Re: A nice little adjustment: hitting camera offset to the inside...
Hey just bought a ps3 a couple days ago along with the show. I have played baseball my whole life and through college right now, but I found a view that I really really like. It might be extreme for some but it has become natural for me. My camera isn't working on my phone so I wish I could take a pic but I'll try to describe it best I can.
The camera is pretty much right beside the batter. I've moved the left stick toward the batter and tilted the R stick right a little bit as well, enough where the left side of the strike zone (right handed batter) cuts the pitcher in half. From there I tilt up with the R stick where the top of the strike zone is now at the pitcher's knees. Now I zoom in until you cannot see the plate. Like I said this may sound extreme but if you try it out you will see how it is very realistic because balls outside now appear like you can't reach them, so you won't swing, same for low balls, however you will have to get used to inside pitches because I was used to that being down the middle. Now I NEVER chase wild pitches, except for nasty curve balls in the dirt a few times because I'm not focused.
I think this is the most realistic view I have ever seen in a baseball game. Although this is just ME. Also, to expand a little more, I have a 48" HDTV which the top is about at my shoulders (I'm 5'10") When I stand where the batter is my shoulders are the same height as the batter (most of their head is out of view) So if I stood let's say 2 feet from the TV and on the left side of my TV (Right handed batter) I would be looking at the pitcher EXACTLY how I see a pitcher in a real baseball game, in other words this was PERFECT for me. Although I don't mean to brag at all as this is just the way my TV happens to be set up but I really wanted to share this idea with you guys.
I went from hitting .167 with my RTS to .270 in one night. Also had a 10 hit rally in season mode.
One more thing, I would like to say I don't have to stand up right in front of my TV the whole time to play lol, I was just making a point. However, if I had the PS MOVE it would be AWESOME!
Hope I didn't bore you guys with this long post, and if any of you want a pic I'll be happy to try and take one tomorrow, Thanks!
EDIT: Also one more thing, unfortunately this view does NOT work with A-Rod as you can not see the ball leave the pitchers hand because of his elbow.Last edited by sparkdawg777; 05-25-2011, 12:21 AM.Comment

Re: A nice little adjustment: hitting camera offset to the inside...
I get these questions asked a lot, and I don't really know how to answer it, other than say that you just have to keep tweaking until you find that roundabout view yourself. I can't give exact clicks with the sticks or anything, SCEA didn't provide numeric values along with our tweaks made to the cameras.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: A nice little adjustment: hitting camera offset to the inside...
I got around to trying this out and it was bittersweet. First, I hit the ball hard and I drew three walks (more if I didn't swing at crap.) Which brings me to my many strikeouts...nine in all, six to righties and one for my pitcher.
It's only one game so I'm not alarmed. Definitely enjoy this view and will continue to work on lowering my K's. I'm still finding it next to impossible to pick up that low pitch though, any tips?Comment

Re: A nice little adjustment: hitting camera offset to the inside...
More info... Which I have put into the first post of this thread...
-The four presets from behind the plate each change how close the pitcher is to you. The "Catcher" preset has the pitcher the closest. "High" pushes the pitcher into the background more. "Offset" pushes the pitcher even further into the background, and "Wide" pushes the pitcher furthest away of all the four views. When a pitcher is further away it makes it a little easier to get a read on the ball.
-It's handy to keep two slightly different views saved, because every now and then you'll face a pitcher whose arm angle will throw you off, or who becomes obscured by a hitter's stance.
Also... Inspired by RyanLeaf16's camera from a few posts before this one, I came up with another view... More zoomed back and raised up... Using the "Wide" preset to start with:

1. You look down on the pitch even more than when zoomed in.
2. You can see more of the batter compared to the zoomed in view, which I really like because you can see a guy's stance.
3. I use the medium field camera while batting, and the transition after a hit is a lot more natural and smooth compared to a zoomed in view.
4. And finally, bunting is a lot easier... The hitter doesn't block the view:

Re: A nice little adjustment: hitting camera offset to the inside...
This is brilliant. One of my best buddies and I always discuss the hitting views for this game - and we've both come to the conclusion that we feel it's easier to hit a baseball IRL than it is in the Show. This minor tweak gives the player the same view as the batter which is a much more realistic view for those of us who still play baseball outside of the virtual realm.
I was very happy with my camera - custom off-set - and thought I'd give this a read so I could judge all the hitters looking for a quick fix. The only person I'm judging now is myself for being so narrow-minded!
I went home last night and made my own custom view (I'll post a picture tomorrow) and I'm hitting the ball much better. My average and slugging are definitely higher than before, but the thing I'm noticing as the biggest improvement is that I'm pulling more pitches and crushing mistake pitches. I still have a hard time judging off-speed pitches, but my last 3 games have been against Lincecum, Hamels and Halladay, so I'll chalk it up to good pitching.
Nice tip. I recommend to the OP to add the custom camera to the did you know thread.Comment

Spit Bubble, I'm trying your hitting view. It's cool, but how in the world can you detect low balls? I can hit the curves and changes better now, but that low ball may kick my tail... Just getting more in depth if possible. Thanks for all that you guys are doing.NCAA Basketball- Duke

Re: A nice little adjustment: hitting camera offset to the inside...
Make sure you're using the "Wide" preset to start out with.
If you're still having trouble zoom in a bit, lower the camera a little with the L-stick, and then tilt it up slightly with the R-stick. You'll lose some that angle looking down on the ball, but should have a better view of pitches down low in the zone. All ties severed...Comment

Not exactly what Spit has but I give him credit for motivating me to customize my batting camera. My view is primarily "catcher cam" but zoomed in. Here is a pic:
