Apparently they have a bit to go before they agree to anything for this year. I almost hope it does not get implemented this year in real life, and then it won't matter b/c they can just put it in next year when it happens.

I'll be highly disappointed if this in not placed in the game (If it's actually announced). I love the idea of the extra wild card game. The wild card will actually come in with a true disadvantage versus the division winners, by using their number 1 pitcher. It's fair.

This. Seems like a no brainer to just include the option when setting up your franchise

Most likely it is an issue with MLB and the way they protect their image.

Have any of you calling this a "no brainer" ever stopped to think about how this "small change" could completely change the coding and logic of franchise mode?

"Highly disappointed"? "No reason this can't be in"? A "no brainer"? All comments from people who have no clue what this change actually entails involving a decision that isn't even 100% decided.

            It never ends

Yeah I will be disappointed but it doesn't break the game. It is just a case of oh well, it will be in next year.

This coupled with the fact that the whole concept is a "patch" itself to the real MLB. They will be working out further details throughout the season. And they are still on the fence about implementation, going into March.

I personally think it would make more sense to wait until next year, and do both the realignment and new playoff format in the same season. That is really the most fair for all teams since the leagues will have equal teams.

You can't really blame SCEA either way tho... but I'm sure if they had put the new format in, and it didn't get implemented by MLB, they'd be getting nicked for wasting dev time like they did with the Vita.

Love the new format. Will make it harder for a wild-card team to advance, adding importance to winning your division.

As far as it being in the game: I'd love for them to be able to patch it in somehow, but completely understand if they can't.

Just to play devils advocate here, it's not guaranteed that a team will use their #1 pitcher in a 1 game playoff. A lot depends on how soon the one game playoff is after the regular season and how the wild cards team made it in.

Maybe they had to use their best pitcher on the last game or the second last game just to make the playoffs.

I agree overall its a good idea, but the way MLB is pulling this in the 11th hour is just ridiculous.

I've defended the guy on some issues in the past, but this whole thing reaks of Seligs ineptitude at this point.

There should have been an official announcement one way or the other months ago.

It's a silly point that makes no sense. If it's not an option, it's not an option. But there's tons of game modes and options in video games that aren't replicated in real life. That's hardly what prevented them from putting the option in.

But whatever. Enjoy your train of thought.
OK but we are talking about an extra playoff spot that does not exist in real life so why would it be in MLB 12? You can say I "make no sense" and that I can "Enjoy my train of thought." That's cool but I don't see where I am wrong here.

With that said I am just going to say you are right and leave it at that.

Great idea, should have already been in place long ago (IMO). Some really deserving teams who place 2nd in the Wild Card standings will now have a chance to show their stuff, instead of going home early! This will make for some very interesting scenarios, and match-ups.

i hope they just wait until next year to put it in. wouldn't want a patch to ruin any of the gameplay or franchise. i can't wait to play this game.

I don't think SCEA would release a patch with the new playoff system if it screwed up other parts of the game. SCEA doesn't roll that way. I believe they will find a way to do it. If not oh well, but I do hope that it gets done. You can't blame SCEA for this at all though. They shouldn't have to be programming a different playoff system just in case something is changed by the MLB.
