Re: Who else thinks that booing the home team pitcher after Ks kills the atmosphere?

A lot of the fans' reactions to balls and strikes is way overdone in general. The crowd does a lot right in this game, but it seems there's been an oversight with respect to how often baseball fans don't react to things. This game, they pretty much react to everything.

Real crowds don't go all "AWWW!!!! .... AWWW!! BOOOOO!!!" after the road team draws a walk or gets a single for instance like they do in this game.

But whatever. Still one of the better crowds out there.

I noticed this last night playing as the Mets at home against Arizona. Mike Pelfrey was pitching and I threw a strike on the outside corner and there were some very noticeable boos.

I just played a game in my cards season and I did not hear any boos when I struck the guy out. But I also have music that plays on a K.

Didn't somebody figure out this was some glitch caused by variable strike zones? I thought I read that.
Are you guys all playing with variable strike zones on? Because maybe the crowd is reacting to the pitches as if they would have been balls.

I don't know, the crowd has always seemed to respond appropriately for me. then again, I have sounds associated with strikeouts, but even called strikes are reacted to correctly. I also use variable strike zones as well...

I struck Teagarden out in the third at-bat of this inning:

It's very odd to hear the home crowd always boo when the visiting team brings in a reliever.

Additionally, the crowd is slow to react after the home team gets a hit. There's a two or three second delay that takes a little of the atmosphere away.

And for the love of g-d, when will they do away with the foul ball sound that sounds like it's hitting against a metal screen? That's something you hear in little league, not MLB. Don't most ball parks have netting?

                Agreed, it seems backwards.

But the Giants and Cubs both have a good traveling fanbase, so I can see why that chant would arrise. Were they high-attendance game? Were there a good amount of visiting fans in the crowd?

It doesn't make any sense that the crowd would boo their own pitcher after throwing a K, even if they initially thought or expected the pitch to be a ball. They'd probably be surprised, but they'd never boo. Don't you so, too? Those paradoxical boos are caused by a bug, plain and simple. Simply because they don't make any sense, no matter how you look at it.

I see it in almost every single game that I play. I cant imagine how anyone else has never seen it happen. That said, I certainly wouldnt say that it ruins the game. I agree with other posters that it may simply be a big delay in crowd reaction to something else.

The extreme boos can be a bit much. Its like every park is Philly sometimes.
Anyone who claims to be a fan of two teams in the same pro sport is actually a fan of none.

Umm yeah, I do think so too, that's why I was saying people thinks it's a glitch.

My second statement was trying to explain that because of the variable strike zone, the pitches are called strikes when they would be balls in the normal strike zone. The glitch is that crowd reacts as if a ball was called, booing instead of cheering.

Are we on the same page?

Closing this up now, as it seems to be that what the OP is seeing is a possible Bug.

OP, please post this in the Bugs thread.

                            Thanks
