though I love it. I have moved it below the zone expecting a curve, especially with a runner on first and less than two outs. You can really crush it even when it is out of the zone. It has also helped me a little from striking out on curve balls.

Yeah, but taking a level swing doesn't mean swinging down the middle every time. Some batters always take level swings but they still need to locate the pitch. You have to pull the bat in on an inside pitch to hit it well, it doesn't mean you're pull happy. Some hitters just have a natural uppercut to their swing. Slap hitters are the opposite, they swing down on the ball to hit low liners or grounders. The right stick is for this, not the left stick. You want you're hitter to uppercut a bit, press up to influence a fly ball. If you don't use the left stick, you won't have a level swing on high pitches, you'll constantly be hitting fly balls on high pitches since you're bat location is below the pitch. So, if you want you're hitters to swing a level bat, then you'll want to use the left stick to properly locate the pitch to square it up. You'll at least want to move the left stick up or down to get the proper vertical location of the pitch so you are not always hitting fly balls on high pitches and pounding low pitches into the ground. That would be necessary if you want you're batters to have level swings.

I understand people get realistic results when not using the left stick. But why do you want hitting gameplay to be the same as a NES or SNES game like RBI Baseball? In those games, timing was the only thing that mattered because of the top down view. I don't want to be hitting the same way as those games.

I use the L stick when hitting. Why? Purely for contact reasons. I feel that if I swing middle in and the pitch was low in then I usually see me hitting a chopper or grounder. Just like it should be. I have seen the fluke where I swing down middle, pitch was more middle in and for some reason I got incredible contact. It also feels more "rewarding" to me using the L stick. IE... men on base, down some runs, power hitter at the plate, count in your favor, your thinking down and in fastball, pitcher throws down and in fastball, you time it perfectly.... BINGO!! HR!! Love looking at my contact as the next batter comes up and it shows my hitting location with the hitting cursor smack dab on the ball!! REWARDING!!

I use it, but i need classic 1/4.
For example, if i guess the pitch down,i move the l- stick up because there is about an 80% chance that the ball will fall in the pci if it is a strike. I do not have the reaction time to move the l stick while the pitch is in progress.

Then use it the L Stick, I personally could care less. You can hit without it so I don't see the point.

Don't you have your Contact and Timing to +10 and play on Veteran?

That's probably why, because you have massive plate coverage with those sliders and have a larger margin of error.

Turn down Contact and play on a higher difficulty and you will see that you either have to wait for a meatball or use the L stick to get consistent good hits.

"I could care less" means you do care, "I couldn't care less" means you don't care.

Most people here have played the High Heat series at some point. If you were able to hit on HH's normal difficulty setting, you can hit in The Show at HoF difficulty easy. Accurate stick placement in HH was more important than in The Show.

                        Thanks for the English lesson.

And I've had the show for 3 years, used a lot of different slider sets. I never had to use it, NEVER.

This is actually the first year I've played on veteran. I have contact at 3 but timing and power are maxed out. I get realistic results.

I'm not arguing that you have to use the left stick for realistic results. However, you do need to use the left stick for a realistic batting experience. Batting requires locating the pitch (left stick) and timing the pitch (pressing X or square). With only timing the pitch, hitting doesn't feel realistic. Like somebody said, it's so rewarding to look at the swing analysis after a HR or key hit and see that you were right on the pitch.

we're not questioning your skill or results. If you use the L stick you will probably find Veteran is too easy as you start locking into pitches. It's also more satisfying to nail a low and inside curveball by golfing it.

Here we go with this realistic experience nonsense again.

Look, people can play however they want and still have a realistic experience. Your way is not the only way to play. If I don't want to play with it I don't have to, if you want to play with it then that is fine but one way is not better than the other.

I also play from pitchers cam so I would think it would be almost impossible to use the L Stick from that view.
